From Emmanuel Macron To Sam Altman, Here Are The Global Elite Heading To Davos 2024

The global elite are set to gather in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024. The event, titled “Rebuilding Trust,” is expected to see a diverse range of speakers and pressing global issues on the agenda, from geopolitical tensions to technological change.

What Happened: The WEF 2024, running from Jan. 14-19, will feature addresses by prominent political figures, including China’s Deputy Leader Li Qiang and French President Emmanuel Macron, reported CNBC on Thursday. Macron is the sole G7 leader attending amid a growing reluctance of politicians to participate in light of domestic challenges.

Despite this, other leaders and finance ministers from countries such as Spain, Belgium, Colombia, Iraq, Lebanon, Ireland, Kenya, Nigeria, Thailand, and Singapore are expected to attend. While President Joe Biden has not attended the Davos summit since he took office this year, U.S. representatives include Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry.

Newly elected Argentinian President Javier Milei is also slated to address the forum, bringing his economic policies under international scrutiny. The business world will be represented by figures like Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and leaders from global economic bodies and civil society groups.

Why It Matters: The WEF is an influential platform for global leaders and experts to address critical issues and potential solutions. The 2023 annual meeting focused on post-pandemic fragmentation and multipolarity, with attendees including Idris Elba, Ursula von der Leyen, and Olena Zelenska. The 2024 event is expected to continue this trend, providing a crucial forum for dialogues on pressing global challenges.
