Apple Inc.'s AAPL preparations for the Vision Pro launch are in full swing. The latest in this line is the addition of a new face-scanning feature in the Apple Store app, allowing the company to determine the perfect Apple Vision Pro size for buyers.
What Happened: The face scanning feature will allow Apple to offer the right size of its mixed reality headset, reported MacRumors. This is important since the Apple Vision Pro comes with a Light Seal and a headband; the right size is necessary for it to function properly.
This feature was spotted in the code of the App Store app, and it is expected to be rolled out closer to the launch.
Apple is calling the Vision Pro a "spatial computing" device instead of a mixed-reality headset. It has also carved out a list of very specific terminology and phrasing for app developers working on Vision Pro apps, games, and other content in the run-up to Vision Pro's launch.
"The era of spatial computing has arrived," said Cook. "Apple Vision Pro is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created. Its revolutionary and magical user interface will redefine how we connect, create, and explore."
Gaming And Entertainment Library At Launch
While making the announcement, Apple also listed some specific spatial games and movies that users will be able to access on the Vision Pro launch day.
This includes titles like NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition and Sonic Dream Team. The company says Vision Pro users will also be able to access over 250 games on Apple Arcade.
Beyond games, Apple is also making full use of the life-like experience that Vision Pro will provide by optimizing FaceTime for the "spatial" environment. Moreover, any FaceTime call user using the Vision Pro will be shown as a "persona" to other users.
Apple describes "persona" as an "authentic spatial representation" of a user, but it needs to be created beforehand. The process will take a few minutes, according to the company, and it will work with third-party apps like Zoom Video Communications Inc. ZM, Microsoft Corp.'s MSFT Teams, and more.
The availability of spatial games, movies, and FaceTime at launch should offer enough of a library even for early buyers to make better use of Vision Pro.
Why It Matters: Apple is trying to make sure the Vision Pro launch is as perfect as possible. The company will work with reviewers to make sure they know the ins and outs of Vision Pro properly before they post their opinions.
A previous report also stated that Apple is conducting employee training sessions specifically for Vision Pro and also sending necessary equipment to stores to make sure the customer experience is smooth.
