YouTuber Dennis Wang embarked on a cross-country road trip with the highly-anticipated Cybertruck, providing a firsthand account of the vehicle’s performance and flaws.
What Happened: Business Insider reported on Sunday that Wang and a friend took the newly released Foundation Series Cybertruck on a 27-hour road trip from Austin, Texas, to Joshua Tree National Park in California. They faced charging difficulties and a Tesla infotainment system glitch along the way.
Wang, who runs the YouTube channel DennisCW, is a Tesla enthusiast. He noted that the trip offered insights into the Cybertruck’s capabilities despite the challenges. The truck’s range was significantly impacted by the weather in Texas and high driving speeds.
Wang’s experience echoes a recent unofficial test by “Out of Spec Reviews,” which revealed that the Cybertruck’s actual highway range was just 254 miles, approximately 80% of its estimated range.

Despite these issues, Wang praised the Cybertruck’s comfort and spacious interior, expressing excitement for the future of Tesla’s vehicles.
Why It Matters: The Cybertruck’s first long-haul trip has highlighted real-world challenges, including range limitations, charging difficulties, and infotainment system glitches. These issues could impact the vehicle’s market reception and Tesla’s overall electric vehicle reputation.
These revelations come on the heels of Elon Musk’s announcement about improvements to the Cybertruck, which aim to reduce its turning radius further. Successfully resolving these issues could strengthen Cybertruck’s position in the competitive electric truck market.
