Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday expressed optimism that robots will build other robots one day.
What Happened: Terming it ‘inevitable,’ the CEO said that robots will build robots one day whether Tesla does it or not.
Tesla is building and improving its own bi-pedal, humanoid robot called the Optimus. The generation 2 version of the Optimus was unveiled in a video on X in December with better control of its hands enabling it to handle delicate objects like eggs.
However, as per the CEO, it still cannot find a missing sock.
“Unfortunately, such miracles as finding a missing sock are impossible,” Musk wrote in another post.
Why It Matters: The new comments on Optimus follow Musk posting a video of the Optimus folding a shirt on Monday. Though not autonomous at the moment, the robot will be able to do the deed autonomously in the future even in an arbitrary environment without a table or a box with one shirt, the CEO said.
Tesla announced the humanoid bot two years ago, initially aimed at performing unsafe, repetitive, or boring tasks. During Tesla’s second-quarter earnings call in July, Musk said that the bots will be able to do something useful in Tesla factories starting 2024.
