Goodbye Curves: First Google Pixel 9 Leak Reveals An iPhone-Inspired Frame Design

The first Google Pixel 9 leak is here, giving us an early look into what the next-generation flagship from the Alphabet Inc.-owned GOOG GOOGL company will look like.

What Happened: Known tipster On Leaks has released the first set of high-resolution renders of the Google Pixel 9 series, which is expected to launch later this year.

The leaked renders, courtesy of the blog My Smart Price, reveal some notable design changes. The most significant change is the camera module, which no longer merges with the phone’s frame.

Google is also following in the footsteps of Apple Inc. AAPL and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. SSNLF – the Pixel 9 is shown with a flat display instead of a curved one like we have seen on the Pixel 8 series.

Going by the leak, it also looks like Google is copying the iPhone’s flat design philosophy–the phone’s frame is now thicker and flat. While the curved edges made the Pixel 8 series easy to hold, the flat edges might dig into the palms while using.

The antenna marks and the metal frame design are also reminiscent of those on the iPhone 15 series.

But Google is not completely abandoning its design philosophy. The camera bar is recognizably present, and the bump is significant enough, too, just like on the Pixel 8 series.

The mmWave antenna remains on the top for better connectivity, while the volume rocker and power buttons are on the right.

Google Pixel 9: What We Know So Far

The Pixel 9 series is expected to be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset, which is expected to offer a small performance bump over the Tensor G3.

Besides this, it is also likely that Google will debut the Android 15 operating system on the Pixel 9 series. While not much is known about Android 15 just yet, rumors suggest we could get a new Gemini-powered assistant called Pixie, which is said to be capable of being used offline as well.

Google could maintain the existing release schedule, which slots the Pixel 9 launch date for October.
