Undercover Israeli agents, some disguised as medical staff, raided a hospital in the West Bank and shot dead three men, reportedly Palestinians. The Israeli army claims the deceased were Hamas militants planning a terror attack.
What Happened: CBS News reported on Tuesday that the raid took place at the Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin, a major health facility serving the city and its adjacent Palestinian refugee camp. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said the operation targeted a “Hamas terrorist cell” planning an imminent attack.
The Palestinian Health Ministry in the West Bank emphasized that healthcare facilities are granted special protection under international law. The ministry called on the United Nations General Assembly, international institutions, and human rights organizations to halt the “daily string of crimes” committed by Israel against their people and health centers.
Security camera footage obtained by international news agencies appears to show multiple armed individuals, disguised in medical uniforms or civilian clothes, moving through the hospital wards with guns drawn. The hospital’s director, Naji Nazzal, confirmed that the Israeli forces entered the facility undercover and assassinated the men using silenced weapons.
Why It Matters: The raid comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hamas. A recent report revealed that UN Agency Workers were involved in the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, further complicating the conflict.
The U.S. is also considering slowing down weapon deliveries to Israel as a means of pressuring the Israeli government to ease its military operations in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, the ICJ has ordered Israel to take comprehensive measures to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza, marking a significant shift in the conflict.
