Former president Donald Trump has revealed a list of potential running mates for the 2024 presidential election, including South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.
What Happened: During a Fox News town hall on Tuesday, Trump mentioned at least six names on his shortlist for the vice presidential position, which also included biotech entrepreneur and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R- S.D.), reported Politico. Trump described all of them as “good” and “solid” choices.
Despite his previous public feuds with DeSantis, Trump has included him on the list. DeSantis, who withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, has since endorsed Trump. The former president has also ceased his attacks on the governor.

Trump particularly praised Scott, who had withdrawn from the Republican primary and later endorsed Trump. Scott has been actively campaigning for Trump in South Carolina ahead of the state’s Feb. 24 primary.
Why It Matters: This announcement comes after Trump’s team reportedly reached out to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for a potential vice-presidential role. Trump’s consideration of a diverse group of candidates suggests that he is keeping his options open for the upcoming election.
Earlier in February, Trump had also hinted at possibly selecting Sen. Scott or Governor Noem as his running mate. This announcement further fuels speculation about Trump’s potential vice presidential pick and its impact on the 2024 election.
Trump’s decision will be closely watched by the Republican party, especially after he rejected the idea of former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley being his vice president pick. This revelation came as Haley trailed behind Trump in the Republican nomination race, particularly in New Hampshire, which held its primary on Tuesday.
