Meta Platforms Inc.'s META social media services Facebook, Instagram and Threads have all been hit by a widespread outage on Tuesday morning.
What Happened: Meta's trio of social media platforms are not working for many users, with website monitoring services reporting a huge spike in error reports as of 11 a.m. ET.
Benzinga attempted to verify the status of these social media platforms. Although one of the Facebook accounts appeared to be logged out, presenting an “incorrect” password error on the login screen, the Instagram and Threads apps, along with their websites, have not yet logged us out.
Internet observatory NetBlocks reports that the Meta outage has been observed in multiple countries and that it is not related to any country-level filtering or censorship.
DownDetector, a website monitoring service, shows increased incidents of user reports of errors for all three services.
Hashtags for all three services – Facebook, Instagram and Threads – were trending on X, formerly Twitter. Some users reported they were logged out of Facebook and couldn't get back in.
Benzinga contacted Meta for a comment, but has yet to receive a response from the company.
"We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now," said Meta spokesperson Andy Stone on X.
Elon Musk was quick to throw shade at Meta, quipping that X's servers are still working.
