Investors are eagerly anticipating the initial public offering (IPO) of Reddit, Inc. RDDT, which is set to make its public debut on the New York Stock Exchange this week.

Jonathan Corpina, senior managing partner at Meridian Equity Partners, joined Benzinga's PreMarket Prep on Monday and set the stage for potentially massive interest in Reddit’s public listing. He noted the IPO is reportedly five times oversubscribed.

Corpina sees even more interest coming from retail investors when the stock opens for trading. He told Benzinga he’s expecting a "snowball effect" as Reddit users and retail traders pile into the stock.

"It's the prettiest girl at the dance, everybody wants to ask her to dance," Corpina said.

Reddit has reserved 8% of its IPO shares, or 1.76 million shares, for Reddit "super users" and retail investors who had until March 5 to pre-register to buy shares in the listing. Other retail investors will likely be waiting to buy shares in the open market.

"We are going to see a pop in this stock," Corpina predicted.

Reddit executives and some banks and institutions will have a lock-up period of 180 days before they are able to sell their shares. It’s normal to see an increase in selling pressure once the lock-up period expires, Corpina said.

He believes other companies will be watching Reddit's IPO and early performance closely. If successful, it could lead to more IPOs this year from other companies that have been hesitant to go public in recent years, he said.

"A lot of companies out there have been waiting for a leader to come into play and waiting to see who’s going to make that big first move. This is what we’re going to see coming from Reddit," Corpina said.

Reddit is targeting an IPO price of $31 to $34 per share. Pricing is slated to begin on Wednesday and the stock is expected to begin trading on the NYSE on Thursday under the ticker symbol “RDDT.”
