Elon Musk Slams New York City's $53M Pilot Program For Illegal Immigrants: 'Taxes Citizens And Gives The Money To Illegals'

Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk criticized New York City's newly launched $53 million pilot program to provide prepaid debit cards to illegal immigrants.

What Happened: Musk took to X, formerly Twitter, to express his disapproval of New York’s policy. “New York taxes citizens and gives the money to illegals,” he said.

Earlier, Musk seemed to agree with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who said, "Democrats are giving out gift cards and free money to illegal aliens. Where’s the leadership?"

Musk responded, saying it "Doesn't make sense."

Why It Matters: This isn’t the first time Musk has voiced his concerns over immigration policies.

He previously accused President Joe Biden of encouraging illegal immigration for political gain and warned about the potential consequences of a large influx of undocumented immigrants.

Musk has previously stated that while he is not against immigration, he is against a large number of unvetted people entering the country.

He has also expressed concerns about the potential national security threats posed by uncontrolled immigration.

Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, previously joined the debate, recounting the challenges their family faced during their immigration to the U.S. and the lengthy process they had to go through to gain citizenship.
