Political reporter Teddy Schleifer highlighted President Joe Biden’s unique advantage of having his party’s former presidents rally behind him at a major NYC fundraiser.
What Happened: Schleifer pointed out during CNBC’s “Last Call,” that, unlike former President Donald Trump, Biden has the backing of his party’s ex-presidents at fundraising events.
"Joe Biden has the advantage of having the former presidents of his party want to show up at a fundraiser with him, which is not something that Donald Trump can say," he said.
“In fact, I don’t even think Donald Trump can get his own former vice president to show up at a fundraiser.”
Why It Matters: This comes in the context of a major fundraiser in New York, where Biden joined forces with former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
The fundraiser, aimed at raising $25 million, comes at a time when the 2024 presidential race is heating up. Biden is slightly ahead of Trump in the polls, but voters have mixed views on the state of democracy in the U.S., according to a recent poll.
Trump, on the other hand, is planning to surpass Biden’s fundraising goal with a target of $33 million. The support from former presidents could give Biden an edge in this closely contested race.
