Elon Musk, the influential tech entrepreneur, has voiced his concern over the surge in voters registering without a photo ID in three key swing states: Arizona, Texas and Pennsylvania.
What Happened: On Wednesday, Musk reacted to a post from the account @EndWokeness, which highlighted the skyrocketing number of voters registering without a photo ID in the aforementioned states since the start of 2024.
The post pointed out that Help America Vote Verification (HAVV) allows voters to register using the last four digits of their Social Security Number. The data is publicly available on the Social Security Administration’s website.
“Extremely concerning,” Musk wrote.
Why It Matters: Musk’s comments come amid a politically charged climate. He has previously expressed his reservations about the current political leadership. In March, Musk was uncommitted in the Biden-Trump race for the 2024 presidential election, revealing that he was ‘leaning away’ from a particular candidate.
More recently, Musk responded to comments made by independent presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, criticizing President Joe Biden’s policies. He agreed with Kennedy’s assertion that Biden “doesn’t really know what’s going on.”
In another instance, Musk supported the call for the Supreme Court to overturn the “outrageous” fine imposed on former President Donald Trump in New York.
