Elon Musk Pays Tribute To Peter Higgs, The Nobel Prize-Winning Physicist Who Discovered The 'God Particle'

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk paid his respects to the late Peter Higgs, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist who proposed the existence of the Higgs Boson, also known as the “God Particle.”

What Happened: On Tuesday, Musk paid tribute to Higgs, who died at the age of 94. The tech billionaire replied to a user’s post on X, formerly Twitter, who commended the Nobel Prize winner saying, “A great scientist. Rest in peace.”

Higgs was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2013. He passed away at his home in Edinburgh on Monday, reported The Guardian. His work in 1964 demonstrated how the Higgs Boson binds the universe together by giving particles their mass. This theory was confirmed by physicists at the Large Hadron Collider at Cern in Switzerland in 2012.

A member of the Royal Society and a Companion of Honour, Higgs spent most of his professional life at Edinburgh University. In 2012, the university established the Higgs Centre for Theoretical Physics in his honor.

Despite his groundbreaking work, Higgs was known for his modesty and shyness. He once described his newfound fame as “a bit of a nuisance.” His passing marks the end of an era for the field of particle physics, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
