Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk agreed with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) that the Senate has an "obligation" to put Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on trial over the border security response, despite a failed impeachment attempt in February.
What Happened: Musk, who has been a vocal critic of President Joe Biden's border policies, came out in agreement with Cruz who said Mayorkas should be subject to a trial.
Cruz highlighted the Biden administration's failure to secure the southern border, leading to a humanitarian crisis. "All of that put together explains why Chuck Schumer wants to desperately, desperately, desperately wants to avoid a trial on Alejandro Mayorkas' impeachment," Cruz told FOX Business in an interview.
Musk agreed, saying "Yes."
"Chuck Schumer wants to avoid holding a trial for Alejandro Mayorkas’s impeachment since he is terrified of the American people hearing the facts," Cruz said.
"The Constitution, Senate rules, and precedent are clear: The Senate has an obligation to hold a trial."

Musk also supported former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who warned of "another 9/11 scale tragedy" due to the border crisis, saying it's "only a matter of time."
Why It Matters: The call for Mayorkas’ impeachment is not new. In February, a failed impeachment vote by the House of Representatives was the result of a months-long investigation into Mayorkas.
This was followed by criticism from President Biden, who slammed House Republicans for their "blatant act of unconstitutional partisanship."
Earlier in March, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) accused Biden and Mayorkas of having “blood on their hands” for the murder of an individual by an illegal immigrant.
Amidst this, Musk’s public support for a potential impeachment trial adds a new layer to the ongoing debate around border security and the Biden administration’s handling of the issue.
