President Joe Biden recently took to X, formerly Twitter, to criticize his predecessor, Donald Trump, reminding voters of the ex-president’s infamous bleach injection suggestion during the early Covid fight.
What Happened: On Tuesday, Biden posted on X, “Don't inject bleach. And don't vote for the guy who told you to inject bleach.”
This was in response to a post from Biden-Harris HQ, which marked the fourth anniversary of Trump’s controversial advice to Americans during a national television broadcast.
During a presidential briefing in 2020, Trump entered the White House briefing room and urged his senior health officials to explore the possibility of injecting bleach into the human body as a potential method for combating COVID-19. The comments led to severe backlash and mocking of the former president.
Why It Matters: The post comes at a time when Biden is slowly but steadily building his lead over Trump in the 2024 presidential race, according to recent poll results. A survey conducted by Marist showed that Biden received 51% support, a three-percentage point lead over Trump, who was chosen by 48% of the respondents.
The former president is currently confronting 34 felony charges related to hush-money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in a Manhattan courtroom. These charges could potentially lead to a prison sentence.
Trump is accused of falsifying business records in connection with payments to Daniels. Each of the 34 charges is a Class E felony, the least severe category of felonies in New York, with a maximum prison sentence of four years per count. The trial is overseen by Judge Juan Merchan, who has indicated a serious stance on white-collar crime and may potentially sentence Trump to prison time.
