Former Trump Lawyer Was 'Very Despondent And Saddened' For Not Getting Top Role In Administration, Hush Money Trial Reveals

In a recent development in Donald Trump‘s hush money trial, it was revealed that Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer, was deeply upset for not being offered a top role in the Trump administration following the 2016 election victory.

What Happened: Keith Davidson, Stormy Daniels‘ lawyer who had helped arrange payment to the adult movie star, testified that Cohen was “very despondent and saddened” after Trump’s election victory, Reuters reported on Friday.

Cohen had hoped for a high-ranking position such as attorney general or White House chief of staff.

Davidson recalled Cohen expressing disbelief at not being selected for a role in Washington, despite his many efforts to protect Trump. Cohen’s credibility will be a key factor in the trial, which continues into its 11th day on Friday.

Cohen later pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations and was sentenced to prison for paying $130,000 to Daniels to keep her quiet about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump. Trump denies the encounter and is charged with falsifying business records to hide the reimbursement to Cohen.

The trial has been marked by concerns of potential interference from Trump, who has a large social media following and is currently campaigning for the 2024 presidential election. The judge is considering fining Trump for violating a gag order by calling Cohen a liar.

Why It Matters: The trial has taken a dramatic turn with the testimony of Davidson, who revealed details of a hush-money payment made during the 2016 presidential campaign. This marked the first time the jury saw direct evidence of the payment to Daniels. The 34 felony charges against Trump, who faces up to four years in prison, stem from this payment made by Cohen.

Further, Trump is facing allegations of violating a gag order. He has called the order “unconstitutional” and is planning to appeal it. His potential violation of the order and his subsequent appeal could have significant implications on the trial and his 2024 presidential campaign.
