Qualcomm Inc QCOM boasts that its new chips will allow customers to operate their laptops extensively without concerns about battery life.

San Diego-based Qualcomm is supplying the semiconductors for Microsoft Corp’s MSFT latest Copilot+ PCs, which incorporate advanced AI features.

Both companies highlighted the importance of Qualcomm's hardware in enabling these AI enhancements while maintaining long battery life, reported Bloomberg.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon remarked at the Computex trade show that the collaboration is groundbreaking. He compared it to the significance of Windows 95.

Amon emphasized that Windows laptops powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite systems will boast up to twice the battery life of traditional models and will be over 100 times more power-efficient in running certain AI features.

Qualcomm, along with its industry peers, has been working for more than a decade to reduce the PC sector's reliance on Intel Corp INTC by introducing key components based on Arm Holdings Plc ARM technology, which is predominant in smartphones.

The strategy aims to diversify Qualcomm's revenue sources beyond its dominant position in mobile chips.

Amon is optimistic that the enhanced efficiency and connectivity of Qualcomm's products will help the company gain market share in new areas such as automotive and computing.

Last month, Microsoft unveiled its AI-enhanced Copilot+ computers, which claim superior performance compared to Apple Inc.'s AAPL top MacBook Air.

Microsoft's Surface line, along with products from partners like Lenovo Group Ltd LNVGY, Dell Technologies Inc. DELL, and Asustek Computer Inc ASUUY will feature Qualcomm-powered Copilot+ laptops.

Despite the promising AI-driven innovations, Qualcomm faces the challenge of breaking Intel's longstanding dominance in the PC market.

Qualcomm stock has gained 81% in the last 12 months. Investors can gain exposure to the stock via First Trust Nasdaq Semiconductor ETF FTXL and VanEck Semiconductor ETF SMH.

Price Action: QCOM shares are trading higher by 1.64% at $207.47 in premarket at the last check Monday.
