Hunter Biden Abandons Lawsuit Against Former Trump Lawyer Rudy Giuliani, Court Documents Reveal

In a recent development, Hunter Biden, the son of U.S. President Joe Biden, has consented to abandon a lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani and Robert Costello, as revealed by court documents.

What Happened: Hunter Biden chose to retract his lawsuit against Giuliani, the former personal attorney to ex-President Donald Trump, and Costello, Reuters reported on Friday. In the lawsuit lodged last September, Biden charged the duo with infringing on his digital privacy.

The agreement, lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, stated that Hunter Biden consented to abandon the lawsuit. U.S. District Judge Jessica Clarke is slated to scrutinize the agreement prior to its finalization.

Earlier this week, a jury found Biden guilty of falsifying his illicit drug use to acquire a firearm, marking him as the first offspring of a sitting U.S. president to be convicted of a crime.

Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, filed for bankruptcy last year after being mandated to pay $148 million to two former Georgia election workers whom he erroneously accused of fraud following Trump’s 2020 presidential election defeat.

Why It Matters: The lawsuit against Giuliani and Costello was announced in September when Biden was already facing federal charges related to a weapon he purchased in 2018. In the lawsuit, Hunter Biden had alleged that the former Trump attorney hacked his hard drive and was able to manipulate the data, breaking his "digital privacy.”

Earlier this month, Hunter Biden was convicted on three felony gun charges, a landmark case as it involved the child of a sitting president. The charges could lead to maximum prison sentences of 10 and 5 years, respectively, with each count also carrying a maximum fine of $250,000.
