In a unique twist of events, a Brooklyn-based attorney has turned his interest in buying domain names into a profitable venture. His recent sale of a politically-themed domain name has earned him a cool $15,000.

What Happened: Jeremy Green Eche, a trademark attorney, bought the domain name HarrisWalz.com in 2020 for just $10, Business Insider reported on Thursday. Eche speculated that Kamala Harris might secure the Democratic presidential nomination and purchased several other domains featuring potential running mates’ names. Although Harris did not win the nomination in 2020, Eche held onto the domains, anticipating they might become valuable in the future.

This week, his patience paid off when Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn.) as her running mate for the 2024 elections. Eche sold the HarrisWalz.com domain for a staggering $15,000 to an anonymous buyer, who identified himself as a “domain protector” and a Harris supporter.

Why It Matters: This isn’t Eche’s first successful domain name sale. He previously sold the domain ClintonKaine.com for $15,000 to a person affiliated with the Trump campaign. Eche continues to invest in domain names for potential future candidates, including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who is speculated to run for president in 2028.

Walz, a former high school teacher and football coach, was named as Harris’ vice-presidential pick in early August. Recent polls show Harris leading former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
