Military Expert Calls Russian President Ally's Tesla Cybertruck 'Super Cool,' But 'Useless' Combat Vehicle: 'Where Do You Recharge This Thing On The Battlefield?'

A Tesla Cybertruck, modified with a machine gun and shown off by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, has been deemed unfit for warfare by a military expert.

What Happened: Kadyrov, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, shared a video of himself driving the altered Cybertruck. Despite its modern allure, Mark Cancian, a senior advisor at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, expressed doubts about the vehicle’s practicality in combat, Business Insider reported on Thursday.

“Where do you recharge this thing on the battlefield? There are no Tesla outlets on the front lines in the Donbas,” Cancian remarked.

While Kadyrov claimed the “Cyberbeast” was a gift from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Musk refuted this assertion. Kadyrov also expressed his desire to use the vehicle in combat, a statement regional experts have dismissed as mere posturing.

Cancian highlighted the logistical issues posed by the electric vehicle’s need for electricity and rechargeable batteries in war zones.

“Maybe you could bring your own generator and hook it up to some custom-design Tesla outlet, but now you’re running a generator to produce electricity to power your electric vehicle,” he elaborated.

Cancian concluded that while the Cybertruck could be useful in rare circumstances, most vehicles of its size are already fairly quiet, and the long-range gun attached to the Cybertruck negates the stealth benefits the vehicle provides. “That is super cool and totally useless,” Cancian stated.

Why It Matters: The Chechen leader’s access to the vehicle, which is limited to U.S. production, remains unexplained.

Two days later, Putin and Kadyrov inspected Chechen troops preparing for a confrontation with Ukraine. This visit coincided with Russia’s efforts to repel Ukrainian forces from its Kursk region.

The tension between Russia and Ukraine has been escalating with Putin accusing Ukraine of launching a major attack on Russian territory.
