Nick Pickles, the head of global affairs at X, formerly Twitter, has announced his departure from the company after a decade of service.

What Happened: On Thursday, Pickles, a key figure in X’s leadership and a close associate of CEO Linda Yaccarino, took to X and shared the information about his decision to leave the company.

Expressing gratitude toward his colleagues and X CEO for their support during his tenure at X, Pickles hinted at taking a break before embarking on a new challenge.

“I made the decision to leave several months ago and I’m grateful to Linda Yaccarino for her support and partnership as we’ve worked through the transition,” he stated.

Earlier this year, X promoted Pickles to the vice-president of global affairs position. According to company insiders, after this promotion, he effectively became the right-hand man to CEO Yaccarino, who has been under pressure to revitalize the company's struggling business, reported Financial Times.

Pickles was reportedly one of the most influential lieutenants from the old Twitter and led policy work at X along with Joe Benarroch's responsibilities after the latter was suddenly fired in June.

Why It Matters: Pickles’ departure comes at a challenging time for X. The company has been facing regulatory issues in Brazil, with a Brazilian Supreme Court justice calling for an immediate halt to X’s operations in the country.

X is also grappling with a potential 26% decline in ad spend by 2025, according to a survey by analytics group Kantar. This is largely due to concerns about the platform's association with contentious content.

Meanwhile, X is also reportedly closing its San Francisco headquarters on the ominous date of Friday, Sept. 13.
