President-elect Donald Trump has openly condemned President Joe Biden for selling off portions of the southern border wall between the United States and Mexico at incredibly low costs, referring to the action as an “almost criminal act.” Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Trump urged Biden to immediately halt the sales, arguing that the materials are critical for his incoming administration's plans to finish building the wall.

“They're selling it for five cents on the dollar, knowing we're going to need it,” Trump said during a press conference. “It's very expensive now – double what it was six years ago. If we don't have it, we'll have to rebuild, costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.”

What's Going On?

Reports indicate that unused portions of the border wall are being auctioned through GovPlanet, a government surplus equipment marketplace. Videos shared by The Daily Wire on Dec. 12 show trucks moving wall parts from Arizona border stations. Border patrol agents say they're clearing out these materials before Christmas and “taking it from three stations: Nogales, Tucson and Three Points.”

“I'm asking today, Joe Biden, to please stop selling the wall. We're going to use that to create a strong barrier,” Trump pleaded.

This disposal follows the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, which mandated the sale, transfer or donation of unused materials to reduce storage costs. While some materials were sent to Texas and California for repairs, others were sold through auctions. According to a Biden administration official who spoke to USA Today, auctioning the materials was the most economical option. He also said the government loses legal custody of the assets after selling them.

Trump, who plans to rebuild and expand the border wall during his second term, has called the sales a direct attack on his agenda. "They know we're going to use it," Trump said, accusing the Biden administration of deliberately sabotaging his plans. "Just think about how ridiculous it is."

The Political Blame Game

This latest clash over the border wall highlights ongoing tensions between the two administrations. In February, Biden shifted the blame for the border crisis to Trump, accusing him and his allies of derailing a bipartisan border security plan. "The only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends," Biden said in a statement at the time.
