Shaquille O’Neal is no stranger to making headlines for his dominance on the basketball court, his charismatic personality or his business ventures. But one of his more unexpected revelations recently caught the attention of fans as he admits spending a whopping $1,000 on a single pedicure. Yes, you read that right –$1,000 just for his feet. So, why does he do it and what makes it so pricey?

The $1,000 Pedicure

On both The Tonight Show and his own The Big Podcast with Shaq, the NBA legend opened up about his foot care routine. Shaq's feet are famously rough, which he openly admits. "I know my feet stink. I know they're ugly," he said, adding that he likes to paint his toenails to make them look "pretty." But he's not just splurging for the fun of it; he genuinely feels for the nail techs who have to deal with the state of his feet.

Don't Miss:

"I feel sorry for the young lady that's doing my feet," Shaq joked on The Tonight Show. "I don't know how much she makes, but I want her to feel appreciated." Between sparkly polish and intricate designs, his pedicures are more about turning something "ugly" into something fun: “I do like sparkles and designs and all this stuff, you know, just to make it look pretty.”

A Lucky Tradition

Shaq started painting his toenails for a reason. Early in his basketball career, a toe injury almost stopped him from playing. His mom helped by painting the injured nail and he scored 40 points that game! After that, Shaq decided to keep painting his toes. He thought it might be good luck and became a fun habit.

However, he prefers to have his pedicures done in privacy. Because he doesn’t want people to stare at his feet, he typically goes to nail salons when no one else is around.

Shaq's Financial Evolution

It's hard to talk about Shaq's spending habits without revisiting one of the most significant moments in his financial journey. Early in his career, Shaq admitted to blowing through $1 million in just 30 minutes. After receiving a check from a trading card deal, he splurged on three Mercedes-Benz cars, jewelry and custom suits. By the next day, he realized taxes, agent fees and other expenses had left him with far less than he thought.

That's when his bank manager stepped in, offering him a wake-up call. "Shaq, you know, when they’re done playing, it’s a large percentage that have nothing. I’ve been following your career. You’re a bright young star. I don’t want you to be like that. You need to learn how to take care and manage your money," the manager urged him to learn about money management. Shaq took the advice to heart, educating himself about finances, investing wisely and building his fortune. Today, he's worth an estimated $500 million, proving he's come a long way from those reckless spending days.

Why Shaq's Pedicures Make Sense

Spending $1,000 on a pedicure might seem extravagant for someone as successful as Shaq, but it fits his personality and values. He's all about making people laugh, feeling comfortable in his skin and showing appreciation to those around him. Whether painting his toenails or sharing his financial wisdom, Shaq's choices reflect a larger-than-life approach to life – and one rooted in lessons learned the hard way.
