The company's revenue surged to $7.31 billion from $6.35 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.42 per share on revenue of $6.84 billion.
Hershey Co HSY reported better-than-expected Q1 earnings. HSY's net income increased to $160.1 million, or $0.70 per share, from $147.4 million, or $0.64 per share, in the year-ago quarter. On an adjusted basis, the company's earnings came in at $0.72 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.70 per share. Ford Motor Co F reported upbeat Q1 results. Ford reported its quarterly earnings at $0.61 per share, up from $0.50 per share, in the year-earlier period. The company's revenue surged 18% to $33.1 billion. The company's adjusted profit for the first quarter came in at $0.62 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.50 per share on revenue of $30.5 billion.
US Airways Group Inc LCC reported lower-than-expected Q1 loss. The company's loss came in at $114 million, or $0.71 per share, versus a loss of $45 million, or $0.28 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's revenue increased 12% y/y to $2.96 billion. However, analysts were expecting a loss of $0.73 per share on sales of $2.94 billion.
Office Depot Inc ODP swung to a loss of $5.4 million, or $0.05 per share in the first quarter, from a profit of $29.5 million, or $0.07 per share, in the year-ago period. ODP's sales dropped to $2.97 billion from $3.07 billion.
AutoNation Inc AN reported its Q1 profit at $69.4 million, or $0.46 per share, up from $55.2 million, or $0.32 per share, in the year-earlier period. The company's revenue increased to $3.31 billion, from $2.84 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $0.43 per share on revenue of $3.32 billion. AN lowered its full-year industry US new vehicle sales outlook from 12.8 million units to the mid-12 million units.
Coach Inc COH reported better-than-expected its FQ3 earnings. The company's net income came in at $186 million, or $0.62 per share, versus $157.6 million, or $0.50 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's sales increased 14% to $950.7 million. However, analysts expected earnings of $0.60 per share on sales of $946.5 million.
Lorillard Inc LO reported its Q1 earnings at $248 million, or $1.71 per share, compared with $232 million, or $1.50 per share, in the year-earlier period. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $1.57 per share. The company's net sales increased 13% to $1.54 billion.
Illinois Tool Works Inc ITW also reported better-than-expected Q1 results and lifted full-year projections. The company reported its Q1 profit at $623 million, or $1.24 per share, versus $334 million, or $0.66 per share, in the year-earlier period. ITW's total revenue increased 17% to $4.39 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $0.85 per share on revenue of $4.18 billion.
Coca-Cola Co KO reported weaker-than-expected quarterly results. The company's Q1 profit came in at $1.9 billion, or $0.82 per share, versus $1.61 billion, or $0.69 per share, in the year-earlier period. The company's sales surged 40% to $10.52 billion. Excluding restructuring charges and other items, the company's earnings came in at $0.86 per share. However, analysts expected earnings of $0.87 per share on sales of $10.58 billion.
Delta Air Lines Inc DAL reported lower-than-expected Q1 loss. The company reported a Q1 net loss at $318 million, or $0.38 per share, versus a loss of $256 million, or $0.31 per share, in the year-earlier period. However, analysts estimated a loss of $0.50 per share. DAL's operating revenue increased 13% to $7.75 billion.
Lockheed Martin Corp LMT reported its Q1 profit at $530 million, or $1.50 per share, versus $533 million, or $1.41 per share, in the year-earlier period. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.51 per share. LMT's quarterly sales increased to $10.6 billion from $10.3 billion. For the full year, Lockheed lifted its profit projections to a range of $6.95 to $7.25 per share, from $6.70 to $7 per share.
United Parcel Service Inc UPS reported upbeat earnings for the first quarter. UPS reported its Q1 profit at $885 million, or $0.88 per share, up from $533 million, or $0.53 per share, in the year-earlier period. The company's adjusted earnings surged to $0.88 per share, from $0.71 per share. The company's revenue increased 7.3% to $12.58 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.84 per share on revenue of $12.71 billion. UPS boosted its 2011 earnings forecast to $4.15 to $4.40 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $4.25 per share.
OSI System OSIS reported its Q3 EPS at $0.48, versus the estimates of $0.47. OSIS reported its revenue at $175 million, versus the consensus of $167.64 million. OSIS issued upbeat revenue projections for FY11.
U.S. Steel Corp X reported its Q1 loss at $86 million, or $0.60 per share, versus a loss of $157 million, or $1.10 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's net sales increased to $4.86 billion from $3.90 billion. However, analysts expected a loss of $0.33 per share on sales of $4.89 billion.
