Alpha Natural Resources Inc ANR swung to a second-quarter loss.
Alpha posted a quarterly loss of $56.4 million, or $0.36 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $38.8 million, or $0.32 per share. Excluding one-time items, Alpha's income from continuing operations came in at $0.96 per share. Its revenue climbed 59% to $1.59 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.08 per share on revenue of $1.51 billion.
Alpha shares dropped 5.19% to $38.00 in pre-market trading.
