Netflix said it reached the 200-million subscriber mark in its fourth-quarter earnings report, and CEO Reed Hastings celebrated in a unique way.
What Happened: Hastings, who co-founded Netflix Inc NFLX, continued his superstitious practice of celebrating company milestones with a meal from Denny’s Corp DENN.
Hastings had a meal from Denny’s delivered, which prompted a tweet from Denny’s asking: “you and us and chill?”

In 2017, Hastings shared in a Facebook post that he celebrated the 100-million subscriber mark for the company with a Denny’s meal to keep a tradition, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The CEO and co-founder ate a steak dinner alone at Denny’s to celebrate the milestone.
“Celebrating 100 million members the same way I did 1m, a steak alone at Denny’s. #Superstitious,” the post from Hastings said.

Why It’s Important: Netflix reported 203.66 million global subscribers at the end of the fourth quarter. This figure was up 21.9% year-over-year and came in ahead of consensus estimates.
The company saw record viewership in December and during the week of Dec. 25-31. Netflix said it broke records for total hours viewed and average hours viewed per subscriber during the last week of December.
New hits like “Bridgerton” and “We Can Be Heroes” helped power the streaming service's strong month.
With continued hit original programming and growing subscriber figures, the question could now turn to when Hastings will buy a Denny's steak dinner to celebrate 300 million subscribers.
NFLX Price Action: Shares of Netflix were down 1.82% Thursday at $575.68. Shares hit new 52-week highs of $593.28 on
Wednesday.
