Zinger Key Points
  • Adobe is still the leader in Benzinga’s portfolio, up 63%.
  • A volatile week saw ChatGPT's portfolio slid to eighth position when compared against the initial lineup from May.

We're now in the 18th week of Benzinga's series, "Is ChatGPT A Better Financial Advisor?" As we approach the final eight weeks of this six-month experiment, the opportunity to climb the leaderboard is narrowing.

Benzinga gave ChatGPT a hypothetical $10,000 to craft an investment portfolio to challenge the heavyweights of Wall Street.

So how are ChatGPT’s picks doing? Tracking began on May 10:

Fund/ETF 18-Week Performance
SPDR S&P 500 +7.87%
Invesco QQQ Trust +14.95%
Schwab Total Stock Market Index Fund +9.41%
Vanguard Growth Index Fund +12.58%

Fidelity Contrafund +13.03%
T. Rowe Price Growth Stock Fund +14.02%
Fidelity Total Market Index Fund +9.42%

ChatGPT 18-Week Performance
Benzinga’s ChatGPT Portfolio +7.3%

A volatile week saw ChatGPT's portfolio drop to eighth place, compared to other portfolios being tracked beginning in May.

With only eight weeks remaining in this half-year showdown, ChatGPT's portfolio, which reached its peak in July, now faces a challenging climb to outperform leading funds like Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 QQQ and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust SPY.

Spotlight: Adobe Inc ADBE is still the leader in Benzinga’s ChatGPT portfolio, up 63%, while Tesla Inc TSLA trails with a 48% gain. In contrast, Nike Inc NKE is still the biggest laggard, down 14.6%.

Maintaining the long-term view, all stocks in the ChatGPT portfolio will be held until the experiment concludes.

So, where does it leave us? While it's premature to draw conclusions, it's evident that the ChatGPT portfolio faced some headwinds over the past month.
