Fred's May Comparable Store Sales up 0.2%

Fred's, Inc. FRED today reported sales for the four-week fiscal month of May, which ended May 28, 2011. Fred's total sales for the month increased 1% to $143.5 million from $141.5 million in May 2010. Comparable store sales for the month rose 0.2% compared with an increase of 3.5% in the same period last year. Fred's total sales for the first four months of fiscal 2011 increased 2% to $627.9 million compared with $613.1 million for the same period last year. On a comparable store basis, year-to-date sales increased 0.8% on top of an increase of 2.5% in the same period last year.
