Macy's Inc M reported its Q1 profit at $131 million, or $0.30 per share, from $23 million, or $0.05 per share, in the year-earlier period. The company's sales increased 5.7% to $5.89 billion. Its same-store sales surged 5.4%. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.18 per share. Macy's lifted its full-year same-store sales growth forecast to a rise of around 4.3% from its earlier forecast of a 3% rise. The company raised its profit projections to a range of $2.40 to $2.45 per share, up from its earlier guidance of $2.25 to $2.30 per share. However, analysts were projecting profit of $2.34 per share for the year. The company also increased its quarterly dividend to $0.10 per share.
ArcelorMittal MT reported a 67% rise in its first-quarter net income. The company's quarterly earnings increased to $1.07 billion, or $0.69 per share, from $640 million, or $0.33 per share, in the year-ago period. Its earnings from continuing operations climbed 3.4% to $608 million. Its shares outstanding dropped 1.5% to 1.55 billion. MT's revenue rose to $22.18 billion from $17.43 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $792 million on revenue of $22.56 billion. In the first quarter, MT shipped 22 million metric tons of steel, versus 21 million, in the year-earlier period. The company's operating profit per ton jumped to $65 from $27.
Toyota Motor Corp TM reported a 77% decline in its net profit for the January-March quarter. The company's quarterly operating profit came in at ¥46.1 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of ¥94.6 billion. The company's net profit for the full fiscal year climbed to 408.1 billion yen ($5 billion) from ¥209.4 billion.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd TEVA reported a 6.7% rise in its first-quarter net income. The company also affirmed its projections for the full year. The company's profit increased to $761 million, or $0.84 per share, versus $713 million, or $0.79 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's adjusted net rose to $1.04 per share from $0.91 per share. The company's shares outstanding dropped 2.1% to 902 million. Its sales climbed 12% to $4.08 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.04 per share on sales of $4.28 billion. TEVA's sales in Europe increased 66% while sales in North America dropped 11%. TEVA projects 2011 adjusted earnings of $4.90 to $5.20 per share on revenue of $18.5 billion to $19 billion. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $5.07 per share on revenue of $18.74 billion.
IntraLinks Holdings Inc IL reported its Q1 EPS of $0.10, versus the estimates of $0.10. IL reported its revenue of $52.4 million, versus the estimates of $53.01 million.
J Sainsbury PLC JSAIY reported its full-year profit at 640 million pounds ($1.05 billion), up from 585 million pounds, in the year-earlier period. The company's earnings per share surged 7.2% to 34.4 pence from 32.1 pence. Its total sales including value added tax increased 7.1% to 22.94 billion pounds from 21.42 billion pounds. However, its total sales including VAT and excluding fuel surged 4.9%. Its comparable sales increased 2.3%. The company's underlying pretax profit surged 9% to 665 million pounds, versus analysts' estimates of 661 million pounds. Sainsbury also declared a full-year dividend of 15.1 pence.
Kids Brand Inc KID reported its Q1 EPS of $0.08, versus the estimates of $0.04. KID reported its revenue of $59.8 million, versus the estimates of $59.2 million.
Enbridge Inc ENB reported its Q1 EPS of $0.89, versus the estimates of $0.87.
