Metals Mostly Lower, Copper Higher

The metals market is much lower today, with the notable exception of copper, which again for a second day is higher. Equities are higher, with all three indexes up approximately 1%. Copper is up 2.8 cents to trade at $4.0240, a gain of 0.7%. The move over $4 is psychologically important for a healthy economy. Ipath Dow Jones Ubs Copper Total ETF JJC is up 10 cents to $52.50, a gain of 0.2%. Silver is down sharply, down $2.01 to $40.28, as it struggles to hold on to the $40 mark. Shares of Ishares Silver Trust ETF SLV are down $1.27 this morning, to trade at $39.35, a loss of 3.1%. Gold is plunging for the second straight day, down $76.30 an ounce to $1,785.00, a loss of 4.1%. Shares of Spdr Gold Trust ETF GLD are down $5.20 to $172.47. Platinum is down $46.50 an ounce, trading at $1,833.60, a loss of nearly 2.5%. The platinum ETF settings First Trust ISE Global Platinum Index PLTM is up 18 cents this morning to trade at $23.44, despite the metal moving lower. Palladium is down $11.35 an ounce today, trading at $753.05, a loss of 1.5%. Shares of ETFS Physical Palladium Shares PALL are sharply lower today, down 45 cents to $75.01.
