The Dow looks poised to post another consecutive day of gains. The index was up about 262 points, a 1.51 percent increase from Wednesday. With this backdrop, the top three gainers in Thursday's trading with the highest short interest are noteworthy.
Empire Resorts Inc NYNY
The stock was recently up 14 percent at $8.18 following plans for its new casino. The company submitted an application to New York State Gaming Facility Location Board for the new Montreign Resort Casino earlier this week. The company has a significant short interest as a percentage of float, standing at 13.5 percent as of November 28.
ZaZa Energy Corporation ZAZA
The second contender is severely shorted with a short interest of 17.9 percent as of the end of last month. The company focuses on the exploration and development of unconventional onshore oil and gas resources in the United States. ZaZa was up a substantial 18 percent at $1.55 Thursday afternoon.
Approach Resources Inc. AREX
The energy company might have gained the least in this top gainers list, but that didn't stop it from having the highest short interest as a percentage of the company's float, amounting to 25.2 percent. The company has received a series of downgrades this month, with the latest one just two days ago from Wunderlich, which set the price target of $5.
Shares were recently up 2.3 percent at $5.79.
