'Whenever I Leave The House, I Just Try To Do A Good Deed' – How Shaq Once Randomly Paid For Someone's Engagement Ring At A Mall

Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA legend, is making a big impact wherever he goes. He has made it a habit to spread kindness in ways that often never make it to the headlines. One of those stories that did come to light was when he paid off a young man’s engagement ring at a Zales store in a mall. It’s just one example of how Shaq tries to make the world a little brighter daily.

Don't Miss:

In 2021, Shaq went to a Zales store looking for hoop earrings. While there, he noticed a young man in a blue shirt nervously talking to the clerk about how much he still owed on an engagement ring. Shaq couldn't help but listen in as the shy man spoke. Before anyone knew what was happening, Shaq handed the clerk his credit card and paid off the man's ring, right there on the spot. No publicity, just a heartfelt gesture.

Shaq shared the story later with his co-hosts on NBA on TNT, saying, “I seen the guy come in, he was just so shy. He said, ‘Hey, how much do I owe to pay off my ring?’ It was just … And I was like, ‘My man, how much is the ring?'” He didn't reveal the amount but clarified that it was no big deal for him.

The young man initially didn't want to accept Shaq's help, but Shaq insisted, telling him, “Tell your girlfriend I got it, take care of it.” At first, he didn't want to take it, saying, "No, I can't do that." Shaq replied, "Don't worry about it, I do it all the time."

For Shaq, these acts aren't about getting attention or looking good. He explained, "I didn't mean for that to get out because I don't do it for that." Shaq's goal is simply to make people happy. "Whenever I leave the house, I just try to do a good deed," he said. It's as simple as that for him.

Shaq is indeed known for doing these kinds of things and apart from this story, he has stepped up to help many people in need. In the same TNT show, he also shared how he recently took his mom furniture shopping and while they were at the store, they saw a mother with an autistic daughter. You can guess what happened next, as Shaq paid for their furniture too, just because he could, saying, "I'm into making people happy."
