Dave Ramsey has helped many people with his finances, but some people call into "The Ramsey Show" for relationship advice. A husband trying to save his marriage recently called into the show for guidance.
Although Ramsey is a person of faith, he wasn't optimistic about the caller's situation, and it seemed to get worse as the call progressed. Two behaviors from the wife were red flags for Ramsey.
"These two behaviors say you're getting divorced," he said.

What To Do With The Joint Bank Account
The husband didn't just call to get help with his relationship. He also wanted to know how he should handle the finances. The couple is still legally married, and he asked Ramsey if he should keep the joint account intact or close it.
Ramsey told the caller to close the joint account and open a new one that receives his direct deposits moving forward. The wife wants to continue paying down debt, but she has separated her finances already. The couple can determine who pays the bills as they navigate this rough patch. Ramsey said that they can open a joint checking account again if they reconcile.
These are the types of situations where you have to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. There's nothing wrong with playing defense and making sure your finances are covered.
"You don't need to have everything in one pile anymore," Ramsey told the caller. He doubled down on this by telling the husband to separate the finances as if you were divorced.

The Two Behaviors That Ramsey Didn't Like
As the call continued, the caller shared two details about his wife that Ramsey didn't like. These two behaviors were red flags that made Ramsey believe that a divorce was likely.
The first thing Ramsey didn't like was that she had an affair. Not all marriages end in divorce if one of the spouses has an affair, but it will result in significant damage to the relationship. The caller is in the middle of that fallout, and the wife's second behavior doesn't suggest that things will get better.
She also keeps secrets from her husband, which is another red flag for Ramsey. Big mistakes in the past plus keeping secrets in the present don't suggest a promising outcome.
It's still technically possible that they repair the relationship, and there is some effort toward this goal. The couple is meeting with a marriage counselor to see if they can revive their marriage, but they meet the counselor separately.
