ANA received notice that the engines which may contain specific parts must be inspected or replaced within a specified period of time.&nbsp;
The engines are installed on&nbsp;Airbus SE&rsquo;s&nbsp;(OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/eadsy#OTC">EADSY</a>) A320neo and A321neo aircraft. The inspection will begin in January 2024.&nbsp;
A total of 33 aircraft, 11 A320neo and 22 A321neo, will be subjected to the inspections.
According to P&amp;W, the inspection process is expected to take 250 to 300 days per engine. ANA said select flights on domestic and international routes will be reduced due to the inspection process.

What Happened: According to an <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/now/att-verizon-c-band-5g-rollout-182958225.html">Endgadget</a> report, AT&amp;T&rsquo;s C-Band 5G services are now live in &ldquo;limited parts&rdquo; of eight markets &mdash;&nbsp;Austin, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Jacksonville, Orlando and South Florida. Verizon stated it planned to have its 5G Ultra Wideband network in more than 1,700 cities by the end of this month.
AT&amp;T and Verizon won the C-Band spectrum in an $80-billion government auction and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/01/24873345/at-t-and-verizon-agree-to-2-week-delay-on-5g-rollout">planned</a> to use it to boost their 5G speed and coverage. But the initial rollout date of Jan. 5 was delayed for two weeks at the request of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Federal Aviation Administration Chief Steve Dickson&nbsp;based on safety concerns that the signal would interfere with cockpit safety systems in airplanes.

The company praised AT&amp;T and Verizon&#39;s limiting of the scope of the rollout near airports and pledged to work for a solution to the issue.

Japan Airlines Co Ltd (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/japsy#OTC">JAPSY</a>) said&nbsp;Monday it has retired all of its Boeing Co&rsquo;s (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ba#NYSE">BA</a>) 777 jets powered by Pratt &amp; Whitney PW4000 engines, a year earlier than scheduled&nbsp;after suspending operations in February.
What Happened: Two back-to-back engine failure incidents, first in December involving a Japan Airlines jet and then another one involving&nbsp;a United Airlines (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ual#NYSE">UAL</a>) flight in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/21/02/19764375/united-airlines-flight-suffers-engine-failure-lands-safely-in-denver" style="text-decoration:none">February</a>, resulted in the global grounding of the 777s powered by the PW4000 series.&nbsp;
The airline is using the opportunity to accelerate the retirement of all such jets from its fleet and plans to replace them with Airbus SE&rsquo;s (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/eadsy#OTC">EADSY</a>) A350 jets.
Japan Airlines has retired 13 of these jets, seven of which were scheduled to leave its fleet in March this year. The airline now plans to use its current fleet of eight A350s, with orders for 10 more, to handle most of its domestic demand.&nbsp;

Trading for under $3.50 per share at the start of the year, JOBY stock at one point reached prices nearing $12 per share, during the height of this summer&rsquo;s &ldquo;eVTOL mania.&rdquo; Again though, JOBY&rsquo;s performance since then has been far less awe-inspiring. Sure, the stock has been climbing higher in recent weeks. 



As mentioned above, shares are still up by more than 100% year-to-date. On the other hand, shares are down by around 40% off their 52-week highs. 



Excitement about eVTOL stocks still hasn&rsquo;t made a big comeback. Rising short-interest (currently at around <a href="https://fintel.io/ss/us/joby">18.8%</a> of float) suggests the &ldquo;smart money&rdquo; knows something&rsquo;s going down (and it&rsquo;s not good). 



Like with any speculative growth stock, uncertainty runs high. However, this may work to your advantage. It may take just a small amount of positive news to drive the next liftoff. There may be also be a silver lining to JOBY&rsquo;s rising short interest.



<h2>Another Banner Year Ahead?</h2>



As discussed in my last JOBY stock article, <a href="https://investorplace.com/2023/12/joby-stock-why-joby-aviation-could-dominate-the-skies-in-2024-and-beyond/">several developments</a> have made the present year a banner one for the company. For instance, in 2023, Joby Aviation has made progress in obtaining the needed certifications from the Federal Aviation Administration needed in order to fully exit the pre-revenue stage.



Besides regulatory progress, the company has made progress lining up customers and strategic partners. Several airlines around the world are working with Joby, in their efforts to one day offer air taxi services. 



Just last week, Joby and its Japanese airline partner, ANA Holdings (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/alnpy-stock-quote/">ALNPY</a>) <a href="https://ir.jobyaviation.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/79/joby-ana-holdings-partner-with-nomura-real-estate">announced a deal</a> with Nomura Real Estate Development to design and build &ldquo;vertiports&rdquo; throughout Japan.



While these examples may be best classified as &ldquo;small wins,&rdquo; racking up a few more in 2024 could do wonders for JOBY shares. This, plus renewed appreciation for speculative <a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-types/growth-stocks/">growth stocks</a>, as interest rate trends become more favorable, could fuel a move back in the right direction for this stock.



That&rsquo;s not all. Given the relatively high short interest with JOBY right now, a sudden shift in sentiment back to bullish could really throw the short side in for a loop.



<h2>The Bottom Line</h2>



Let&rsquo;s be clear. While analysts expect Joby to report substantially higher revenue next year ($25 million, versus an estimated $1.12 million for 2023), this company has a ways to go before hitting the big time commercially.



Still, a tremendous liftoff could precede the big payoff. The stock could climb to new highs, as investors further price-in future growth. Joby&rsquo;s eVTOL aircraft may not need a whole lot of runway, but the potential growth runway for this industry is extensive. 



At least, that&rsquo;s the view of InvestorPlace&rsquo;s Luke Lango. Last year, he argued that the total addressable market for eVTOLs could one day hit <a href="https://investorplace.com/hypergrowthinvesting/2022/08/the-future-of-transportation-lies-in-flying-cars-10-trillion-market/">$3 trillion</a>. Other analysts have cited even higher numbers.



With this, if you can handle the risk and volatility, and are bullish on the eVTOL trend, definitely keep JOBY stock on your radar.

The primary reason for this increased interest was regulatory approvals that are likely to set the stage for commercialization by 2025. But after a good rally, some of the top companies in the space have been in a correction and consolidation mode. This means they could offer opportunity as some of the best undervalued <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/consumer-discretionary/automotive/flying-cars/">flying car stocks</a> on the market right now.



An important point to note is that most flying car companies are in an early-growth stage. Considering the market potential over the next decades, the best part of the rally is still to come. Therefore, it&rsquo;s a good time to accumulate undervalued <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/consumer-discretionary/automotive/flying-cars/">flying car stocks</a> for multibagger returns.



Highlighting the market potential, Morgan Stanley estimates that the flying car market will be worth $1 trillion by 2040. By 2050, the market size will <a href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/China-tech/China-s-flying-car-developers-ready-for-takeoff-in-2025">swell to $9 trillion</a>. Further, between 2022 and 2030, the market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) <a href="https://www.marketsandmarkets.com/Market-Reports/flying-car-market-65766484.html">of 37%</a>, from $74.2 million to $920.5 million. These numbers put into perspective the impending growth potential for flying car stocks.



<h2>EHang Holdings (EH)</h2>

EHang Holdings (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/eh-stock-quote/">EH</a>) stock has witnessed correction and consolidation after a big rally in the first half of 2023. With short interest around 20%, a short-squeeze rally for the stock could be driven by fundamental developments. 



After its approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the company completed debut commercial flight demonstrations in Guangzhou and Hefei. The Hefei Municipal Government will also be purchasing 100 EH216 series <a href="https://ir.ehang.com/news-releases/news-release-details/ehangs-certified-eh216-s-pilotless-passenger-carrying-aerial">pilotless aerial vehicles</a> for a consideration of $100 million. The company is expected to make bigger inroads in the Chinese market in the next few years.



At the same time, EHang has been conducting trial flights in Asia and Europe. EHang has <a href="https://ir.ehang.com/news-releases/news-release-details/ehang-reports-second-quarter-2023-unaudited-financial-results">completed 39,000 demo flights</a> in 14 countries. It&rsquo;s likely that global expansion will be aggressive once regulatory approvals come. As the company positions itself for stellar growth between 2025 and 2030, EH stock currently seems like one of the undervalued flying car stocks that investors should be paying attention to. 



<h2>Archer Aviation (ACHR)</h2>

After a strong rally in the first half of 2023, Archer Aviation (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/achr-stock-quote/">ACHR</a>) stock has remained sideways in the last six months. With plans for commercialization of eVTOL vehicles in the United States in 2025, Archer looks poised for considerable returns, making it another one of the currently undervalued flying car stocks investors should investigate.



In terms of the next 36 months, the company&rsquo;s plans look exciting. Archer Aviation expects to <a href="https://s27.q4cdn.com/936913558/files/doc_earnings/2023/q3/generic/Shareholder-Letter-Q323.pdf">commence &ldquo;for credit&rdquo; testing</a> with the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) this year, with commercialization in 2025. Further, Archer will enter the United Arab Emirates and India in 2026 through partnerships.



It&rsquo;s worth noting that Archer has a backlog of $142 million from the U.S. Air Force. The backlog has swelled with an order from Air Chateau International <a href="https://www.investors.archer.com/news/news-details/2023/Archer-Aviation-and-Air-Chateau-International-Announce-Air-Chateau-Internationals-Planned-Purchase-of-up-to-100-Midnight-Aircraft-Worth-up-to-500M/default.aspx">worth $500 million</a>. Archer is also well financed. As of Q3 2023, Archer reported a liquidity buffer of $600 million. Additionally, the backing of <a href="https://www.investors.archer.com/news/news-details/2023/Archer-Closing-Oversubscribed-PIPE-as-Part-of-215M-Investment-Round-Led-by-Stellantis-ARK--United-Are-Two-Key-Investors-in-the-PIPE-Signifying-Intersection-of-Innovative-Financial-Institutions--Traditional-Aerospace-Investing-in-Disruptive-Tech/default.aspx">some big investors</a> underscores the company&rsquo;s credibility and growth potential.



<h2>Joby Aviation (JOBY)</h2>

In December, Joby announced a partnership with ANA Holdings (OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/alnpy-stock-quote/">ALNPY</a>) and Nomura Real Estate Development to develop vertiports across Japan. This will serve as a &ldquo;<a href="https://ir.jobyaviation.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/79/joby-ana-holdings-partner-with-nomura-real-estate">backbone of future commercial air taxi services</a>.&rdquo;

The company has also completed the first delivery of its electric air taxi to the U.S. Air Force. This is a part of a $131 million contract.



Joby Aviation ended Q3 2023 with a liquidity buffer of $1.1 billion. The company&rsquo;s first production facility in California has been provided with <a href="https://d1io3yog0oux5.cloudfront.net/_e7de143520ac3d9016a8fba7bb3edc66/jobyaviation/db/1086/9821/pdf/Joby-Q3-2023-Shareholder-Letter.pdf">total benefits of $325 million</a> from state and local agencies, implying the company should not have any current financial concerns.



Clearly, business development has been positive even as the stock remains sideways to lower. This could indicate an upcoming strong reversal rally, making it another top choice for currently undervalued flying car stocks.

If you&rsquo;re bullish about air taxis, it&rsquo;s fine to own Joby Aviation&nbsp;(NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/joby-stock-quote/">JOBY</a>) stock. However, there&rsquo;s another air-taxi stock you can buy instead of, or besides, shares of Joby Aviation.



I&rsquo;ve <a href="https://investorplace.com/2024/01/hold-on-joby-aviation-stock-will-exit-the-no-fly-zone-soon/">recommended investing in Joby Aviation</a>, and I&rsquo;ll stand by that recommendation today. However, in light of a big risk that Joby Aviation is taking, it&rsquo;s wise to diversify your stock holdings in the eVTOL industry. So, let&rsquo;s delve into the details and learn about the recent debate in the air-taxi market.



<h2>Joby Aviation and a Rival Strike Similar Deals</h2>



Joby Aviation has several value-added deals in place. For example, the company is partnering with Clay Lacy Aviation to install the <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/joby-clay-lacy-partner-bring-120000310.html">first electric air-taxi charger</a> in Southern California, at John Wayne Airport. 



Also, Joby Aviation and its Japanese airline partner,&nbsp;ANA Holdings&nbsp;(OTCMKTS:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/alnpy-stock-quote/">ALNPY</a>),&nbsp;<a href="https://ir.jobyaviation.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/79/joby-ana-holdings-partner-with-nomura-real-estate">announced a deal</a>&nbsp;with&nbsp;Nomura Real Estate Development&nbsp;to design and build eVTOL &ldquo;vertiports&rdquo; (which are like airports for air taxis) in Japan.



Joby Aviation&nbsp;is <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/joby-atlantic-aviation-collaborate-electrify-120000878.html">collaborating with</a> Atlantic Aviation to build eVTOL infrastructure, presumably including charging infrastructure for air taxis. However, Joby Aviation&rsquo;s competitor, Archer Aviation&nbsp;(NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/achr-stock-quote/">ACHR</a>), struck a very similar <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/atlantic-aviation-archer-aviation-align-090000714.html">eVTOL infrastructure development deal</a> with Atlantic Aviation.

They&rsquo;re similar in some ways, but there&rsquo;s also a big difference between Joby Aviation&nbsp;and Archer Aviation. They&rsquo;re advancing two different eVTOL charging systems, and this may be cause for concern among JOBY stock investors.



<h2>Why JOBY Stock Is Risky Now</h2>



Here&rsquo;s the rundown. Archer Aviation is advancing the <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/atlantic-aviation-archer-aviation-align-090000714.html">Combined Charging System</a>. This charging standard was &ldquo;recently endorsed by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association&rdquo; Plus, it&rsquo;s already being used by &ldquo;several top original equipment manufacturers cross the industry.&rdquo;



That&rsquo;s an advantage for Archer Aviation. In contrast, Joby Aviation&nbsp;is advancing its proprietary, <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/joby-atlantic-aviation-collaborate-electrify-120000878.html">&ldquo;Joby-developed&rdquo;</a> <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/01/17/joby-aviation-charging-air-taxis">Global Electric Aviation Charging System</a>. Regarding this, Joby Aviation assured last year that it&rsquo;s &ldquo;working with numerous electric aircraft developers to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/01/17/joby-aviation-charging-air-taxis">ensure interoperability</a>.&rdquo;



This reminds me of what&rsquo;s happening in the electric vehicle EV industry. Sooner or later, rival EV manufacturers such as Rivian&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/rivn-stock-quote/">RIVN</a>) will probably <a href="https://investorplace.com/2023/06/rivn-stock-alert-rivian-jumps-on-the-tesla-bandwagon-for-ev-charging/">end up adopting</a> Tesla&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tsla-stock-quote/">TSLA</a>) EV charging standard, if they haven&rsquo;t done so already.



Yet, Joby Aviation&nbsp;is evidently pushing its own, non-standard eVTOL charging system. Does Joby Aviation think it&rsquo;s the Tesla of air-taxi companies? The company is taking a big risk by spending time, money and effort on its &ldquo;Joby developed&rdquo; charging system. So, investors really need to think about whether this gambit will pay off in the long run.



<h2>Consider ACHR Stock With, or Instead of, JOBY Stock</h2>



Joby Aviation&nbsp;is still an interesting and ambitious eVTOL industry player. However, the company is taking a major risk with GEACS. Therefore, you might want to invest in Archer Aviation instead of Joby Aviation.



On the other hand, Joby&rsquo;s GEACS may end up being a huge success. Consequently, you could diversify your holdings by owning both ACHR stock and&nbsp;JOBY stock. Still, I would own more Archer shares than Joby shares, since the fate of GEACS remains uncertain.
