Billion entrepreneur Elon Musk on Thursday shared a video snippet on X of Palantir Technologies co-founder Peter Thiel applauding his penchant for risk. Thiel&#8217;s The Founders Fund is<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/11/35953853/elon-musks-neuralink-secures-43m-in-fresh-funding-led-by-peter-thiels-founders-fund-amid-controversi"> among the backers </a>of Musk&#8217;s SpaceX and the two worked together at PayPal in the 2000s. 
What Happened: The snippet shared by Musk is from a longer conversation that Thiel had with journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin in late June at the Aspen Ideas Festival in late June. 
"You know, when Elon was building both Tesla and SpaceX in the 2000s, people thought he was just really, really crazy. I think even those of us who had worked with him at PayPal, I mean, there's this PayPal book that David Sacks and I thought of writing, and the Elon chapter was titled something like, "The Man Who Knew Nothing About Risk",&#8221; Thiel said. 
&#8220;There are all these crazy Elon stories I could tell&#8230; If one of the two companies had succeeded, you would say, "Well, maybe he still got really lucky," but when two out of two companies that people thought were completely harebrained in the 2000s, when they both succeed, man, you have to somehow reassess it, and somehow, the rest of us, somehow, are too risk averse, or there's something about risk he knows that we don't, or something like this,&#8221; he added.
Musk&#8217;s former internet banking firm, X.com, merged with Confinity, a security software company co-founded&nbsp;by&nbsp;Peter Thiel, in 2000.&nbsp;The union of these two companies eventually brought about PayPal.
Thiel&#8217;s Investment In Musk&#8217;s Companies: While Thiel&#8217;s The Founders Fund is a backer of Musk&#8217;s SpaceX, he has no investment in Musk&#8217;s publicly-listed EV company Tesla. 
Talking about his decision to not invest in Tesla, Thiel said that he tends not to invest in public companies and Tesla went public way early in 2010. However, Thiel also has his regrets. 
&#8220;We should have invested in that one,&#8221; Thiel said at the festival. 
However, had he been a shareholder, he would have definitely voted for Musk&#8217;s $56 billion pay package from 2018 which was rescinded by a Delaware Court earlier this year, Thiel said.
&#8220;&#8230;.because you would know that if it failed, the share price would have gone down a lot the next day&#8230;.whether you believe in the package or not, the rational thing would be that you should vote for it,&#8221; Thiel said. 
 After the judge voided Musk's package, the company's board put the pay package up for shareholder vote yet again, the result of which was announced in June at the company's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39326890/elon-musk-mocks-delaware-with-farewell-cake-after-shareholders-approve-move-to-texas-vox-populi-vox" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">annual shareholder meeting</a>. The proposal was passed after it received 72% of all votes cast, only marginally lower than the 73% it received in 2018.
Why It Matters:&nbsp;In November, Musk voiced his disagreement with Thiel&#8217;s popular &#8216;law&#8217; on startups that a startup that is messed up at its foundation cannot be fixed. Tesla too was initially ‘insanely messed up' but has grown since to be one of the biggest companies around the globe by market cap, Musk said. 
"While I have immense respect for Peter&#8217;s intellect, he did explicitly pass on funding Tesla at a $70M valuation, despite being offered priority," <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/11/35867416/elon-musk-refutes-paypal-co-founders-law-claims-peter-thiel-refused-to-fund-tesla-at-onset">the CEO added</a>. 
Tesla went public in 2010. Its stock has risen over 19,000% to date to close at $246.39 on Wednesday. The company now has a market cap of $737.53B and is placed amongst the most valued companies around the globe.

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/07/39613558/tesla-stock-on-track-to-extend-6-session-winning-streak-up-3-5-premarket-whats-driving-the-accel">has been on an uninterrupted rally since June 25</a>, gaining 35% in just seven sessions. Despite this, the recent surge has not evinced confidence in a fund manager who substantially <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/07/39628261/tesla-stake-cut-defended-by-gary-black-says-strategy-shift-additive-to-our-performance-mega-bull">trimmed his Tesla position</a> in early 2024 amid the electric vehicle maker&#8217;s fundamental woes.
What Happened: Bombarded with questions from social media users, Future Fund Managing Partner Gary Black was forced to respond as to when would be the right time for the firm to restock Tesla shares. The stock now has a 3.6% weighting in Future Fund Active ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FFND#NYSE">FFND</a>), the actively-traded flagship exchange-traded fund of the Black-led firm.
&#8220;We don&#8217;t trade. And we don't blindly change our position size&#8230;.. just because the stock price is up,&#8221; Black said. Delving into his firm&#8217;s strategy, the fund manager said the team constantly evaluates position sizes based on its assessment of upside/downside.
Black noted that Tesla&#8217;s 2024 and 2025 forward estimates have declined by 49% and 44%, respectively, over the past 12 months. It&#8217;s hard for &#8220;disciplined&#8221; portfolio managers to add to Tesla positions until the earnings trajectory reverses, he said.
That said, the fund manager thinks things could be starting to reverse but is not yet ready to dive back into the stock. &#8220;We'd wait until after 2Q earnings to draw any conclusions. We'd like to see more evidence of pricing discipline,&#8221; he said.

Why It&#8217;s Important: Last week, Tesla <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/07/39595720/tesla-deliveries-fall-for-second-straight-quarter-but-stock-takes-off-as-q2-numbers-exceed-expec">reported second-quarter deliveries</a> that came in ahead of muted expectations. Despite deliveries declining year-over-year for a second straight quarter, the outperformance relative to expectations led to buoyancy in the stock.
Cautious analysts point out that the sales beat may have been achieved on the back of the copious financing incentives the company facilitated for buyers. 
The second-quarter earnings report, due July 23, will offer more cues on the margin trajectory. The management could shed more light on the progress with the company&#8217;s full self-driving software or FSD, which is currently sold as a &#8220;Supervised&#8221; version. Investors may be particularly interested in the take rate of FSD as the technology is a source of high-margin recurring revenue.
Updates on upcoming models, including the low-end EV, could also evince some interest.
The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39497273/elon-musk-needs-to-achieve-this-with-robotaxi-if-tesla-wants-to-take-on-uber-and-lyft-until-then-its">Aug. 8 robotaxi unveil event </a>could be another stock-moving catalyst depending on what Elon Musk and team have got to say.
Price Action: Tesla stock, which currently trades at the highest level since Jan. 2 (both on an intraday and closing basis), ended Wednesday&#8217;s session up 6.54% at $246.39, according to <a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/register174">Benzinga Pro data.</a>

One arrest occurred in Los Angeles, while the other took place in Baton Rouge. Lopp pointed out the folly of such thefts, noting that the stolen devices quickly depreciate in value when not in use.

What Happened: Bitcoin nosedived to the $57,000 zone, its lowest since Feb. 28. Since the beginning of this week, the world's largest digital asset has slumped 9.5%, nearly 21% down from its all-time high clocked earlier this year.
The second-largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, also crashed to a six-week low, erasing all the gains made since the hype of spot ETF approvals in mid-May.&nbsp;
The sell-offs were precipitated by the<a href="https://x.com/ArkhamIntel/status/1809023951932162227"> movement of 47,228 Bitcoin, worth $2.7 billion</a>, by defunct cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox from a cold wallet to a new wallet, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/07/39577189/will-mt-gox-really-dump-9b-in-bitcoin-on-the-market">possibly in preparation for payouts to its creditors</a>.
The slump forced the largest wave of liquidations since mid-April, as $541.45 million in future contracts was wiped out in the last 24 hours. Long liquidations accounted for a whopping $472 million.
Bitcoin's Open Interest plunged 7% in the last 24 hours. A fall in price, coming alongside a fall in OI, is viewed by some analysts as a good sign because they think the downtrend will end once all long sellers have closed their positions.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The Cryptocurrency Fear &amp; Greed Index flashed a "Fear" signal, implying that investors were bearish on the market prospects. But such conditions also provide buying opportunity for bold dip buyers.&nbsp;

"Bitcoin closing below $57,000 could spell trouble, with potential support only at $51,000," Martinez stated.&nbsp;
"If BTC can break past this level, the next significant target is $78,700," Martinez explained.&nbsp;
