&#8220;You only went in there to spend maybe $50…and before you know it, you walk out with, typically, by the way, around $600 or $700 worth of items,&#8221; Orman explains. She adds that people think they are saving with the discounts that retailers offer around this time but in reality, most people spend way more and even go into debt.
Using hypothetical scenarios, Orman outlines how small credit card purchases can snowball into significant debt. For instance, charging $1,000 for holiday gifts on a credit card with a 28% interest rate can take over nine years to pay off if only minimum payments are made. The total cost? Nearly $3,000 when factoring in interest.
According to Orman, the average American carries $6,329 in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42013422/credit-card-balances-rise-as-delinquencies-falls-the-latest">credit card debt</a>, with an average interest rate of 23.37%. At these rates, paying only the minimum due can take more than 21 years to clear the balance, costing thousands of dollars in interest.

"You are not being generous to yourself," Orman said about those left with credit card debt after the holidays. "You are financially sabotaging your future."
A MarketWatch survey found that 67% of Americans use credit cards for holiday gifts. About 12% of those surveyed said they are still paying off their balances from last year's shopping.&nbsp;
Orman also reflects on her experiences visiting homes during her time on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/07/39693693/suze-orman-tells-oprah-instead-of-starbucks-everyday-a-25-year-old-putting-100-a-month-into-roth">The Oprah Winfrey Show</a>. Suze Orman Says If You Buy Someone A Gift On A Credit Card, 'You Are Financially Sabotaging Your Future'

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) is reportedly developing a smart doorbell camera with Face ID technology that could unlock doors using facial recognition. 
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his &#8220;Power On&#8221; newsletter, the innovative device may be released by the end of 2025 "at the soonest."
The smart lock system would function similarly to an iPhone, unlocking doors when a registered user or resident is recognized by the camera. Apple plans to integrate its Secure Enclave chip, which securely stores and processes Face ID data separately from other hardware, ensuring high security.
In his <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-12-22/apple-explores-amazon-ring-doorbell-competitor-with-face-id-airpods-heart-rate?srnd=undefined&amp;sref=TBDibEcD">post</a>, Gurman suggests that the device will likely work with third-party HomeKit-enabled smart locks. This doorbell camera is part of Apple's broader push into smart home technology under its Apple Intelligence initiative. Rumored products include new smart home cameras, an Apple-branded TV, and smart displays. 
These displays are said to include an iPad-like device that attaches magnetically to wall mounts or speaker bases and another equipped with a robotic arm for enhanced flexibility.

Despite the challenges with S&amp;P 500 inclusion, the shares of the company will be listed on the Nasdaq 100 on Monday, Dec. 23. This is possible because companies eligible for inclusion are primarily chosen according to their market capitalization ranking on the last trading day of November.

At 79, Dan Weiss has found an unconventional way to stay active, earn a solid income and connect with people – <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/best-websites-to-make-money-online">assembling furniture on TaskRabbit</a>. The retired mortgage manager from Oakdale, Minnesota, earns up to $47 an hour putting together Ikea and other types of furniture, a gig that he says brings in $3,000 to $5,000 a month.
Dan told Business Insider that he retired in 2014 after decades of managing residential mortgage branches. At first, retirement seemed like a well-earned break, but it didn't take long for him to feel the absence of structure in his daily life. "Going from 100 mph to 0 was very abrupt," Dan says. "One can only do so much gardening and reading without feeling unfulfilled."

After six months of traditional retirement, he sought something to keep himself busy while avoiding dipping too heavily into his savings. Over the years, Dan tried part-time jobs at Costco, customer service roles and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38613581/uber-and-lyft-drivers-future-hangs-in-balance-as-massachusetts-supreme-court-deliberates">driving for Uber and Lyft</a> before reading about TaskRabbit in a local newspaper. Intrigued, he signed up and quickly discovered a gig he enjoyed.
Since joining TaskRabbit in 2021, Dan has completed nearly 1,200 tasks and made over $47,000 in 2023 alone. On a typical week, he handles one to three daily tasks four to five days a week, often traveling within 30 minutes of his home.

Like many retirees, Dan has wrestled with the financial and emotional challenges of leaving the workforce. According to Nationwide&#8217;s Protected Retirement Survey, 82% of Americans over 45 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/24/12/42499922/americans-regret-retirement-prep-as-advisors-rethink-2025-strategies">regret not taking retirement planning seriously earlier</a>. While he's glad his TaskRabbit income supplements his savings, he's also aware that better planning might have eased some of the pressure.
Dan's advice for retirees? Find something you love to do and stay adaptable. Whether it's assembling furniture, volunteering or pursuing hobbies, the key is maintaining a sense of purpose and structure.

TaskRabbit At 79? A Retired Mortgage Manager Assembles Furniture For $47 An Hour, Pulling In $3,000 To $5,000 A Month

Crypto analyst Anthony Pompliano, founder of Pomp Investments, remains optimistic about Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) despite its recent drop below the $100,000 milestone. 
What Happened: In a recent interview with FOX 5, Pompliano predicted that "2025 will continue to be a great year for Bitcoin."
Pompliano outlined two key factors driving Bitcoin's future growth. "One, you're going to continue to get printing of money both in the United States and globally. And then two is you have a Federal Reserve that is cutting interest rates," he said. 
During the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjqw8hGkDL8">interview</a>, he shared that the increasing M2 money supply and cheaper capital from lower interest rates are likely to fuel market gains. 
Pompliano also discussed why Bitcoin's growth and market cap expansion have made it more attractive to institutional investors.

He noted that as Bitcoin's price climbs, more institutional capital is likely to flow into the asset. "As large pools of capital come in to buy a finite-supply asset, price should continue to go up," Pompliano said, emphasizing Bitcoin's limited supply as a key driver of its long-term value.
Despite its recent volatility, Pompliano's outlook underscores the growing institutional acceptance of Bitcoin and its potential to achieve greater heights as a premier digital asset.

On paper, Joshua's situation looks tight. With $1,800 in credit card debt and $4,000 in collections, plus a family of five to support, his question wasn't unreasonable. But Dave Ramsey and co-host Rachel Cruze didn't sugarcoat their advice.
"Absolutely, you need a job," Dave said point-blank. Joshua, currently in school full-time, explained he was studying business administration with a focus on project management. His plan was to complete his degree without working for the next four years. Meanwhile, his wife stays home with their three young kids, including a newborn.

Many investors agree&nbsp;that it&rsquo;s&nbsp;wise to &ldquo;sell in May and go away.&rdquo; This age-old Wall Street adage stems from the observation that stock market returns tend to be weaker during the summer months (May through October) compared to the winter months (November through April).&nbsp;This phenomenon is sometimes&nbsp;referred to as&nbsp;the &ldquo;Halloween indicator&rdquo; or the &ldquo;sell in May and go away&rdquo; effect. It suggests that investors should&nbsp;then&nbsp;return in November and continue the cycle.



Historically, this strategy has outperformed the buy-and-hold approach by slight margins.&nbsp;However, since 2020, this wisdom has applied less and less. Selling in May would likely cost you much more in fees and taxes than if you&nbsp;simply&nbsp;held through.&nbsp;In my view,&nbsp;this&nbsp;doesn&rsquo;t necessarily mean there aren&rsquo;t stocks you can profitably sell or short in May.



Many struggling businesses are unlikely to make it out once the storm clears. Selling or shorting such companies is a prudent idea this month. The&nbsp;key&nbsp;difference is that you should sell and never&nbsp;come back&nbsp;to these stocks again. Let&rsquo;s take a look at the seven stocks to sell.



<h2>Bitcoin Depot Inc. (BTM)</h2>



<a href="https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/coin-money-bitcoin.jpeg"><img width="300" height="169" src="https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/coin-money-bitcoin-300x169.jpeg" alt="blockchain technology stocks"></a>Bitcoin Depot&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/btm-stock-quote/">BTM</a>) underlying trends give me pause about the company&rsquo;s future. Wild swings in Bitcoin&rsquo;s (<a href="https://investorplace.com/cryptocurrency/btc-usd/">BTC-USD</a>) price can seriously impact transaction volumes and the profitability of crypto miners.&nbsp;However,&nbsp;you&rsquo;d think that&nbsp;the recent bull run would&rsquo;ve caused at least some&nbsp;level of&nbsp;top-line growth and profits for the past quarters. But revenue is still flat, with margins deeply in the red.

Analysts expect revenue could decline over 10% this year for Bitcoin Depot despite Bitcoin reaching an all-time high. The worst thing is that all Bitcoin ATMs have fees that are way too high and still require KYC.&nbsp;Why use them when you can&nbsp;just&nbsp;use an exchange and wire money directly to your bank?



<h2>AMC Entertainment (AMC)</h2>

APE stock"></a>AMC&rsquo;s (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/amc-stock-quote/">AMC</a>) potential movie theatre comeback has been greatly exaggerated, even with high-profile blockbusters on the schedule. They did beat EPS by 19.6% in Q1 and met revenue expectations. However, the <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/news/4103715-amc-stock-sinks-after-theatre-chain-warns-of-weaker-second-quarter">weaker Q2 guidance</a> should not at all&nbsp;be underestimated. Revenue fell by 0.3%, and earnings are still red. Their traditional business model&nbsp;clearly&nbsp;faces an uphill battle competing with on-demand options.



AMC is making desperate moves, like hyping their popcorn brand and crypto offerings,&nbsp;just&nbsp;to stay relevant.&nbsp;With debt weighing them down and expenses rising,&nbsp;I estimate&nbsp;AMC could run into serious cash flow problems soon should trends fail to turn around.&nbsp;The &ldquo;apes&rdquo; may finally be waking up to these realities.



Rate cuts will lower losses. But when megatrends in the entertainment industry act as headwinds, it would be wise to put those dollars into more forward-thinking entertainment plays built for the future rather than this fading meme stock.



<h2>ChargePoint (CHPT)</h2>

While they&nbsp;do&nbsp;have&nbsp;a very big&nbsp;market share in the industry, CHPT could hit a &ldquo;growth ceiling.&rdquo; I am bullish on the EV charging space. However, it is abundantly clear that EVs will take much longer than expected to dominate the road. This makes me believe it is one of the stocks to sell in May.

At that point, investors may be better off rotating to more established EV options, generating profits today instead of chasing future potential. Growth has limits, so stability and cash flows will matter more. Analysts <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/CHPT/earnings/estimates">expect just 8.2% revenue growth</a> this year. They still expect sales growth to be around 20-25% annually on average for the next decade. But, given the -81.8% net margin that ended up going down another 58.9% year-over-year (YOY), holding CHPT will only bring more pain.



<h2>Appen Limited (APXYY)</h2>

Losing that <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/01/23/alphabet-ends-contract-with-appen-which-trained-bard-google-search.html">$82.8 million Google contract</a> signals that tech heavyweights may increasingly want to control more aspects of data work in-house rather than relying on outside vendors like Appen Limited. This sting is going to linger for a long time.



AI can do&nbsp;a lot of&nbsp;jobs on its own these days. So outsourcing labor through contracts makes much less sense for big companies.&nbsp;And, if you&rsquo;ve read the news recently, you&rsquo;d know that <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/01/google-cuts-hundreds-of-core-workers-moves-jobs-to-india-mexico.html">Google is hiring&nbsp;from India and Mexico</a>&nbsp;now&nbsp;instead of relying on third parties.



Analysts expect Appen Limited&rsquo;s revenue growth will slow to mid-single digits in the years ahead as their legacy work flounders. As exciting as generative AI is, investors may want to put their money behind the companies pioneering the core technologies rather than auxiliary service providers getting edged out. I don&rsquo;t think cost-cutting will lead to a rebound if this &ldquo;AI&rdquo; company can&rsquo;t grow its top line.



<h2>The Beachbody Company (BODI)</h2>

Management may be patting themselves on the back for cost-cutting. But&nbsp;the reality is,&nbsp;their top line continues crumbling as consumers flee the brand.&nbsp;They need to win customers back, and I&nbsp;don&rsquo;t see&nbsp;a real plan&nbsp;to do that.



Pivoting to subscriptions is also risky. If customer churn surges, as feared, recurring revenue will plummet. Analysts expect&nbsp;exactly&nbsp;that, with <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/BODI/earnings/estimates">revenue expected to decline 17.3%</a> in 2024.

It has many red flags even after the cost-cutting measures. Its <a href="https://www.gurufocus.com/term/zscore/BODI">Altman-Z score of -2.86</a> puts it in the distress zone, while revenue has&nbsp;been falling&nbsp;consistently since 2021. It is definitely one of the top stocks to sell in May.



<h2>Comscore (SCOR)</h2>



<div><img width="300" height="169" src="https://investorplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/socialmedia1600b-300x169.jpg" alt=""><div>Source: Shutterstock</div></div>Comscore (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/scor-stock-quote/">SCOR</a>) is a media measurement and analytics company.&nbsp;One look at its <a href="https://www.gurufocus.com/stock/SCOR/financials">financials</a>, and you&rsquo;ll quickly realize a lot&nbsp;is going wrong.&nbsp;Its top line has stagnated for nearly a decade, and it has made losses&nbsp;every single year&nbsp;since 2010. Investors would be&nbsp;more than&nbsp;happy&nbsp;to still buy the stock, but they need to show growth to justify those losses. That isn&rsquo;t the case here. Thus, the stock is down 93% in the past five years.



It has slowly narrowed its losses over the past few quarters. However, its net margin is nearly -30%. It will likely take years for this company to break even and&nbsp;start growing&nbsp;its revenue again (if ever).



<h2>Terran Orbital (LLAP)</h2>

But my sentiment has completely changed due to some personal experiences and recent news.&nbsp;Management&nbsp;actually&nbsp;reached out to me a few months&nbsp;back&nbsp;for a private interview session with their chief executive officer (CEO).&nbsp;However, I made a counter-proposal&nbsp;to&nbsp;just&nbsp;ask them&nbsp;some&nbsp;questions that I felt would help provide more clarity for readers.



I asked about recent contract wins, deliveries and future targets to give a better sense of the growth trajectory.&nbsp;Also, I queried about the outlook for achieving profitability&nbsp;and positive&nbsp;cash flow,&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;expanding margins &ndash;&nbsp;key&nbsp;issues given the current losses. Unfortunately, I never received a reply, despite them reaching out to me for the questions.



While my personal experience does not entirely determine my investment view, LLAP&rsquo;s decision not to participate in an earnings call for Q4 raises red flags. They&rsquo;ve missed revenue estimates by significant margins for the past four quarters. Most concerning is the net margin, which sits at a <a href="https://www.google.com/finance/quote/LLAP:NYSE">massive negative of -135.6%</a>, down 31.2% in Q4 alone.&nbsp;Clearly,&nbsp;things&nbsp;are not&nbsp;trending in the right direction.&nbsp;Given the lack of transparency and poor fundamentals, LLAP is&nbsp;definitely&nbsp;not a stock I would feel comfortable buying&nbsp;at this time.&nbsp;In fact,&nbsp;it looks like a prime candidate regarding stocks to sell in May.

Curious about my chances of being replaced by an artificial intelligence chatbot, I went ahead and asked ChatGPT 3.5, Microsoft Copilot, and Google Gemini to give me examples of stocks with poor ratings or sell signals. Both Gemini and ChatGPT gave me non-answers, explaining that I should do my research and what common pitfalls to look out for. Copilot, on the other hand, yielded some interesting examples. Thus, this article will focus on three <a href="https://investorplace.com/industries/technology/artificial-intelligence/">AI stocks</a> to sell according to AI analysis from Microsoft (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/msft-stock-quote/">MSFT</a>).



Whether or not that is a conflict of interest is unclear to me, however, judging by the AI&rsquo;s results, I&rsquo;m relieved I won&rsquo;t lose my job too soon. That&rsquo;s because the free version of Copilot only gave me a sentence to describe one issue with each of the following stocks. While that issue may be valid, it&rsquo;s hardly enough evidence to back up a &ldquo;sell&rdquo; recommendation.



<h2>Appen (APXYY)</h2>

Additionally, some analysts believe its business model may be outdated. Performance: Notable underperformance in recent times.&rdquo;



Appen issued <a href="https://www.fool.com.au/2023/06/15/appen-share-price-tumbles-11-as-16-million-new-shares-hit-the-market/">16 million new shares</a> in June 2023. The issue of diluting shares by releasing too many can be a tremendous signal for offloading a stock, but let&rsquo;s look deeper into the underperformance claim. The company&rsquo;s stated mission is that it aims to make <a href="https://www.appen.com/optimize-llms">AI a force for good</a>. Appen also markets itself as a constantly learning group of people, just like an AI is.



Unfortunately, the reality for Appen is that its business model of selling custom datasets to large language model developers has not proven profitable. A competitive moat is lacking, and sales growth has been a struggle. Performance: Investors should approach with caution.&rdquo;&nbsp;



The company offers a suite of cloud-based software solutions designed to streamline financial processes and enhance efficiency for organizations. Furthermore, its Financial Close Management platform helps organizations automate and manage the entire financial closing process. This includes tasks such as reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.



From a product standpoint, the company offers machine-learning solutions for <a href="https://www.blackline.com/solutions/financial-close/smart-close/">custom integration with enterprise resource planning</a> software. This business model has generous potential in a future where AI continues to improve and Blackline&rsquo;s <a href="https://investors.blackline.com/news-releases/news-release-details/blackline-announces-first-quarter-financial-results-7">first-quarter financial results</a> reflect healthy growth as a result, with revenue of $149.5 million up from $130.6 million a year ago.



As such, I do not agree with Copilot&rsquo;s assertion that this stock is a sell. Rather, its outlook seems mixed and I believe it deserves a <a href="https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/bl/forecast">hold rating</a> for now.



<h2>Veritone (VERI)</h2>

Its struggle for sales growth has affected investor confidence. Performance: Veritone&rsquo;s stock has faced challenges.&rdquo; Interestingly, Copilot uses a term coined by <a href="https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/05/economicmoat.asp">Warren Buffett</a>. However, I am curious about what qualifies as a competitive moat to an AI.



Veritone&rsquo;s first-quarter financials seem subpar, keeping with its trend of <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/veritone-inc-veri-reports-q1-232004148.html?">underwhelming earnings-per-share</a> for the last four quarters. Revenue was <a href="https://d1io3yog0oux5.cloudfront.net/_3d8105bfb671e3d83661c4cbe8bf8acc/veritone/db/2247/21176/file/VERI+1Q24+Investor+Presentation+%285-7-24%29_vfinal.pdf">$31.6 million</a>, down 7.6% from the prior quarter but up 5% from a year ago. Net losses came in at $25.1 million, which represented a 7% increase from last year.



From the perspective of competitive edge, the relatively nascent nature of AI products and custom machine-learning software means that it&rsquo;s hard to tell where Veritone stands among its peers. However, its current pricing around $2.80 is a fair valuation when considering the current oversaturation of AI products. As such, VERI may not be the best value for money as far as investments go.
