Southland Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SLND#NYSE">SLND</a>) ("Southland") announced today that Red River Biosolids Partners General Partnership, a joint venture comprised of a Southland subsidiary, Oscar Renda Contracting of Canada Inc., Aecon Group Inc. (TSX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ARE#TSX">ARE</a>), and MWH Constructors Canada Ltd. has executed a contract with the City of Winnipeg to deliver the Winnipeg North End Sewage Treatment Plant ("NEWPCC") Biosolids Facilities Upgrade project under a Progressive Design-Build contract model.
The collaborative project begins with a development phase contract valued at approximately $70 million USD to advance design and finalize the scope and cost of various elements of the project. Southland holds a 33.3% share of the development phase contract which will be added to its backlog in the third quarter of 2024. Upon successful completion of this phase, the implementation phase will begin to finalize the design and execute construction.
The scope of work includes the design and construction of a new biosolids facility, as well as modifications to the existing primary clarification. NEWPCC provides 70% of Winnipeg's wastewater treatment capacity and is the largest sewage treatment plant in the city. Southland is also currently working with Aecon and the City of Winnipeg to deliver the NEWPCC Headworks Facilities Upgrade project.

Marex Group plc, the diversified global financial services platform, today announces that it has agreed to acquire Aarna Capital Limited ("Aarna Capital") to expand its operations in the Middle East and grow its clearing business, in line with its strategy to broaden its client base, diversify its operations and increase earnings resilience. &nbsp;
Based in Abu Dhabi, Aarna Capital provides clearing, execution and customised risk management solutions in energy, base and ferrous metals, as well as financial markets such as equities, fixed income and FX.
The acquisition of Aarna Capital will provide Marex with additional capabilities in a new location and access to around 180 local clients, which includes institutional investors, family offices and corporate clients, through a well-established and respected team. The acquisition will be highly complementary to Marex's existing operations in the Middle East, which includes approximately 60 employees in Dubai, and is aligned with Marex's strategy to bring new clients to its platform, increase the capabilities it can offer existing clients, and grow its global footprint.
The transaction is expected to be accretive to earnings and contribute around five percent of Marex Group's profit after tax from fiscal year ended 31 December 2025 onwards. This includes anticipated day one synergies from Aarna Capital's business activity flowing through the Marex platform, with savings from internalising clearing fees and higher net interest income through Marex's financing relationships. In addition, Marex has identified significant scope for future growth by adding new clients in the Middle East through these additional capabilities and from cross-selling Aarna Capital's products to existing clients. This acquisition is expected to close in late 2024, subject to regulatory approval.

U.S. Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly And Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) is riding high on the popularity of weight loss drugs and is on the brink of becoming the world's first trillion-dollar pharmaceutical company.
According to data from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/feature/newsfeed" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>, the company's market cap stood at $796.4 billion, and its enterprise value at $821.9 billion.
The stock had almost doubled since May 2022 and outpaced S&amp;P500 and NASDAQ when the company received FDA approval for Mounjaro (tirzepatide) as an adjunct to diet and exercise <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/22/05/27213975/fda-approves-eli-lillys-new-type-2-diabetes-treatment-tirzepatide" rel="noreferrer noopener">for type 2 diabetes</a>.

In the late 2000s, the loss of patents on its psychiatric drugs, including Prozac and Cymbalta, pushed the company near all-time lows.

However, the company's fortunes have since reversed, with Eli Lilly now investing $20 billion in production facilities to meet the growing demand for its blockbuster drugs, and it is trying to stay ahead of its close competitor Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>).
The company is also developing orforglipron, which could be the first small-molecule weight-loss pill when it launches in 2026, giving Eli Lilly a two-year lead before rivals catch up.
However, investors are cautious, noting that Eli Lilly's valuation is lofty, currently at $842 billion, 54x projected earnings over the next 12 months.
A top-10 shareholder of Eli Lilly told the Financial Times that investors are rushing into Eli Lilly, pushing it higher, but it's already priced for perfection. The shareholder warned that investors could face significant risks if concerns arise about competition from the ten other companies with weight-loss drugs or potential pricing pressures.
The company aims to strengthen its standing as one of the top 10 most valuable firms in the U.S. by outpacing its competitors.
Eli Lilly plans to reinvest its revenues into R&amp;D, aiming to escape the pharmaceutical industry's traditional boom-and-bust cycle.
CEO Ricks says the company is preparing for the future, particularly as it nears a "patent cliff" for its weight-loss drugs in the mid-2030s. By then, competition and pricing pressure could significantly affect profits.
The company is working on new treatments for obesity-related conditions, such as sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease, which could secure broader insurance coverage for its drugs.

U.S. stock futures are slipping early Wednesday after <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/broad-u-s-equity-etfs/24/10/41129967/market-sells-off-over-irans-attack-on-israel-port-strikes-hurricane-helene-national-se">Middle East tensions </a>and the impact of Hurricane Helene set off worries and dragged the major indices in the previous session. These added concerns sapped risk appetite that was on the wane amid the overbought levels of the market, lingering economic uncertainties, and the looming presidential election and third-quarter reporting season. On Wednesday, traders may keep a close eye on ADP&#8217;s private payrolls report, often considered a precursor to Friday&#8217;s non-farm payrolls report, due ahead of the market open, as well as comments by Federal Reserve officials.

In premarket trading on Wednesday, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) moved down 0.17% to $567.63 and the Invesco QQQ ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>) slipped 0.16% to $480.48, according to <a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/lxquj26b2sag" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro data</a>.
Cues From Last Session:
Wall Street pulled back sharply on Tuesday as traders reacted negatively to Iran&#8217;s missile attack on Israel, the start of a dockworkers&#8217; strike that would handicap half of the country&#8217;s shipping and the impact of Hurricane Helene, which unleashed its fury over the Southeastern states. To make matters worse, the Institute for Supply Management&#8217;s manufacturing purchasing managers&#8217; index contracted by more than expected.
On a positive note, job openings came in at a better-than-expected 8 million in August, the Labor Department said.
The averages opened lower and languished below the unchanged line throughout the session before closing sharply lower. All but energy, utility and communication services stocks, closed lower, with IT stock coming in for a sound thrashing.

Insights From Analysts:
October is a seasonally strong month but it often starts slow before picking up momentum as the third-quarter earnings announcements begin to drop, said fund manager Louis Navellier. &#8220;I am expecting that the second half of October will be stronger than the first half,&#8221; he said. The fund manager expects fundamentally superior stocks to benefit from earnings surprises.
Further ahead into November, the next president would have been elected and the Fed will cut interest rates again, he said. He expects consumer sentiment to improve with most of the economic and political uncertainty removed.

Crude oil futures rose over 3% amid the Middle East tensions, while gold futures fell moderately. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) plunged over 3.75% and traded under $61.5K. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose 2.1 points to 3.764%.
Most Asian markets that were open for trading ended lower amid the multiple downside triggers, although the Hong Kong market, which reopened after Tuesday&#8217;s public holiday, soared. The Chinese, Indian and Taiwanese markets remained closed for public holidays.
European stocks traded in the red in early trading.
