Visa Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/V#NYSE">V</a>) has successfully leveraged artificial intelligence and machine learning to prevent $40 billion in fraudulent activities, according to a company executive.
What Happened: James Mirfin, global head of risk and identity solutions at Visa, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/07/26/ai-and-machine-learning-helped-visa-combat-40-billion-in-fraud-activity.html">informed</a> CNBC that the company has utilized AI and machine learning to combat fraudulent activities, which have nearly doubled from the previous year.
Visa has managed to prevent $40 billion in fraudulent activities from October 2022 to September 2023, which is almost twice the amount from the previous year, Mirfin said.
He explained that fraudsters use AI to generate primary account numbers (PAN) and repeatedly test them. This method, known as an enumeration attack, results in $1.1 billion in fraud losses annually.
&#8220;We look at over 500 different attributes around [each] transaction, we score that and we create a score –that&#8217;s an AI model that will actually do that. We do about 300 billion transactions a year,&#8221; Mirfin told CNBC.
Visa assigns a real-time risk score to each transaction to detect and prevent enumeration attacks in transactions processed remotely without a physical card via a card reader or terminal.

&#8220;Every single one of those [transactions] has been processed by AI. It&#8217;s looking at a range of different attributes and we&#8217;re evaluating every single transaction,&#8221; Mirfin said.
Visa also uses AI to assess the likelihood of fraud for token provisioning requests and has invested $10 billion in technology to reduce fraud and increase network security over the last five years.

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz Announces Over 97% Of Windows Sensors Back Online After Global Outage

Canadian medical cannabis company Aurora Cannabis Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ACB#NASDAQ">ACB</a>) (TSX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ACB#TSX">ACB</a>) has been granted two licenses by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) under Germany&#8217;s new Medical Cannabis Act (MedCanG).
The company said on Thursday the license grants it continued domestic cultivation, which has been underway for two years now.
Under the new license, the Canadian medical cannabis giant may also cultivate an approved additional product, with plans to expand its offerings to the rapidly growing German patient base.
Additionally, the company said it will also receive a dedicated R&amp;D license, allowing for the trial of up to seven additional novel cultivars at the company&#8217;s local EU GMP facility in Leuna, Germany, which has been operational since 2021.

Aurora Ramps Up Medical Cannabis Production In Germany With Enhanced Licenses To Expand Portfolio

A recent study by Illinois&#8217;s Cannabis Regulation Oversight Office reported that 60% of adult-use marijuana business licenses have been granted to minority- or women-owned businesses. 
This study followed the opening of the 100th social equity-owned marijuana store in the state. Pritzker praised the careful planning behind Illinois' legalization policy, describing it as a model of &#8220;common-sense equity-focused cannabis policy.&#8221;
He also contrasted Illinois's approach with other states: "We wanted to start from the very beginning, trying to get it right."
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Economic Impact</h3>
Illinois's cannabis industry has shown significant economic success, generating nearly $2 billion in sales in 2023. A notable portion of these sales is attributed to out-of-state visitors from states where cannabis remains illegal. 
Pritzker humorously commented on the phenomenon of "cannabis tourists" from neighboring states: "People from Indiana, people from Iowa, people from Wisconsin, Kentucky, drive across the border and buy something in a dispensary in Illinois. Now, they're not supposed to drive back over the border to their home states, so I assume they're just staying in Illinois."
Looking forward, Pritzker stressed the importance of federal legalization to ensure broader equity in the cannabis market. "Equity demands that we go at this at the federal level," he stated.

Trump VP Choice JD Vance Is A Tech-Bro Pick, Says Paul Krugman — Same People Last Year Were Infatuated With Robert Kennedy Jr.

A new study by a UK-based research group, Drug Science, suggests that medical marijuana could help treat suicidal ideation.
The researchers assessed about 4000 patients at the beginning of the study, but observational data was available for 2,112 patients at three months, and 777 patients for 12 months. The goal of the study was to observe the prevalence and correlates of suicidal ideation among individuals seeking medical marijuana based products, according to the <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13811118.2024.2356615?ref=little-big-world.ghost.io">paper</a> published Wednesday in Archives of Suicide Research.
Some 25% of the sample confirmed suicidal ideation at treatment entry and were assessed to have depression and poor overall health. Their quality of life was lower and they had more trouble sleeping. Self-reported depressed mood and suicidal ideation were assessed using items from the patient health questionnaire-9.
After three months of treatment, the prevalence of suicidal ideation dropped from 23.6% to 17.6%. This means that the number of people reporting suicidal thoughts dropped by 25.4% after just three months of treatment with medical marijuana.
Furthermore, depression levels improved significantly over the year, especially for those who had suicidal thoughts at the start. Participants with suicidal thoughts, improved their depression scores by 42%, compared to 37% for those without ideation.

This study does not align with some of the previous findings that suggest cannabis users are more likely to have suicidal ideation. However, it could be that previous studies didn't differentiate between correlation and causation, meaning it has not been concluded if cannabis use causes suicidal thoughts, or if people with such thoughts are more prone to use cannabis.
The Drug Science study suggests that people who feel suicidal are more likely to seek medical marijuana, <a href="https://little-big-world.ghost.io/this-week-in-weed-mystery-cannabinoids-a-dea-record-and-promising-research-about-cannabis-and-suicidal-thoughts/">writes</a> Indispensable's Hannah Harris Green. Additionally, the research suggests that once they are given access to medical marijuana, they might get relief from such symptoms.
Furthermore, previous data have shown that cannabis legalization <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/21/11/23821385/study-cannabis-legalization-reduces-suicide-rates-among-middle-aged-males">reduces suicide rates among middle-aged males</a>. "Critics of marijuana legalization point to studies showing correlations between heavy cannabis use and suicide, depression, and mental health disorders. However, such studies that demonstrate correlation have yet to confirm causation, which should be determined by a model's ability to predict," reads the <a href="https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.09.25.20201848v2.full.pdf">study</a> published in 2021.

The initial public offering target for Bill Ackman&#8216;s U.S. investment fund, Pershing Square USA, has been drastically reduced by as much as 90%. This comes as the CEO&#8217;s comments are disavowed by the fund.
What Happened: Ackman, a prominent billionaire hedge fund manager, has cut the fundraising goal for the IPO of his U.S. investment fund, Pershing Square USA, by up to 90%, the Financial Times <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/c4b4f63e-81cc-4902-874c-75a1a0baa28c">reported</a> on Thursday. The initial target of $25 billion has been significantly reduced.
In a letter filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Ackman stated that he anticipates raising between $2.5 billion and $4 billion, with the possibility of increasing to $10 billion based on marketing efforts.
In a letter to investors in his Pershing Square holding company sent on Wednesday, Ackman urged, &#8220;This is a moment when you can be very helpful to Pershing Square by participating in the PSUS offering and giving your order to the banks, the sooner the better.&#8221;

In the past 24 hours, 58,130 traders were liquidated, as the total liquidations came in at $226.26 million. Ethereum led the wipeout with more than $84 million in liquidations.
The Long/Short Ratio lent credence to the above observation, showing a jump in bullish bets on the cryptocurrency against bearish bets.

The company's gross profit and operating profit grew 5.7% and 19.2% from a year-ago quarter to ¥548.08 billion ($3.67 billion) and ¥115.99 billion ($777.70 million), respectively.
As of December 31, 2023, the company's net cash provided by operating activities amounted to ¥451.19 billion ($3.03 billion), compared to ¥262.60 billion ($1.76 billion) as of December 31, 2022.
For the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, CAJPY projects net sales of ¥4.35 trillion ($29,17 billion), an operating profit of ¥435 billion ($2.92 billion), and net income attributable to CAJPY of ¥305 billion ($2.04 billion).
Street anticipates CAJPY's revenue to surge by 159.1% year-over-year to $29.28 billion for the fiscal year 2024. The stock has gained 21% over the past six months and 37.7% over the past year to close the last trading session at $29.65.

In the fourth quarter, which ended December 31, 2023, AUOTY's total revenue amounted to NT$63.35 billion ($2 billion). Its gross profit stood at NT$2.13 billion ($67.37 million), with a gross margin of 3.4%. Additionally, the company reported an EBITDA of NT$3.85 billion ($121.48 million), along with an EBITDA margin of 5.4%.
Analysts anticipate AUOTY's revenue to rise by 10% year-over-year to $8.71 billion for the fiscal year ending December 2024. Moreover, the company surpassed consensus EPS estimates in three of the trailing four quarters.

Top 4 Tech Innovators to Supercharge Your Investments

Many high-flying <a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-types/growth-stocks/">growth stocks</a> crashed back to earth when the 2021 boom cooled off. Companies that weren&rsquo;t consistently crushing earnings estimates got caught in the broader market downdraft. But while the overall market has rebounded, not all boats rose on the incoming tide. A handful of stalwarts, dubbed the &ldquo;Magnificent 7,&rdquo; have propelled the recovery.



However, I believe several beaten-down growth stocks with staying power are poised to recapture their former glory &ndash; and then some.



With up to three potential rate cuts on the horizon this year, we could see a catalyst emerge to reignite many of these beaten-down growth stocks. The gears are already in motion. With this optimistic outlook, here are seven beaten-down growth stocks to consider before they leave the station:



<h2>Beaten-Down Growth Stocks: Auo Corporation (AUOTY)</h2>

There&rsquo;s no need to explain the megatrend here &ndash; almost everyone is glued to their screens these days, whether it&rsquo;s their phone, TV, computer, or some ad on the street. Screens are only going to proliferate as time goes on.



However, AUOTY&rsquo;s stock performance hasn&rsquo;t been stellar over the past few years. The stock went parabolic during 2021&rsquo;s boom but has since declined over 60% from that peak. I believe Auo Corporation is likely starting to bottom out and poised for a turnaround in the coming months as the financials have been improving. Revenue is <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AUOTY/earnings/estimates">expected to grow at 10% this year</a>, and while the company did slip into loss-making territory, it has a solid $2.75 billion cash buffer against $3.95 billion in debt.



As interest rates come down and companies restart their stocking cycles, we could see Auo&rsquo;s growth restart as well. This restart might take more than just a few quarters, but I believe significant margin expansion is possible here in the long run. The display megatrend isn&rsquo;t going away, and a well-capitalized player like Auo could be a prime beneficiary as conditions improve.



<h2>Airgain (AIRG)</h2>

Bank stocks"><div>Source: shutterstock.com/CC7</div></div>Airgain&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/airg-stock-quote/">AIRG</a>) is a very small company, but that also means there&rsquo;s a good opportunity for investors to realize significant returns if this stock takes off. The company provides wireless connectivity technologies, to the public safety sector (law enforcement, fire department, etc.) among its major customers. I believe there&rsquo;s significant growth potential ahead, and the stock can deliver big gains &ndash; it&rsquo;s down 80% from its peak but is slowly making a turnaround, already up 218% from its trough.



I believe AIRG can climb much higher as its financials improve. Analysts expect the company to emerge from its loss-making cycle, posting just <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/AIRG/earnings/estimates">6 cents in losses per share in 2024</a> before hitting profitability next year. Revenue growth is also expected to reaccelerate from 12% this year to 25% in 2024. Moreover, the company has nearly $8 million in cash against just $1.5 million in debt &ndash; a relatively clean balance sheet for a small startup.



The stock should appreciate significantly once AIRG hits profitability and starts to expand margins with that 25%-plus top-line growth. You rarely find startups of this size that are profitable and have negligible debt, so AIRG could be a compelling opportunity if it can execute on expectations.



<h2>PAR Technology (PAR)</h2>

However, I wouldn&rsquo;t consider this one too beaten down, as it simply returned to its pre-Covid growth trajectory. Still, I believe the stock remains undervalued, as there&rsquo;s significant growth ahead that Wall Street hasn&rsquo;t priced in yet.



Analysts expect PAR Technology to nearly break even in 2025 along with annual <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/PAR/earnings/estimates">revenue growth hovering around 10-15% going forward</a>. The company provides omnichannel cloud-based hardware and software solutions, and paying just 3 times forward sales is pretty cheap for any cloud software stock. Once PAR hits profitability and starts to significantly expand those margins, I believe much more upside is in the cards in the years ahead.



As SeekingAlpha contributor Creative Capital Ideas <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/article/4678675-par-technology-growth-outlook-has-gotten-more-robust">points out</a>, the acquisition of Stuzo allows PAR to capitalize on the fast-growing convenience store segment, while the potential TASK acquisition expands international exposure and TAM opportunities. Recent results show strong performance, with total ARR growing 23% year-over-year and increased adoption across the product portfolio. If PAR can build on this momentum, the stock could have plenty of room to run from current levels.



<h2>VerifyMe (VRME)</h2>

Not only does this help customers identify authentic products, but it also protects companies from counterfeiters. You may not have much experience with counterfeit products, but if you shop online often or live in a developing country, they&rsquo;re everywhere &ndash; combating counterfeits is becoming an industry of its own.



VRME is still pretty small, with a market cap of just $13.6 million. It&rsquo;s still a loss-making company, and the stock&rsquo;s long-term trajectory isn&rsquo;t very pretty &ndash; you&rsquo;ll rarely find a small startup with a pristine chart these days. However, the days of significant dilution and cash burn seem to be over. Analysts expect the company to <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/VRME/earnings/estimates">break even in 2026</a> as losses halve in 2024 and again in 2025. It can then expand margins with double-digit top-line growth. Trading at just 0.5 times forward sales, VRME seems very undervalued right now.



<h2>Frontier Group (ULCC)</h2>

You could loosely consider it the Ryanair of the Western Hemisphere, though Frontier&rsquo;s flights are still pricier than the European ultra-low-cost carrier. Regardless, Frontier&rsquo;s financials are looking rosy after years of decline &ndash; the stock is turning the corner, up 31% year-to-date.



The guidance has been very promising, with expectations for <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/ULCC/earnings/estimates">EPS to surge from 48 cents in 2024 to $1.64 in 2026</a>, alongside revenue growth averaging around 15% annually. Yet the stock changes hands at just 4 times 2026 earnings, which makes it very cheap. If those expectations are met, ULCC could easily deliver multibagger returns from here.



The big issue is Frontier&rsquo;s $3.46 billion debt load against $609 million in cash. Most airline companies are saddled with big debts due to pandemic ripple effects. However, this debt will matter less and could actually boost profitability once rates decline and interest expenses come down. It is one of the best beaten-down growth stocks to buy, in my opinion.



<h2>InfuSystem (INFU)</h2>

It&rsquo;s not the usual biopharma play whose fate hinges on FDA approvals, but rather a leading &ldquo;provider of infusion pumps and related services to hospitals, oncology practices, surgery centers, and other alternate care providers.&rdquo; An infusion pump delivers fluids like nutrients and medications into patients&rsquo; bodies in controlled amounts &ndash; the usage of these devices is widespread and increasing.



As such, InfuSystem could see significant margin expansion. Analyst EPS expectations are very positive, with estimates surging from <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/INFU/earnings/estimates">18 cents in 2024 to 41 cents in 2025</a> alongside high single-digit revenue growth. INFU&rsquo;s biomed and wound care businesses are expected to drive growth in 2024. This high revenue growth is lifting the company&rsquo;s profitability substantially &ndash; InfuSystem itself is forecasting continued double-digit growth over the next several years.



<h2>PDD Holdings (PDD)</h2>

Their e-commerce segments are barely growing. Moreover, they&rsquo;ve had to compromise margins to reignite any meaningful growth in areas like the cloud by slashing prices. <a href="https://www.reuters.com/technology/chinas-alibaba-cloud-rolls-out-price-cuts-up-55-cloud-products-2024-02-29/">Alibaba cut some cloud product costs by 55%</a>. While I believe these big players will likely see a turnaround in the next few years, one company that remains under the radar despite stellar performance is PDD Holdings (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/pdd-stock-quote/">PDD</a>).



PDD&rsquo;s innovative approach to social shopping sets it apart. Their &ldquo;Bazaar&rdquo; format prioritizes conspicuous consumption and discovery feeds over traditional search models. The company operates Pinduoduo inside China and Temu outside China. Temu is the fourth most installed free app on Apple&rsquo;s App Store. For all of 2023, PDD <a href="https://www.google.com/finance/quote/PDD:NASDAQ">grew revenue and net income by 90%</a>. Analysts expect almost <a href="https://seekingalpha.com/symbol/PDD/earnings/estimates">50% growth in 2024 and 25% annual revenue growth in the years ahead</a>.



I expect this company to continue growing significantly, along with solid margin expansion. I wouldn&rsquo;t be surprised if EPS outperforms expectations substantially as it climbs alongside the torrid revenue growth.
