This visit, which could reportedly take place as early as next week, follows President Donald Trump&#8217;s controversial remarks hinting at the U.S. potentially reclaiming the Panama Canal. These comments have sparked a diplomatic spat with Panama. &#8220;The Panama Canal belongs to Panama and will continue to belong to Panama,&#8221; asserted Panama&#8217;s President, José Raúl Mulino, at the World Economic Forum earlier this week.

Marco Rubio Reportedly Set To Visit Panama Amid Trump's Canal Rhetoric

Artificial intelligence and AI agents are changing the workforce and the job market, according to a report from the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/search?q=World+Economic+Forum#:~:text=Adam%20Eckert,1%3A40%20PM">World Economic Forum.&nbsp;</a>
The Details: According to the WEF's The Future of Jobs Report 2025, 41% of employers surveyed expect to reduce the size of their workforces in the next five years, specifically in roles "where AI can replicate people's work." 
The survey's respondents expect the fastest-declining roles to include cashiers and ticket clerks, administrative assistants and executive secretaries, printing workers, accountants and auditors. The WEF primarily attributed the decline in demand for these clerical roles to AI and information processing technologies, robots and autonomous systems.

"The time is now for businesses and governments to work together, invest in skills, and build an equitable and resilient global workforce," Leopold added.&nbsp;
AI Agents: Some companies like Oracle Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ORCL#NYSE">ORCL</a>) and Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRM#NYSE">CRM</a>) are developing AI agents designed to automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks. These AI agents could contribute to some of the job displacement the WEF highlighted.

AI, AI Agents Will Create 'Unprecedented Opportunities And Profound Risks,' World Economic Forum Says

Social media followers of the president, first lady and vice president were surprised to learn that they now follow people they may not have wanted to after Donald Trump was inaugurated as<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/entertainment/25/01/43139381/how-many-people-watched-donald-trumps-2025-inauguration-spoiler-less-than-biden-four-years-ago"> president on Monday.</a>
What Happened: Users of Instagram and Facebook, which are owned by Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), have experienced several recent changes including CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing the end of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42851889/meta-ditches-fact-checking-for-community-notes-zuckerberg-says-opportunity-to-restore-free-expression">content moderation teams</a>.
Instagram and Facebook users who followed Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Jill Biden over the past several years were also surprised to find themselves now following Donald Trump, J.D. Vance and Melania Trump after Monday.
Users were quick to blame Meta Platforms and cite the potential influence of Zuckerberg, who has been cozying up to Trump in recent months. Zuckerberg attended the inauguration and Meta recently donated $1 million to the president's inauguration fund.
Some users reported they were unable to unfollow the accounts of the new political leaders, including singer Demi Lovato, as reported by <a href="https://variety.com/2025/digital/news/facebook-instagram-users-forced-trump-vance-follow-1236282155/">Variety</a>.
"I have unfollowed this guy twice today," Lovato said of the @vp account now belonging to Vance. "Shady f&#x2A;&#x2A;&#x2A;ing business meta."
Meta contends they have done nothing wrong and this is the practice done in past presidential transitions. The official accounts for @potus, @vp and @flotus have been transferred over to the new people in those roles, while keeping the same followers and the content being wiped clean and archived to other accounts.
"People were not made to automatically follow any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the president, vice president or first lady," Meta spokesperson Andy Stone <a href="https://www.threads.net/@andymstone/post/DFImiJsPblY">said </a>in a post on Threads. "Those accounts are managed by the White House so with a new administration, the content on those Pages changes."
Stone said the same changes took place when Biden took over as president for Trump in 2021. One potential difference is the ability to unfollow these particular accounts.
"It may take some time for follow and unfollow requests to go through as these accounts change hands," Stone added.
Users can follow and unfollow other accounts without any problem as of time of writing of this article.

With users upset, the question now becomes whether social media companies should have to alert users that they are now following new people or if the accounts should start over from 0.
Platform X, which is owned by Trump-ally Elon Musk, chooses to do the latter.
Followers of the @potus, @vp and @flotus accounts on X saw those accounts change names to archived accounts. Users were not forced to follow the @potus, @vp and @flotus accounts once again as they started from 0 with the new names and faces attached.

While the president has some executive tools, like the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and sections of the Trade Acts of 1930 and 1974, these measures are subject to legal constraints per law firm Buchanan Ingersoll &amp; Rooney. For instance:

It's the first week of his Presidency and the start of his administration is just about what we expected with a few surprises thrown in for good measure: new takes on energy, trade, immigration, and much more.
Let us dive into what is happening and what it all means for your money.

Contrary to the predictions of many in the financial world, Trump came out of the gate a bit softer on China. No immediate tariffs or trade wars, just an announcement that the United States trade policy will be reviewed and some suggestion and indication of what is coming down the pike.
Trump has touched on familiar themes such as immigration and border security. One hot button issue was his executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship. While the abuse of this system is real (indeed, even wealthy families use it to get dual citizenship for their kids), this fight will undoubtedly end up in the courts. Changing a constitutional clause is not exactly a walk in the park. But hey, I am sure Trump has got it all figured out.
On the border, his halt on catch and release policies is likely to boost business for companies such as GEO Group. They own jails on the United States Mexico border, and with Trump&#8217;s border policies in play, it is looking good for them.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Energy and Trade</h2>
Trump&#8217;s &#8220;drill, baby, drill&#8221; stance is music to the ears of those invested in oil and gas infrastructure. With plans to explore and produce energy on federal lands and waters, kill offshore wind leases, and remove restrictions on drilling in Alaska, the energy sector is poised for growth. We own energy royalties and non-operator ownership interests in oil wells, and every uptick in production is a win for us. One of the primary selling points with exchange-traded funds has been and continues to be low fees. In many cases, index funds and ETFs offer expense ratios that are well below those offered by competing actively managed mutual funds, a trait that matters, particularly to long-term investors.
Investors&#39; preference low-fee ETFs is on display again this year as many of 2017&#39;s top asset-gathering ETFs are low fee products with many of those funds having annual expense ratios of 0.1 percent or less. However, fees are only part of the ETF equation. Investors should also assess trading costs, such as bid/ask spreads before committing capital to a particular ETF.
&ldquo;While CFRA incorporates expense ratios in our equity and bond ETF rankings, with lower-cost offerings scoring higher than more expensive ones, this is just one factor in our analysis,&rdquo; said <a href="https://newpublic.cfraresearch.com/">CFRA Research</a> Director of ETF &amp; Mutual Fund Research Todd Rosenbluth in a note out Tuesday. &ldquo;In particular, we think investors need to pay attention to the bid/ask spread as trading costs can similarly eat into returns.&rdquo;
<h3>Low Fees, Tight Spreads</h3>
The iShares Core U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/AGG#NYSE">AGG</a>), the largest fixed income ETF trading in the U.S., is an example of a low-fee ETF with tight spreads, helping investors realize additional cost savings.
&ldquo;AGG also has one of the strongest cost factor ranking inputs, aided by its low 0.05 percent net expense ratios and $0.01 bid/ask spread,&rdquo; said Rosenbluth. &ldquo;However there are other ETFs tracking the prominent investment-grade Bloomberg Barclays Aggregate Index with both lower and higher expense ratios and trading-related costs.&rdquo;
AGG holds over 6,300 bonds and has an effective duration of 5.7 years. The ETF has a 30-day SEC yield of 2.2 percent and has seen year-to-date inflows of $6.8 billion, the second-best asset-gathering pace among all bond ETFs.
<h3>Even Cheaper</h3>
When every penny matters, there is the Schwab U.S. Aggregate Bond ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/SCHZ#NYSE">SCHZ</a>), which is slightly cheaper than the rival AGG. The $4 billion SCHZ and AGG also compete with the $1.1 billion SPDR Bloomberg Barclays Aggregate Bond ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/BNDS#NYSE">BNDS</a>).
SCHZ has a lower 0.04 percent expense ratio, while the $1.1 billion SPDR Bloomberg Barclays Aggregate Bond ETF has a higher 0.08 percent expense ratio,&rdquo; said Rosenbluth. &ldquo;Yet, CFRA thinks the higher $0.02 and $0.05 trading costs for SCHZ and BNDS, respectively, is notable particularly if an investor plans to use the ETF to periodically tactically tilt asset allocations.&rdquo;

<h3>Myth No. 1: Bearish Weekly Department Of Energy Inventories Data Have Helped Push Oil Prices Lower</h3>
While the beginning of 2017 did see unusually large inventory buildups, they were the result of a transportation lag between the Middle East producing and U.S. refineries receiving oil.
Adkins notes that OPEC was trying to ship as much oil as possible before implementing production cuts in January and that the most important data to watch is how U.S. inventories have moved since early March &mdash; a drop of about 300,000 barrels per day over four months.
<h3>Myth No. 2: Increased U.S. Shale Production Growth Will Mean $35 Per Barrel</h3>
While Adkins admits that several U.S. operators can make solid returns at $35 per barrel, that is only if costs besides drilling and completion are not included in calculations. On a full cycle basis, very few U.S. E&amp;P companies could sustain positive returns even at $50 per barrel.
The result will be the industry as a whole outspending cash flow generation unless supply is cut back, requiring that most current supply forecasts be remodeled to account for increasing pressure. Greater-than-expected cutbacks in other countries also need to be taken into account.
<h3>Myth No. 3: Demand For Gasoline Is Weakening</h3>
Earlier this year, weekly DoE reports suggested gasoline demand in the U.S. is down 4 percent year over year.
&ldquo;We do not believe that is true,&rdquo; said Adkins. &ldquo;Other data sources suggest that reported U.S. gasoline demand numbers are simply wrong!&rdquo;
Adkins cites Department of Transportation reports that miles driven are up 1.6 percent year-over-year, while fuel efficiency across the board has &ldquo;barely changed.&rdquo; He also doubts PADD 3 demand could actually have been down 15 in March as reported.
<h3>Myth No. 4: Nigeria And Libya Will Flood The Market</h3>
While Nigeria and Libya &mdash; which are not bound by the OPEC production cuts &mdash; are producing more oil than what Adkins had modeled for six months ago, he considers it only an incremental negative.
The increases only make up a maximum 300,000 barrel per day increase, versus the 1.75 million barrel per day cut Adkins forecasted in late 2017. That is, if production is even sustainable &mdash; both countries are embroiled in unpredictable military conflicts.
<h3>Myth No. 5: OPEC Production Cuts Will Have Little Effect, Be Undone In Late 2018</h3>
This year, OPEC members&rsquo; overall compliance with the stated cuts is estimated to be 96 percent, significantly better than the 85 percent Adkins modeled. Regarding the temporary lifespan of the cuts, Adkins points out that &ldquo;that&rsquo;s the whole point.&rdquo; The cuts were put in place to correct current supply levels, not create a new status quo.
Adkins also doubts OPEC can return to the huge levels of production seen in late 2016 given problems in Venezuela and a belief that Saudi Arabia was producing 500,000 barrels per day above a sustainable volume.
<h3>Myth No. 6: &lsquo;Floating Storage&rsquo; Data Suggest Deteriorating Supply/Demand Equation</h3>
The latest Bloomberg &ldquo;floating storage&rdquo; data shows global levels having recently risen 195 million barrels per day. Adkins didn&rsquo;t dispute the data, but did say it is &ldquo;not exactly reliable&rdquo; and still shows levels below March&rsquo;s. The data also excluded a 50 million barrel drop in Iran floating storage since November.
On it&rsquo;s face, the data suggest global inventories are &ldquo;bursting at the seams.&rdquo; This is &ldquo;fake news,&rdquo; as Adkins put it, and it is more likely that oil futures have shifted to open up more contango opportunities, which often use floating storage. Global capacity is still a long way away.
<h3>Myth No. 7: Crude Inventories Is The Only Weekly DoE Data Work Tracking</h3>
Adkins believes the market places too much weight on crude inventories, discounting gasoline and distillates. Since the surge of OPEC supply at the end of 2016, inventory trends for the two, in addition to crude as discussed above, have significantly improved.
Only tracking crude does not capture the full picture, which is bullish. In all, inventories have fallen contra-seasonally by about 500,000 barrels per day since February.
<h3>Myth No. 8: The U.S. Has A Huge Supply Overhang From Uncompleted Wells</h3>
Drilled-but-uncompleted wells make projecting difficult for most investors and even many energy specialists, but Adkins is confident his model has accounted for that uncertainty.
Adkins believes drawdowns on these wells, which are at an unusually high number, will only have a modest effect over the next few years. His approach suggests uncompleted well levels peaked over a year ago and have been declining.
<h3>Myth No. 9: Electric Vehicles Threaten Oil Demand In The Near Term</h3>
Adkins has no doubt electric vehicles will be a force to reckon with, just not in the near term. The cumulative effect of all electric vehicles sold in the past few years translates to only an 80,000 barrel per day reduction in demand.
Looking further, the cumulative impact through 2020 is estimated to be 270,000 barrels per day. Forecasting beyond that, Adkins says, would be &ldquo;getting into the realm of total guesswork.&rdquo; Sufficient to say though, electric vehicles will likely not pose a serious threat to oil demand before 2025.
<h3>Myth No. 10: The IEA 2018 Supply Growth Forecast Is Extremely Bearish</h3>
Similar to the floating storage numbers, Adkins has no doubt the IEA forecasts are solid. That said, interpretations of it are not. &ldquo;We took numerous calls from investors panicked that &ldquo;the IEA was forecasting that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities/17/02/8985816/americas-oil-production-could-surpass-those-of-4-opec-producers-in">supply would exceed demand</a> next year,&rdquo; said Adkins.
What the forecast really said was that supply growth would exceed demand growth, referring to rates, not volumes. Supply growth is expected to exceed demand growth by only 0.1 million barrels per day. Adkins&rsquo; model suggests the market will be undersupplied by 1.3 million barrels per day, meaning that net-net the market will still be undersupplied by 1.2 million barrels per day.
