<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Spain Unveils Framework For Prescribing Cannabis-Based Medications</h3>
Spain&#8217;s Ministry of Health revealed this week a draft royal decree for public consultation, outlining the suggested regulations for prescribing cannabis-based medications, <a href="https://businessofcannabis.com/spain-proposes-regulations-for-long-awaited-medical-cannabis-framework-but-patients-warn-it-is-too-restrictive/">reported</a> Business of Cannabis.
The news comes after years of negotiation and an increase in the legal production of medical cannabis, as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/02/36941500/spains-medical-marijuana-law-to-function-soon-first-cannabis-club-in-malta-more-euro-weed-update">earlier reported.</a>
In June 2022, the Health Committee of the Spanish Congress of Deputies initially endorsed a draft report from a subcommittee, which outlined a series of recommendations for regulating cannabis-derived medicines for therapeutic purposes.
Following a delay in the process caused by a change of government in 2023, Health Minister Monica Garcia said during her first appearance in Congress in early January, that the process of setting up a medical cannabis framework will be rebooted.

Levi Strauss Considers Dockers Sale: What This Means For The Iconic Denim Brand

Trulieve Cannabis Corp. (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TCNNF#OTC">TCNNF</a>) filed a defamation lawsuit on Wednesday, accusing the Florida Republican Party of intentionally misleading voters with a deceptive TV campaign ad against the cannabis legalization initiative, known as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/04/38034138/florida-supreme-court-approves-cannabis-legalization-proposal-for-november-election-in-blow-to-d" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Amendment 3</a> that will go before the voters this coming <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">November</a>. 
The lawsuit alleges that the ad misleads voters by falsely implying that only large cannabis companies, like Trulieve will benefit from the legalization measure, while ordinary Floridians would be prohibited from growing their own marijuana.
The ad features a gardener apparently excited by the news of marijuana legalization but is then interrupted by a character called &#8220;Big Weed,&#8221; who claims that only large corporations can legally grow cannabis under the proposed amendment.
Trulieve's legal team argues that the &#8220;Big Weed&#8221; character is a clear reference to their company, Florida's largest medical marijuana operator, which has <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/08/40486924/ken-griffins-12m-donation-and-desantiss-anti-cannabis-pacs-face-off-against-pro-legalization-gro">contributed more than $90 million</a> to the cannabis legalization campaign. The lawsuit contends that this narrative is not only false but strategically designed to deceive voters into believing that Amendment 3 would create a monopoly for already established cannabis companies.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/08/40642418/florida-cannabis-legalization-gains-momentum-64-of-likely-voters-support-amendment">has claimed that Trulieve authored</a> the amendment and is creating a "de facto monopoly&#8221; and &#8220;weed cartel.&#8221;
Trulieve's lawyers assert, <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article293383819.html">according</a> to the Miami Herald, that this claim is equally misleading, and that the amendment would actually enable the state Legislature to expand the number of licensed marijuana operators, thereby increasing competition in the market.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">GOP: Lawsuit Is &#8216;Overreaction&#8217;</h3>
Republican Party of Florida representative Anthony Power dismissed the lawsuit as an overreaction. "It's funny that a company that spends almost $100 million on a political campaign is so sensitive about honest TV ads," Power said in a statement, per the outlet. He characterized the lawsuit as an attempt to silence critics and vowed to continue opposing the measure.
In filing the lawsuit, Trulieve said it is seeking "to set the record straight, to vindicate its rights under civil law, to hold the defendants accountable for deceiving voters, and to recover compensatory and punitive damages."

Analyst Notes: Popular cryptocurrency trader Michaël van de Poppe revealed he was "heavily long" on Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market despite war fears.
"Last night, the markets corrected due to a panic reaction, but once things calmed down, markets quickly reversed back up. The bigger picture: liquidity is tremendously being added, fiat currencies devaluating, and such," Van De Poppe remarked.

New election polls show Harris might be in trouble in several key swing states.

New swing state polls from Emerson College show Harris trailing or tied with Trump in key battleground territories.
In a <a href="https://emersoncollegepolling.com/september-2024-pennsylvania-poll-trump-48-harris-48/">poll </a>of Pennsylvania voters, Trump and Harris are tied at 48% each. One of the sticking factors could be the economy with 51% of voters saying they believe Trump is the better candidate for their personal financial situation, compared to 44% who picked Harris.
In the poll, the economy was listed as the top issue for the 2024 election at 50%. Sixty percent of voters said they believe their economic situation is worse today than five years ago.
In a <a href="https://emersoncollegepolling.com/september-2024-arizona-and-north-carolina-polls-harris-and-trump-neck-and-neck-in-key-swing-states/">poll </a>of Arizona voters, Trump leads with 50% of the vote with Harris having 47% of the vote.
Similar to other states, the economy is the top issue for Arizona voters. Of those polled, 53% said they believe Trump will be better for their personal finances.
In a poll of North Carolina voters, Trump leads with 49% of the vote with Harris having 48% of the vote.
In North Carolina, the economy is the top voter issue for the 2024 election. Fifty-one percent of voters said they believe Trump would be better for their personal finances.

Why It's Important: Arizona, North Carolina and Pennsylvania are three of the key<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/swing-states"> seven swing states </a>that could decide the 2024 presidential election and have 11, 16 and 19 electoral college votes, respectively.

President Joe Biden won the 2020 election as he was able to flip several swing states from red to blue. Harris will need to hold onto several of the key swing states to win the 2024 election. The latest poll shows that Trump may be in a good position to once again become president of the U.S.

Harris In Trouble: Vice President Trails Trump In Two Key Swing States, Tied In State That Has Voted For A Democrat 7 Of Last 8 Elections

Ohio's recreational marijuana industry is gaining momentum, with sales reaching $76.3 million as of the end of September. When recreational cannabis shops <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/08/40172821/its-official-ohio-begins-recreational-cannabis-sales-on-tuesday-heres-where-and-how-you-know-the">officially opened their doors </a>this past Aug. 6, sales <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/08/40492614/smoke-much-weed-ohio-38-5m-in-first-two-weeks-of-adult-use-sales-including-medical-marijuana">zoomed to over $22.5 million</a> in the first 12 days with medical marijuana contributing an additional $16 million.
In under two months, Ohio's legal weed market has moved over 8,813 pounds of plant materials and 1.2 million units of manufactured products through the state's 124 dual-use dispensaries that cater to both medical and recreational customers.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Neighboring Michigan: A Well-Established Competitor</h1>
Though Ohio's market is moving right along after last <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/11/35664155/ohio-legalizes-cannabis-and-overwhelmingly-approves-abortion-rights">November's legalization vote</a>, Michigan's industry is chugging ahead even faster. Recreational marijuana sales, which began there in 2019 have continued to rise despite Ohio's legalization. In August, for example, Michigan's total cannabis sales <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/09/40831750/cannabis-sales-in-michigan-soar-to-295-4m-for-a-recording-breaking-august">hit a record-breaking $295.4 million</a> essentially indicating that weed vendors are retaining customers despite new competition from Ohio.
Why? "Frankly, it is still worth it for me to drive to Michigan to buy cannabis," one Ohioan from a Cleveland suburb told Benzinga. "Marijuana prices here [in Ohio] are still much higher than in Michigan. So it&#8217;s cheaper even after I pay for gas to drive both ways. "
Zach Gergich, a representative from Nectar, a dispensary in the college town of Bowling Green, Ohio, expressed optimism about Ohio's potential.
"We're five-to-10 times busier here depending on the day," Gergich <a href="https://www.13abc.com/2024/09/25/recreational-marijuana-sales-increasing-michigan-ohio/">told</a> 23ABC. "We've been crushing it up here."
Sales numbers, however, show that Ohio weed shops are not exactly crushing their competitors on the other side of the state line.

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Plenty Of Weed Money To Go Around In Both States</h1>
While Ohio's fledgling market is showing promise, Michigan's resilience suggests it won't be easy for the Buckeye State to overtake its northern neighbor anytime soon. Although for now, both states seem to have plenty of demand to meet.
"I think it's only going to get more competitive. We'll see, you know, more licenses pop up for growers and processors and stuff like that," Gergich said. "So obviously more there, more of them, you know, prices should start we hopefully should see them fall a little bit and kind of get more competitive in that range."
