Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), through its cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), disclosed the launch of AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region, with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/b42865495/aws-launches-infrastructure-region-in-thailand" rel="noreferrer noopener">planned investment of over $5 billion</a>.
The investment will enable customers to run workloads and securely store data in Thailand with reduced latency.
The new Thailand Region comprises three Availability Zones, designed for high availability with independent power, cooling, and security, connected through ultra-low-latency networks.
AWS expects the new Thailand Region to contribute approximately $10 billion to the country&#8217;s GDP and support over 11,000 full-time-equivalent jobs annually.
These roles will span construction, maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other areas within AWS&#8217;s supply chain.
The new region underscores AWS&#8217;s long-term commitment to meeting growing cloud demand in Thailand and across Asia Pacific.
The new launch expanded the global footprint to 111 Availability Zones across 35 regions, with plans to add 15 more zones and five new regions, including Mexico, New Zealand, and Saudi Arabia.
Yesterday, the company announced plans to invest $11 billion in Georgia through AWS. This investment aims to bolster infrastructure for cloud computing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42865524/amazon-aws-will-invest-at-least-11-billion-in-georgia-to-boost-ai-and-cloud-infrastructure-we-expect-to-create-more-than-550-well-paying-jobs" rel="noreferrer noopener">and artificial intelligence technologies</a>.

SpaceX first showcased the revamped engines of Starship,<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/08/40158736/spacex-ceo-elon-musk-showcases-starships-new-raptor-engine-with-more-thrust-and-less-mass-getting-cl"> dubbed Raptor 3</a>, in August. 
Raptor 3 does not require any heat shield as everything is regeneratively cooled. It is lighter and has more thrust and higher efficiency than Raptor 2, Musk then said.
"Truly, a work of art," Musk wrote about the engine while adding that the team at SpaceX put a "staggering amount of work" into it. "Getting close to the limit of known physics," Musk wrote about the engine in another post.
Why It Matters: However, Musk then also warned about future changes to the engine. 
With the new version, SpaceX has got the fundamental architecture of the engine right but there will still be "thousands of improvements" going forward, Musk said. He also noted that the induced mass of the new version of the engine, though better than the previous version, has a "lot of room for improvement."
The raptor engine is used exclusively for SpaceX's ambitious Starship launch vehicle aimed at taking people to the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42108681/spacex-shows-off-conceptual-version-of-starship-which-will-help-humans-land-back-on-moon-in-over-50-yrs">Moon and Mars</a>. Starship, which is in the testing and development phase, has had six test flights to date. The next and seventh flight test of the Starship is expected next week. 
For the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/space/25/01/42866518/spacexs-starship-7th-test-flight-delayed-says-elon-musk-now-expected-next-week"> upcoming flight test</a>, the launch vehicle will carry 10 Starlink simulators as payload which are similar in size and weight to the company&#8217;s next-generation Starlink satellites in a bid to demonstrate its capabilities in the satellite launch segment.
SpaceX is looking to catch the two-stage vehicle's booster back at the launch pad at Starbase with the launch tower's metallic arms like on its fifth test flight in October. However, in case of any safety concerns, the company will splash it down in the Gulf of Mexico, it said.
The spacecraft, meanwhile, is slated to be splashed down in the Indian Ocean on the upcoming test.

On Tuesday, January 7th, U.S. markets closed lower as strong economic data fueled fears of prolonged inflation, delaying Federal Reserve rate cuts. Rising job openings and services activity drove benchmark 10-year Treasury yields to 4.699%, the highest since April. Markets now expect the Fed to hold rates through 2025.
Economic data showed that the U.S. trade deficit widened to $78.2 billion in November, up from a revised $73.6 billion in October and aligning with market expectations. Imports grew by 3.4% to $351.6 billion, while exports increased by 2.7% to $273.4 billion.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors fell, led by losses in consumer discretionary, communication services, and tech stocks, while energy and health care gained.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.42% and closed at 42,528.36, the S&amp;P 500 closed lower by 1.11% at 5,909.00, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.89% to finish at 19,489.68.

Popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, aka MKBHD, on Tuesday, posted a video testing assisted-driving modes from multiple automakers to zero in on Tesla Inc&#8216;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) full self-driving technology (FSD) as the best among the lot.
What Happened: Brownlee tested Tesla&#8217;s FSD technology, Ford&#8217;s BlueCruise, General Motors&#8217; Supercruise, Mercedes Benz&#8217;s Drive Pilot, and BMW&#8217;s assisted driving technology between May and December 2024, and ranked them in a SABCD ranking system.
While the YouTuber ranked the systems of Ford, Mercedes, and BMW together as C-tier, he ranked GM&#8217;s BlueCruise upon testing it on the Chevrolet Silverado EV in the B-tier. 
For Tesla&#8217;s FSD, Brownlee gave it an A-tier rating after testing different versions of FSD on the company&#8217;s Model 3 sedan and its Cybertruck electric pickup.
Tesla&#8217;s FSD, he noted, works on more roads than the other four and will even try to navigate by itself out of a parking lot. The others, in comparison, work mostly only on highways. 
Why It Matters: Tesla&#8217;s FSD technology ain&#8217;t perfect either, Brownlee noted in his video. 
&#8220;It&#8217;s not perfect and it does have some room to grow and it&#8217;s a little bit skittish sometimes and it&#8217;s not always up to date with speed limits,&#8221; Brownlee said. 
The YouTuber conducted his tests in the period between May and December with different versions of the systems and the performance of each of the systems might be different today than when he tested. 
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously expressed optimism about Tesla achieving vehicle autonomy with future versions of its FSD software. Last year, he said that the company would start deploying self-driving Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in Texas and California for ride-hail in 2025. FSD, however, currently requires active driver supervision. 
Safety Probes Into FSD: In October, U.S. auto safety regulator National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41398764/nhtsa-opens-probe-into-2-4m-tesla-vehicles-after-reports-of-4-crashes-with-fsd-involved" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;2.4 million Tesla vehicles</a>&nbsp;following reports of four crashes where its&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tesla-fsd" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">full self-driving</a>&nbsp;(FSD) partial driving automation system was engaged.
The regulator then said that it had identified four crash reports in which a Tesla experienced a crash after entering an area of &#8220;reduced roadway visibility&#8221; with FSD engaged.&nbsp;The reduced visibility, the regulator said, was caused by sun glare, fog, or airborne dust.
In one of the crashes, the vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian, the regulator added.
On Tuesday, NHTSA opened another probe <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42840097/nhtsa-opens-probe-into-26-million-tesla-vehicles-after-complaint-of-crash-involving-actually-smart-summon-feature">into about 2.6 million Tesla vehicles</a> equipped with the company's full self-driving driver assistance technology following a complaint alleging that the use of its "Actually Smart Summon" feature led to a crash.
Actually Smart Summon refers to a feature that allows a user to remotely move the vehicle towards themselves or to another nearby location such as a parking lot through the company's phone app.
