On Thursday, Walmart Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>) Canada announced a substantial investment plan, committing C$6.5 billion ($3.88 billion) to its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.walmartcanada.ca/news/2025/01/30/walmart-canada-announces-landmark--6-5-billion-investment-in-its" rel="noreferrer noopener">operations over the next five years.</a>
The objective is to broaden its presence and improve service offerings throughout Canada. The funding will facilitate the development of new Supercentres, upgraded distribution centers, and technological advancements designed to enhance the customer shopping experience and optimize Walmart's operations in the country.

The C$6.5 billion investment plan includes the launch of five new Supercentres by 2027. Walmart will begin by establishing locations in Ontario and Alberta, with prominent stores in Mississauga and Oakville.
The Port Credit Supercentre is set to open in the summer of 2025, strategically positioned to serve high-traffic areas.
"This $6.5 billion investment is the largest we've made in Canada towards expanding our footprint since we first arrived here 30 years ago," said regional CEO Walmart Canada, Chile, Mexico and Central America, Gui Loureiro.
Another Oakville store, opening toward the end of 2025, will offer a comprehensive selection of items, such as fresh produce, meats, dairy products, and pharmacy services.
In addition to opening new stores, Walmart Canada is also planning to improve its supply chain. The company is set to launch its distribution center in Vaughan by spring 2025, boosting distribution efficiency and optimizing operations nationwide.
The retailer has entered into an agreement with fleet services provider Canada Cartage to buy Walmart Canada's fleet business. The development follows the completion of Walmart Canada's previous C$3.5 billion investment, which started in 2020 and involved the modernization of more than 180 stores.
Key upgrades included turning the Mississauga-Square One Supercentre into a flagship location. The ongoing expansion is expected to help maintain Walmart's competitive edge in the Canadian retail sector.
In 2024, Walmart Canada allocated almost $200 million for pay raises for frontline employees.
On the other hand, last week, Amazon.com&nbsp;Inc. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/amazon" rel="noreferrer noopener">announced that it</a> was withdrawing its operations in Quebec, Canada, and losing about 1,700 full-time jobs.
The American e-commerce giant's move followed U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to slap <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43101141/chinese-stocks-rally-after-trump-skips-tariff-threats-boosting-market-optimism" rel="noreferrer noopener">25% tariffs on</a> imports from Canada and Mexico on February 1.
Amazon has seven sites in Quebec, including sorting centers and warehouses, most of which are in the Montreal area.

Walmart Canada To Invest About $3.8 Billion Over Five Years

Shares of Mastercard Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MA#NYSE">MA</a>) came under pressure in early trading on Friday, despite the company reporting <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/01/43345282/mastercard-q4-earnings-revenue-and-eps-beat-strong-growth-in-payments-and-cross-border-transactions">upbeat fourth-quarter results</a>.
The companyreported its quarterly results amid an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">exciting earnings season</a>. Here are some key analyst takeaways.

Goldman Sachs: Mastercard reported its fourth-quarter total net revenues at around $7.489 billion. The payments company beat the consensus of $7.389 billion, up 16% year-on-year in constant currency terms. Payment Network outperformed expectations, while Value-added Services and Solutions underperformed, Nance said.
While us volume trends were largely above expectations, international volumes were mixed, the analyst stated. "Shares outperformed, which we would attribute to the stronger than expected underlying revenue guide," he further wrote.
KeyBanc Capital Markets: Mastercard reported adjusted earnings of $3.82 per share, topping Street expectations of $3.70 per share, Markgraff said. Payment Network generated revenues of $4.41 billion. That&#8217;s higher than consensus of $4.28 billion. Value-Added Services and Solutions recorded revenues of $3.08 billion, missing expectations of $3.11 billion.
"Management noted that macro conditions continue to improve, underpinned by healthy consumer spending with strong labor market conditions and moderated inflation, while remaining positive on the prospect of expected global economic expansion in 2025," the analyst wrote. Mastercard's revenues and earnings in 2025 is likely to be impacted by "substantial FX and M&amp;A-related headwinds," he further stated.
RBC Capital Markets: Mastercard's full-year net revenue guidance calls for low double-digit growth on a reported basis, versus Street expectations of 12.1%, Perlin said. "FX is expected to be a ~2% revenue headwind in the year," he added.
Trends remained strong in January, with 13% year-on-year switched volume growth and 18% year-on-year cross-border volume growth, the analyst stated. "The consumer remains healthy and incremental growth opportunities from value-added services and new payment flows stand to act as a shock-absorber to the extent the economic backdrop were to weaken," he further wrote.
Keefe, Bruyette &amp; Woods: Mastercard's US gross dollar volume (GDV) accelerated to 9% year-on-year, from the previous quarter's 7%, "driven by resilient US consumer spending as well as strength in commercial spending," Sakhrani said. Market share gains were not the main growth driver, "strategic initiatives and new partnerships played a crucial role," he added.
Spending trends are "showing signs of improvement driven by consumer strength as well as some benefit from a pickup in crypto transactions," the analyst stated. The company's fundamentals remain "solid," and "a continuation of the accelerated spending trajectory should bode well for upside potential as we move through the year," he further wrote.
Raymond James: Mastercard's quarter to date performance has been "better than feared," Davis said. US switched volume growth accelerated to 10%, given solid holiday spending trends, he added.
"Although total cross-border volume decelerated 200 bp to +18% vs. 4Q, this is related to robust December volumes (+23%) and high-teens growth is consistent with Oct/Nov trends," the analyst wrote. The company's execution was "superb," although there is downside to consensus estimates on FX and deal-related opex, he further stated.
Price Action: Shares of Mastercard had declined by 0.58% to $562.62 at the time of publication on Friday.

Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) stock originally traded higher on Friday but has since reversed and began trading lower after the company on Thursday reported 2024 fiscal-year <a href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/43354712">fourth-quarter earnings</a>.
 Intel reported sales of $14.30 billion, beating analysts estimate of $13.81 billion, but representing a 7% year-over-year decline. In addition, it reported adjusted earnings per share of 13 cents, beating analysts estimate of 12 cents.
&#8220;Our renewed focus on strengthening and simplifying our product portfolio, combined with continued progress on our process roadmap, is positioning us to better serve the needs of our customers. Dave and I are taking actions to enhance our competitive position and create shareholder value,&#8221; said Michelle Johnston Holthaus, interim co-CEO of Intel and CEO of Intel Products. 
Intel announced guidance for the 2025 fiscal-year first-quarter. It sees revenue between $11.7 billion and $12.7 billion, versus analysts estimate of $12.87 billion. Intel guided Non-GAAP earnings per share of $0, versus analysts estimate of 9 cents.
&#8220;Our&nbsp;Q1&nbsp;outlook&nbsp;reflects seasonal weakness magnified by macro uncertainties, further inventory digestion and competitive dynamics. We will remain highly focused on execution to build on our progress and unlock value,&#8221; said David Zinsner, interim co-CEO and CFO of Intel.

Phillips 66 reported operating cash flow, excluding working capital impacts, of&nbsp;$901 million in the quarter.
