United Therapeutics&lsquo; (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/uthr#NASDAQ">UTHR</a>) second-quarter 2024 earnings of $5.85 per share missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $6.33. Earnings rose 12% year over year on the back of higher product sales.
Revenues were $714.9 million, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $683.0 million. Revenues rose 20% year over year, driven by meaningful growth of all key products &mdash; Tyvaso, Orenitram, Remodulin and Unituxin.
United Therapeutics&#39; shares were down 4% in pre-market trading on Jul 31, likely due to the earnings miss.
Year to date, the stock has surged 53.5% against the industry&#39;s 2.5% decline.

<h3>Quarter in Detail</h3>
United Therapeutics markets four products for pulmonary arterial hypertension &mdash; Remodulin, Tyvaso, Adcirca and Orenitram. It also markets Unituxin for treating pediatric patients with high-risk neuroblastoma.
The company markets two versions of Tyvaso &mdash; Tyvaso dry powder inhalation (DPI) and nebulized Tyvaso. These versions are approved for PAH and pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD) indications. The DPI version is less time-consuming to administer and more mobile and convenient&nbsp;than the nebulized one. Tyvaso DPI recorded sales of $258.3 million, up 33% year over, while sales from nebulized Tyvaso were $139.9 million, up 12%.
Overall, Tyvaso sales were $398.2 million, up 25% year over year, driven by higher volumes and continued growth in commercialization utilization by PH-ILD patients. This reported figure beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $385 million and our model estimate of $362 million.
Remodulin (including Remunity Pump) sales rose 16% year over year to $147.3 million, while Orenitram sales rose 13% year over year to $107.1 million.
Unituxin sales rose 17% year over year to $51.7 million. Adcirca sales were $5.7 million, down 24%.
Research and development expenses were $139.6 million in the quarter, up 57% year over year. Selling, general and administrative expenses rose 37% to $177.6 million in the quarter.
<h3>Pipeline &amp; Other Update</h3>
United Therapeutics&#39; key phase III programs include Tyvaso in patients with various forms of chronic fibrosing interstitial lung disease (TETON studies) and oral ralinepag in PAH indication (ADVANCE OUTCOMES study).
Both the TETON 1 and TETON 2 studies are registrational late-stage studies that are parallel in design to each other. The only difference is that while the TETON 1 study is being conducted at sites located in the United States and Canada, the TETON 2 study is being conducted at sites outside these two countries. If the drug is approved in IPF indication, management expects Tyvaso sales in IPF indication to exceed the drug&#39;s sales in PAH indication.
In October 2023, the company started the phase III TETON PPF study to evaluate Tyvaso in patients with progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF).
Enrollment is currently ongoing in the TETON 1 and ADVANCE OUTCOMES studies.

United Therapeutics Q2 Earnings Lag, Sales Top Estimates

Shares of Pinterest Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PINS#NYSE">PINS</a>) tanked in early trading on Wednesday, despite the company reporting <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/07/40068727/pinterest-stock-is-facing-selling-pressure-wednesday-whats-going-on">upbeat second-quarter results</a>.
The results came amid an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">exciting earnings season</a>. Here are some key analyst takeaways.
Wedbush On Pinterest
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/58459503ee7bf6000154d075/scott-devitt">Analyst Scott Devitt</a> reiterated a Neutral rating, while reducing the price target from $46 to $37.
Although Pinterest reported healthy quarterly results, its guidance was disappointing, Devitt said in a note. "Expectations were elevated heading into results given a strong 1Q report and encouraging checks for 2Q," he added.
While the company's revenues came in around 1% higher than consensus, management projected a third-quarter year-on-year revenue growth of 16% to 18%, below consensus of 19%, the analyst stated. Investors are likely to be concerned around the sustainability of growth in the back half of 2024 and in 2025 due to tougher comps, he further said.
Goldman Sachs On Pinterest
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5845b511ee7bf6000154d07b/christine-cho">Analyst Eric Sheridan</a> maintained a Buy rating, while cutting the price target from $50 to $46.
Pinterest reported a "solid set of results" and management &#8220;painted a picture of continued steady revenue and margin trajectory,&#8221; Sheridan said. The third-quarter guidance "as stable vs. our pre-earnings modeling against a multi-year revenue growth stack," he added.
Although Pinterest's adjusted EBITDA could "fluctuate in any given quarter, we still see 2024 as a year demonstrating PINS on a pathway to compounded multi-year margin expansion," the analyst wrote.
KeyBanc Capital Markets On Pinterest
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/58f9fdc70bd991000159a4c8/justin-patterson">Analyst Justin Patterson</a> reaffirmed an Overweight rating, while lowering the price target from $45 to $43.
Pinterest reported revenue of $854 million, exceeding the consensus of $850 million, with EBITDA of $180 million coming in slightly above estimates of $179 million, Patterson said.
The third-quarter revenue guidance of $885 million to $900 million was below expectations of $912 million, "while non-GAAP opex of $485M-$500M compared to our/Street prior estimates of $512M/$495M," the analyst stated. "We view Pinterest as the latest earnings season example where expectations got a little too elevated into the print, such that results and guidance were not quite as strong as investors had hoped," he further wrote.

JPMorgan On Pinterest
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/591479b8290fa7000138e4b4/doug-anmuth">Analyst Doug Anmuth</a> reiterated a Neutral rating, while slashing the price target from $44 to $38.
Pinterest's third-quarter revenue growth guidance implies around 300 to 500 bps of deceleration from the second-quarter's 21% growth, "though it also includes ~100bps of FX headwind, ~500bps harder Y/Y comp relative to 2Q, &amp; ongoing Food &amp; Beverage softness," Anmuth wrote in a note.
Excluding currency impact and one-off items, the guidance suggests only a slight decline from the growth levels of the first half, the analyst stated. "PINS indicated that its overall ad trends were mostly stable, w/the exception of Food &amp; Beverage which has been pressured now for the past 3 quarters, and that the underlying business remains strong," he added.
Benchmark On Pinterest
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/5e3ab1ed2d37ce00019ca05b/mark-zgutowicz">Analyst Mark Zgutowicz</a> maintained a Hold rating on the stock.
While it was important for Pinterest to prove the rise in ARPUs in the first quarter was an inflection, "2Q saw a -180 bps deceleration, particularly on an easy comp," Zgutowicz said. The company is now facing tougher comps in the second half, he added.
"Management's +17% y/y midpoint revenue guide suggests further UCAN deceleration; we estimate 3Q UCAN ARPU growth of +11.6% y/y," the analyst wrote. The company's AI-driven content recommendations do not seem to be transferring to UCAN MAU growth, he further stated.
Stifel On Starbucks
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/58041885846faa000106a9ae/mark-kelley">Analyst Mark Kelley</a> maintained a Buy rating, while cutting the price target from $46 to $45.
Pinterest's quarterly results were "solid," with revenues coming in $4 million higher than the high-end of the guidance range and adjusted EBITDA beating expectations, Kelley said.
The numbers have "plenty of room" to rise over the next 18 months or so, with 3P demand continuing to ramp, engagement resonating with advertisers, and Performance+ likely to "drive incremental budgets from both big brands and SMBs over time," he added.
PINS Price Action: Shares of Pinterest were down 13.5% to $32.30 at the time of publication on Wednesday.

The Federal Reserve and Federal Open Market Committee are scheduled to announce <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/07/40042583/will-powell-hint-at-september-rate-cut-what-major-us-investment-banks-expect-from">July's interest rate decision</a> at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday. Although the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/federal-reserve/24/07/40071662/fed-shouldnt-wait-until-september-poll-finds-nearly-half-want-rate-cuts-today">expectations are for the Fed to keep rates unchanged</a>, one analyst is projecting that stock prices will surge following the announcement. CME Group's FedWatch tool, which tracks the probability of Fed decisions on interest rates, shows only a 3% chance the Fed does end up cutting rates by 25 basis points Wednesday afternoon. But <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tom-lee">Fundstrat's Tom Lee</a> said that he still expects stocks to surge higher following the announcement. The Call: Lee says that while market participants expect interest rates to come down in September, equity traders will not begin pricing that dynamic until the decision is made final. And if Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who will speak at 2:30 p.m. ET Wednesday, confirms the Fed is planning on cutting rates in September, stocks could get a boost. &#8220;The key premise is the Fed is likely to commit to a September rate cut of at least 25bp. A possibility of more than that is not necessary," Lee said in a<a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-prediction-big-rally-sp500-this-week-dovish-fed-2024-7"> note</a> released Wednesday, according to Business Insider. 
"And while bond markets have priced in 100% probability of this, equity investors likely will not be convinced until the Fed affirms this as such.&#8221;

What Are The Odds? The FedWatch tool shows a 100% chance the Fed will lower rates at its September meeting, with a .2% chance that rates are reduced by 75 basis points, a 10.1% chance that rates are reduced by 50 basis points and about a 90% chance rates are reduced by 25 basis points. 
Why It Matters: Big tech companies like Microsoft, Apple and others have held up well despite higher interest rates. Other sectors like clean energy, tracked by the iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ICLN#NASDAQ">ICLN</a>), have struggled in a high-interest rate environment, with the ETF trading down more than 8% year-to-date against the S&amp;P 500 tracking ETF&#8217;s gain of more than 16%.
