Coffee retailer Starbucks Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SBUX#NASDAQ">SBUX</a>) is expected to report year-over-year declines for revenue and earnings per share in the company's first-quarter financial results after <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings">market close Tuesday</a>.
Here's a look at the earnings estimates and key items to watch.
Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect Starbucks to report first-quarter revenue of $9.32 billion, down from $9.43 billion in last year's first quarter, according to data <a href="https://bzresearch.myclickfunnels.com/benzinga-pro-content-webinar-registration/?utm_source=BZprocontent012725&amp;t=be2bearmibe3na1">from Benzinga Pro.</a>
The company missed analyst estimates for revenue in four straight quarters and missed estimates in six of the past 10 quarters.
Analysts expect the company to report earnings per share of 67 cents, down from 90 cents in last year's first quarter. The company has missed analyst estimates for earnings per share in three of the past four quarters but beaten estimates in five of the past 10 quarters.
The company has <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/10/41638437/brian-niccol-confident-customers-will-come-back-to-starbucks-as-company-shifts-strategy-under-new-c">not shared guidance</a> for fiscal 2025 citing the CEO transition to Brian Niccol in 2024.

What Experts are Saying: Bank of America <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42985789/starbucks-shines-qsr-faces-challenges-bofas-2025-restaurant-outlook">maintained a Buy rating</a> on Starbucks with a $117 price target ahead of the company's first-quarter results.
Bank of America analysts highlighted the company's brand strength and the potential to put emphasis on productive areas under new leadership in the January investor note.
RBC Capital<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/SBUX/analyst-ratings"> reiterated an Outperform rating</a> and $115 price target ahead of the first quarter report.
Data from <a href="https://www.placer.ai/blog/coffee-fix-starbucks-and-dunkin-in-2024">Placer.ai </a>could serve as a preview of the Starbucks first-quarter same-store sales and overall revenue.
A report highlighting the comparison between Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts showed that both coffee chains had drops in foot traffic in the fourth calendar quarter of 2024. Starbucks first fiscal quarter includes the months of October, November and December.
In the fourth quarter, foot traffic at Starbucks stores were down 2.9% year-over-year, compared to a 0.7% drop for Dunkin' locations, according to the report.

The report showed Starbucks saw visitors stay slightly longer than in the past and most visits happen between the 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. time period, while Dunkin' got a larger share of foot traffic before 10 a.m. likely due to food options.
One key to watch is Starbucks increased foot traffic related to several key dates. The report showed that three days in the fourth calendar quarter saw large spikes compared to the daily foot traffic average in 2024.

New reports showed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/01/43135622/coffee-prices-soar-to-record-highs-could-starbucks-face-margin-squeeze">higher coffee future prices</a>, which could put Starbucks margins and hedging strategy in focus. The company could get asked about what it is doing to prevent further price increases in the future for its commodities and pushing increases back to its customers.
Strikes at Starbucks locations in major cities around <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/12/42666501/starbucks-faces-major-strike-on-christmas-eve-300-locations-affected-as-5000-workers-walk-out">the Christmas holiday </a>was a big topic during the quarter and the company could share the impact the strikes had and how it is looking to the future as more stores unionize.
Starbucks said<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/asset-sales/24/11/42117962/starbucks-eyes-stake-sale-in-china-amid-fierce-competition-and-falling-sales"> it was considering </a>a sale or partial sale of its Chinese segment. The company will share how this segment is performing in the financial results, but most attention will turn to if there is progress in this consideration and how it could help alleviate poor financial results for the region.
Without current fiscal guidance, investors will also be looking for commentary on the company's growth and initiatives under new CEO Niccol.
"It is clear we need to fundamentally change our strategy to win back customers. ‘Back to Starbucks' is that fundamental change," Niccol said after fourth-quarter financial results.

USA Today reports that in Florida, another seller listed an iPhone 15 Pro Max "With TikTok" for $10,000, and over 1,800 people viewed the listing in just one day. A seller in the U.K. priced an iPhone 16 at $47,000, showing that this craze isn't just happening in the U.S.

The frenzy began on January 19, 2025, when TikTok went dark due to a law requiring ByteDance, its China-based parent company, to sell its U.S. operations. Though the app became usable again after 14 hours—thanks to an executive order by<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43076609/tiktok-back-online-in-us-after-trump-vows-monday-executive-order"> President Donald Trump delaying enforcement</a>—it remained unavailable for download or updates. Users who deleted the app or got new phones found themselves out of luck.
Apple confirmed the app's removal from its App Store, stating, "If you already have [TikTok] installed on your device, it will remain on your device, but it can't be redownloaded or restored if you move to a new device."

Another shared their regret: "I thought the ban was going to last a long time, so I deleted it, only to realize it was back hours later."
While some have labeled the brief ban a political stunt, others are capitalizing on the situation. The exorbitant eBay listings highlight just how much people are willing to pay to get back on TikTok—even if it's temporary. Trump&#8217;s focus on four key areas, driven by macroeconomic considerations, included technology, tariffs, the energy sector, and immigration reform.

While new policy proposals were generally more measured than expected, which pleased markets, Edward Jones anticipates volatility as further updates are released. Here is their view on the list of reforms and which sector and stocks may be impacted by it.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Will The Energy Companies Support New Reforms?</h3>
The new administration prioritized energy reform, with Trump fulfilling his &#8220;drill, baby, drill&#8221; promise through executive actions supporting U.S. oil and gas production. These included declaring a national energy emergency to ease fossil-fuel production restrictions, expediting energy infrastructure projects, rolling back climate-change initiatives, and withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement.
However, Edward Jones&#8217; analyst Mona Mahajan observed that increasing oil and gas supply would lower energy prices, potentially putting downward pressure on revenue growth and earnings for major energy producers. &#8220;Lower energy and gas prices would, however, be a positive for containing inflation.&#8221;
The exchange-traded fund tracking the sector, iShares US Energy ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IYE#NYSE">IYE</a>), dropped 2.46% in the four sessions of the last week. <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Will Immigration Reform Increase Inflation?</h3>
The executive orders also prioritized immigration reform as key actions included declaring a national emergency, labeling drug cartels as terrorist organizations, and restricting benefits for undocumented immigrants. While mass deportations have not materialized, troop deployments have been enhanced at the border.
Investors will closely monitor any expansion of deportation activity, as this could significantly disrupt labor markets, said the note. &#8220;A smaller labor force could mean not only softer growth in the U.S., but it may also cause employers to pay higher wages to attract workers, which could lead to price increases and renewed inflationary pressure,&#8221; the note added.

Despite the threats to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, along with 10% on China, starting Feb. 1, no action has been taken. The Trump administration has directed federal agencies to evaluate U.S. trade policy and submit recommendations by April 1.
Tariffs are increasingly likely to target specific sectors and companies and serve as a negotiating leverage rather than a tool for global trade conflicts, the note said. &#8220;The administration is likely more sensitive to enacting tariffs that could increase consumer prices and be inflationary,&#8221; it added.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bets On AI To Drive Technology</h3>
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>), Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), and Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ORCL#NASDAQ">ORCL</a>) are the U.S.-listed beneficiaries of the private-sector-backed project Stargate, announced by Trump last week. He also signed an executive order to make the U.S. the global leader in artificial intelligence, directing agencies to develop policies to ensure dominance in the field.
&#8220;The investments in data centers and electricity are critical for the U.S. to maintain leadership and be a driver for AI technology and applications. The government investment in technology infrastructure, we believe, will pay dividends in the form of enhanced innovation and productivity in the future,&#8221; the note added.
The ETF tracking AI-linked companies, Invesco AI and Next Gen Software ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IGPT#NYSE">IGPT</a>), rose 0.08% in the four sessions of the previous week. While MSFT was up 3.63%, NVDA gained 1.27% and ORCL advanced 6.39%, in the same period, as per <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>.

Despite Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) dipping below the $100,000 mark on Monday, prominent cryptocurrency traders remain positioned for upside for the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/bitcoin-price-prediction">first quarter of 2025</a>.
What Happened: Widely-followed trader Smiley Capital on X <a href="https://x.com/smileycapital/status/1882817499130998910">disclosed</a> his heavy allocation to crypto since early 2023.
In a detailed post on Friday, he shared that he has shifted strategies, focusing more on trading and short-to-medium-term opportunities due to increasing market fluctuations.
Additionally, the trader rotated more into altcoins, assuming the main altcoin movie is imminent. 
He added that BTC has seen a major move from $15,000 to $108,000, but before a prolonged distribution stage he predicts a final push of 50%-75% from current prices.
