Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), through its cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), disclosed the launch of AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region, with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/b42865495/aws-launches-infrastructure-region-in-thailand" rel="noreferrer noopener">planned investment of over $5 billion</a>.
The investment will enable customers to run workloads and securely store data in Thailand with reduced latency.
The new Thailand Region comprises three Availability Zones, designed for high availability with independent power, cooling, and security, connected through ultra-low-latency networks.
AWS expects the new Thailand Region to contribute approximately $10 billion to the country&#8217;s GDP and support over 11,000 full-time-equivalent jobs annually.
These roles will span construction, maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other areas within AWS&#8217;s supply chain.
The new region underscores AWS&#8217;s long-term commitment to meeting growing cloud demand in Thailand and across Asia Pacific.
The new launch expanded the global footprint to 111 Availability Zones across 35 regions, with plans to add 15 more zones and five new regions, including Mexico, New Zealand, and Saudi Arabia.
Yesterday, the company announced plans to invest $11 billion in Georgia through AWS. This investment aims to bolster infrastructure for cloud computing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42865524/amazon-aws-will-invest-at-least-11-billion-in-georgia-to-boost-ai-and-cloud-infrastructure-we-expect-to-create-more-than-550-well-paying-jobs" rel="noreferrer noopener">and artificial intelligence technologies</a>.

Amazon Web Services Expands In Asia Pacific With $5 Billion Investment In Thailand Region

SpaceX first showcased the revamped engines of Starship,<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/08/40158736/spacex-ceo-elon-musk-showcases-starships-new-raptor-engine-with-more-thrust-and-less-mass-getting-cl"> dubbed Raptor 3</a>, in August. 
Raptor 3 does not require any heat shield as everything is regeneratively cooled. It is lighter and has more thrust and higher efficiency than Raptor 2, Musk then said.
"Truly, a work of art," Musk wrote about the engine while adding that the team at SpaceX put a "staggering amount of work" into it. "Getting close to the limit of known physics," Musk wrote about the engine in another post.
Why It Matters: However, Musk then also warned about future changes to the engine. 
With the new version, SpaceX has got the fundamental architecture of the engine right but there will still be "thousands of improvements" going forward, Musk said. He also noted that the induced mass of the new version of the engine, though better than the previous version, has a "lot of room for improvement."
The raptor engine is used exclusively for SpaceX's ambitious Starship launch vehicle aimed at taking people to the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42108681/spacex-shows-off-conceptual-version-of-starship-which-will-help-humans-land-back-on-moon-in-over-50-yrs">Moon and Mars</a>. Starship, which is in the testing and development phase, has had six test flights to date. The next and seventh flight test of the Starship is expected next week. 
For the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/space/25/01/42866518/spacexs-starship-7th-test-flight-delayed-says-elon-musk-now-expected-next-week"> upcoming flight test</a>, the launch vehicle will carry 10 Starlink simulators as payload which are similar in size and weight to the company&#8217;s next-generation Starlink satellites in a bid to demonstrate its capabilities in the satellite launch segment.
SpaceX is looking to catch the two-stage vehicle's booster back at the launch pad at Starbase with the launch tower's metallic arms like on its fifth test flight in October. However, in case of any safety concerns, the company will splash it down in the Gulf of Mexico, it said.
The spacecraft, meanwhile, is slated to be splashed down in the Indian Ocean on the upcoming test.

On Tuesday, January 7th, U.S. markets closed lower as strong economic data fueled fears of prolonged inflation, delaying Federal Reserve rate cuts. Rising job openings and services activity drove benchmark 10-year Treasury yields to 4.699%, the highest since April. Markets now expect the Fed to hold rates through 2025.
Economic data showed that the U.S. trade deficit widened to $78.2 billion in November, up from a revised $73.6 billion in October and aligning with market expectations. Imports grew by 3.4% to $351.6 billion, while exports increased by 2.7% to $273.4 billion.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors fell, led by losses in consumer discretionary, communication services, and tech stocks, while energy and health care gained.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.42% and closed at 42,528.36, the S&amp;P 500 closed lower by 1.11% at 5,909.00, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.89% to finish at 19,489.68.
