To pursue its objective, the Fund is an actively managed exchange-traded fund (ETF) that will invest in the equity securities of companies that operate in the global banking sector. Under normal circumstances, the Fund will invest at least 80 percent of its net assets, plus the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes, in securities that are part of the global banking sector and in American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) and Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs) that represent such companies in the banking sector. Grammy-winning songwriter <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/06/39281611/two-new-books-unveil-the-healing-power-of-medical-cannabis">Melissa Etheridge</a> is embroiled in a legal dispute with two former business partners from Northern California, who allege she abandoned their joint cannabis venture, leaving them in financial ruin.
What Happened: Etheridge Farms was launched in 2019 with the idea of providing cannabis products for middle-aged women. 
"They're looking to cannabis, and I want Etheridge Farms to be right there to answer what they're looking for," Etheridge said at the time.
However, by 2024, former partners Josephine and D&#8217;Angelo Roberto claimed that Etheridge and her wife withdrew their support, effectively crippling the business. The Robertos filed a legal petition on July 9, alleging abandonment and financial ruin, <a href="https://www.billboard.com/pro/melissa-etheridge-failed-cannabis-business-legal-dispute/">reported</a> Billboard.
&#8220;The Robertos trusted the Etheridges and invested their life's work into the businesses. Unfortunately, their hard work did not end in a success story, but rather betrayal and abandonment,&#8221; said the Robertos&#8217; attorney Christopher Frost.
Etheridge&#8217;s involvement in cannabis was inspired by her battle with breast cancer in the 2000s. "I came out of chemotherapy saying, I want to be an advocate for this, I believe in this as medicine so deeply," she said.

The partnership initially appeared promising until it didn't. The foursome secured the necessary licenses and a large facility in California where they intended to produce and distribute their products. The business plan foresaw the Robertos providing industry expertise and product development, while the Etheridges would use Melissa's celebrity to promote the brand and attract investors.
The Robertos say they invested all their resources into the business and that the Etheridges failed to do their part. They claim Etheridge did not promote the business as expected and eventually stopped providing financial support, including paying the facility&#8217;s rent, which led to eviction and loss their regulatory licenses.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Death Of A Son</h2>
In the midst of this conflict in May 2020, Etheridge announced that her 21-year-old son Beckett Cypher had died from causes related to opioid addiction. Months later, she launched the <a href="https://www.etheridgefoundation.org/">Etheridge Foundation</a> to advocate for and support research into new treatments for opioid addiction.
The Robertos are now seeking damages of at least $3 million compensation for financial hardship caused by the alleged abandonment.
"The Robertos have not pursued this action and are not proceeding to arbitration for fame or fortune or as a vendetta," their lawyers say. "Rather, they simply seek compensation for the suffering they have had to endure and the financial ruin they have experienced due to the Etheridges abandoning them."

According to a Digital Trends <a href="https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/southwest-cloudstrike-windows-3-1/">report</a>, Southwest Airlines planes were still operating on Friday as other peers were grounded. The surprising reason is likely the fact that Southwest has been procrastinating on software updates in recent years.
Digital Trends reports that Southwest is using Windows 3.1, an operating system from 1992 from Microsoft.
The report mentioned that some of Southwest&#8217;s systems are still running on Windows 95 and Windows 3.1, which has been a recurring issue, prompting calls for the company to upgrade to newer systems.
"It should go without saying that Southwest needs to update its system, but in this case, the ancient operating systems seem to be doing the airline some favors to avoid a complete Y2K-level apocalypse," Digital Trends writes.

SunPower Stock Attempts To Bounce Back: What's Going On?

In what could be a good tiding for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/big-banks">big banks,</a> a report on Sunday indicated that regulators are considering significantly reducing the proposed increase in capital requirements.



What Happened: The Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency are working on a plan to bring down the nearly 20% increase in mandated capital increase for the biggest U.S. banks, the Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/finance/regulation/dimon-led-bank-ceos-to-fend-off-tougher-capital-rules-b647756d">reported</a>, citing people familiar with the matter.



They &#8220;are still negotiating substantive and technical revisions, and there is no guarantee that a deal will come together. It also could be late this year before any plan is ready,&#8221; the report said.



The rumored development comes after big bank CEOs, led by JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co.&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) Jamie Dimon, lobbied with Fed governors, including Chair Jerome Powell, to alter the capital rules proposed by Michael Barr, the central bank's vice chair for banking supervision.



The bankers tried to exploit the internal disagreement and concern within the seven-member Fed board over the regulatory proposals. 



Dimon, in particular, was scathing in his attack of the proposal, the report said. Calling Barr&#8217;s proposal &#8220;flawed and poorly calibrated,&#8221; he reportedly urged other governors to speak out.



&#8220;What person, in what ivory tower thinks that that is a rational thing to do? I'd like to know what the other governors think,&#8221; he reportedly said at a conference in September. Big bank chiefs met with Powell more than a dozen times between July 2023 and March, while Barr met with them 15 times, the report said, citing the Fed&#8217;s public calendar.

Biggest Regulatory Fight: The proposed rules are among the final efforts taken by global regulators in an attempt to avert a repeat of the 2008-2009 financial crisis, the Journal said. The intent is two-fold —&nbsp;to boost the resilience of the banking system and to guard against a taxpayer-backed bailout. Additionally, the Fed is eyeing mitigation of other risks, including the potential to lose money from cyberattacks.&nbsp;



The release of the proposals in July saw one of the biggest regulatory fight in at least a decade, the report said. Big banks lobbied hard and were reportedly supported by a slew of lawmakers and others, including affordable-housing advocates. Their efforts included airing pricey television ads during National Football League games warning of dire economic consequences.&nbsp;



Goldman Sachs specifically spent millions on its own advocacy campaign. The Financial Services Forum, which represents the eight largest U.S. banks, also asked its members to chip in $2 million apiece on another ad campaign.



One area of dissent amid the negotiations is how banks accounted for the value of their trading positions and other capital-markets activities. While Powell and other Fed officials are for reducing the capital reserves tied to such activities, the other two agencies were reluctant to do so.



If the FDIC and OCC have their way, Fed officials will want to compensate with cuts elsewhere, the report said.



Capital requirements are&nbsp;regulatory standards for banks that determine how much liquid capital they must keep on hand, relative to their overall holdings.&nbsp;



The norms for banks with $100 billion or more in total consolidated assets is:



<ul>
<li>Minimum common equity tier 1 capital ratio requirement of 4.5% </li>



<li>Stress capital buffer requirement determined from the supervisory stress test results of least 2.5%&nbsp;</li>



<li>If applicable, a capital surcharge of 1% for global systemically important banks</li>
</ul>



Higher capital norms limit the ability of the bank to lend or invest and increase the cost of funds for banks. On the other hand, in the eventuality of a distressing situation, these reserves come in handy to keep them afloat.

HSBC Holdings plc&#8217;s&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HSBC#NYSE">HSBC</a>) wholly-owned subsidiary, HSBC Latin America B.V., inked a binding agreement to&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.hsbc.com/news-and-views/news/hsbc-news-archive/hsbc-agrees-to-sell-its-business-in-argentina" rel="noreferrer noopener">sell&nbsp;</a>its business in Argentina to&nbsp;Grupo Financiero Galicia&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GGAL#NASDAQ">GGAL</a>).



As per the terms, Galicia will acquire all of the bank&#8217;s Argentina business covering banking, asset management, and insurance, together with $100 million of subordinated debt for a consideration of $550 million.



HSBC anticipates receiving the purchase consideration in a combination of cash, loan notes, and Galicia&#8217;s American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), with ADRs accounting for around half of the consideration received and representing less than a 10% economic interest in Galicia.&nbsp;



The bank expects a $1.0 billion pre-tax loss upon reclassification of the business as held for sale in the first quarter of 2024.&nbsp;



Post closure, HSBC expects the recognition of $4.9 billion in historical foreign currency translation reserve losses.



HSBC reiterated the dividend payout ratio target at 50% for 2024 and continues to expect a return on average tangible&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">equity in the mid-teens for 2024</a>.



The transaction is expected to be completed within the next 12 months, subject to conditions, including regulatory approvals.&nbsp;

Last month, HSBC launched a $150 million Venture Debt offering in Singapore alongside a&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/03/37955109/whats-going-on-hsbc-shares-premarket-wednesday" rel="noreferrer noopener">$1 billion ASEAN Growth Fund</a>.



Investors can gain exposure to the stock via&nbsp;Themes Global Systemically Important Banks ETF&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GSIB#NASDAQ">GSIB</a>) and&nbsp;Avantis International Large Cap Value ETF&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVIV#NYSE">AVIV</a>).



In February, HSBC reported fourth-quarter revenue that declined 11% Y/Y to $13.021 billion as NII fell 7% Y/Y to $8.28 billion, impacted by notable&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/02/37233194/why-hsbc-shares-are-diving-premarket-wednesday" rel="noreferrer noopener">items of $(2.7) billion&nbsp;booked in the quarter.</a>

HSBC Holdings plc&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HSBC#NYSE">HSBC</a>) disclosed the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.about.hsbc.com.sg/news-and-media/hsbc-scales-up-support-for-local-new-economy-businesses" rel="noreferrer noopener">launch&nbsp;</a>of a Venture Debt offering worth $150 million in Singapore and a $1 billion ASEAN Growth Fund.



The bank aims to scale high-growth companies and digital platform businesses.



The Venture Debt capability offers companies a longer term and flexible financing solution for various funding requirements such as capital expenditure, runway extension, or working capital for up to three years in tenor.&nbsp;



This launch complements HSBC&#8217;s existing New Economy Fund of $200 million to support working capital requirements of early-stage start-ups, thereby creating comprehensive financing solutions for new economy clients across different stages of growth.



The new economy clients can access more specialized financing structures, including those involving equity warrant instruments through HSBC Venture Debt.&nbsp;



Priya Kini, Head of Commercial Banking, HSBC Singapore, said, &#8220;Singapore has a thriving ecosystem of start-ups, investors, and accelerators which HSBC is part of. A common pain point we hear from start-ups is finding the right financing partner that understands their needs and can support them throughout their growth trajectory – from access to knowledge to skills and funding to strategic partnerships and network for their global expansion.&#8221;



This month, HSBC reportedly planned to recruit about 50 more bankers in its U.S. commercial bank to lend to startup companies, mainly in the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/03/37595119/hsbcs-new-bet-reportedly-recruits-50-bankers-to-fuel-us-tech-and-healthcare-startups" rel="noreferrer noopener">technology and healthcare sectors</a>.
