Consumers' assessment of the present economy was mixed in December. Labor market sentiment improved, with 37.0% of respondents stating jobs were "plentiful," up from 33.6% in November, while those saying jobs were "hard to get" fell to 14.8% from 15.2%.
However, business conditions showed signs of deterioration. The share of consumers reporting that business conditions were "good" declined to 19.1% from 21.6%, while those describing them as "bad" increased to 16.7% from 15.3%.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Future Expectations Show Growing Pessimism</h3>
&#8220;While weaker consumer assessments of the present situation and expectations contributed to the decline, the expectations component saw the sharpest drop," Peterson added. 
The sharp drop in the Expectations Index highlights a growing sense of unease about the future. 
Only 21.7% of respondents expected better business conditions in the next six months, down from 24.7% in November. Meanwhile, the percentage anticipating worse conditions rose to 18.3% from 15.9%.
Labor market optimism also faded. The share of consumers expecting more jobs to become available dropped to 19.1% from 22.8%, while those anticipating fewer jobs increased to 21.3% from 17.9%. 
Personal income prospects mirrored this negative trend, with only 17.2% expecting their incomes to increase, down from 20.7% in November. Those expecting incomes to decline rose to 14.3% from 12.1%.
December brought a dip in stock market optimism. The percentage of consumers expecting stock prices to rise in the next year fell from a record high of 57.2% in November to 52.9%. Those anticipating a decline in stock prices increased from 21.7% to 25%.
Interest rate expectations were mixed. The share of consumers expecting rates to rise ticked up slightly to 48.5%, while those expecting rates to fall slipped to 29.3%. These shifts reflect lingering uncertainty about the Federal Reserve's monetary policy trajectory.
Concerns about tariffs also increased, with 46% of consumers expecting tariffs to raise the cost of living, while 21% believed tariffs could create more U.S. jobs.
The S&amp;P 500 index – as tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>)&nbsp;–&nbsp;was up 0.2% by the time of this writing Monday. Selvaraju noted that an earlier-generation monoclonal antibody, the anti-IgE agent Xolair (omalizumab), generated sales approaching $4 billion in 2023. Selvaraju ascribed a 30% probability of approval to BSI-045B in chronic asthma and a 20% probability of approval to this candidate in AD.
Selvaraju projected fourth-quarter revenue of $2.9 million and EPS of $(0.10).

Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) volatile trading around the $100,000 mark has left investors puzzled about its prospects for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/bitcoin-price-prediction">the next weeks</a>.
What Happened: Jim Bianco of Bianco Research highlighted this phenomenon in a <a href="https://x.com/biancoresearch/status/1870948707132473412">post</a> on X on Sunday by quoting an old Wall Street adage: "Markets will do what confuses the most people." 
Bianco believes this aptly describes Bitcoin's current behaviour.
From January to March, Bitcoin's move past $69,000 spurred widespread speculation, only for it to consolidate for six months. 
After hitting $100,000, bulls and bears alike predicted dramatic movements—but Bitcoin has stayed range-bound for the past six weeks, defying both camps.
Then, post-election, BTC surged again, this time hitting $100,000. 
Once more, the internet exploded with speculation: &#8220;FOMO is next!&#8221; &#8220;It&#8217;s a bubble, watch out,&#8221; Bianco cites the sentiment.
And yet, for the past six weeks, Bitcoin has done what almost no one predicted: nothing.
Bitcoin hovering around $100,000 for months, ensuring no one is completely right or wrong, is a scenario that frustrates both bulls and bears. Analysts suggest that patience may be key as traders navigate this period of uncertainty.

What's Next: Over the past week, Bitcoin's price dropped 12.8%, pushing key performance indicators lower.
IntoTheBlock data shows Bitcoin's large transaction volume decreased by 20.6% to $34 billion, while daily active addresses dipped by 0.02%. 
Transactions greater than $100,000 also dropped from 8,435 to 7,495 in a single day. Exchange netflows declined by 246.9%.
Simply Bitcoin highlighted the significance of $2.94 billion in shorts currently acting as a barrier to Bitcoin breaking past $105,000.

Bitcoin Price Decisively Back Below $100,000: What Is Going On?

Pfizer hosted a discussion with sell-side analysts to provide an update on one of the vaccine pipeline items &#8211; a second-generation Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) vaccine effort in Phase 2.
Goldman Sachs analyst Chris Shibutani maintained a Buy rating on Pfizer, Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PFE#NYSE">PFE</a>) with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/PFE/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $33</a>.
Shibutani recalled that Pfizer had reported negative results from a Phase 3 study for a first-generation asset in March 2022, where the primary endpoint was unmet.

Still, results did include signals from secondary endpoints that suggested reduced disease severity.
Pfizer has since been exploring updated formulations (reducing the 3-dose regimen to 2 doses), including a version in Phase 2. Immunogenicity data are anticipated in 2025, with potential for advancement into Phase 3 by the end of 2025.
For a potential Phase 3 study, Shibutani noted the objective would be to discern the potential to reduce the severity of a C. diff infection (CDI) instead of aiming to reduce the risk and prevention of disease.
Pfizer estimates ~500k infections annually in the U.S., and no vaccine options currently available. Acknowledging that there is an unmet need The analyst acknowledged that there is an unmet need and said the data thus far suggests a potential basis for a path forward for the program in the context of comments from R&amp;D leadership during the discussion Shibutani hosted with investors.
The emphasis on the forward will be on programs with the most significant potential for economic returns. The analyst expects that investor enthusiasm will likely remain relatively subdued, especially in the context of uncertainties deriving from health policy dynamics relating to vaccines, that are an overhang to sentiment.
Shibutani does not currently include revenue estimates for a C. diff vaccine in his model and looks to monitor data updates and decisions regarding plans for this program to guide his forecasts in the future.
Separately, the analyst flagged Pfizer management&#8217;s mention of the fourth generation 25-valent pneumococcal vaccine (PCV), which management affirms continues to progress in Phase 2.
Shibutani recalled that Pfizer had previously commented that the immunogenicity data from Phase 1 were encouraging, as highlighted by the improved immunogenicity observed for serotype 3.
Pfizer is currently in a Phase 2 proof-of-concept study for its second-generation Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) vaccine, PF-07831694. This vaccine targets C. diff toxins A and B, which cause Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).&nbsp;&nbsp;
Their goal for the second generation is to build off the 1st generation&#8217;s efficacy and duration by developing a more potent, more durable formulation, allowing for a 2-dose regiment (instead of 3-dose), resulting in higher and faster series completion.
After evaluating adjuvants in formulation for their next-generation candidates, Pfizer noted they can increase the strength or magnitude of the immune response, potentially resulting in lower doses.
Pfizer advanced 1 of the three updated 2nd-generation candidates to Phase 2 based on Phase 1/2 safety and immunogenicity data.
The Phase 2 trial endpoints will evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of the 2-dose regimen. Trial data is expected in 2025, with a potential Phase 3 start in late 2025, pending positive results.
Pfizer in Phase 2 is the furthest along of the C. diff vaccine assets. Idorsia Pharmaceuticals initiated Phase 1 for their competing C. diff asset in July. Vaxxilon and Matrivax Research &amp; Development Corporation both have preclinical assets. GSK Plc&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GSK#NYSE">GSK</a>) CDI vaccine completed a Phase 1 trial in 2022 but is no longer listed as a pipeline asset.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Pfizer&nbsp;stock has dropped over 11.5% year-to-date. Investors can gain exposure to the stock through SPDR S&amp;P 500 (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>).
Price Action: PFE stock is up 0.82% at $26.58 at the last check on Monday.
