Analysts are sharing their <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/24/11/42119020/alphabet-bleeds-over-120-billion-in-market-value-eyes-worst-day-in-10-months-after-doj-demands-google-chrome-sale">reactions as well. </a>

Pitz described the sweeping remedies proposed by the DOJ as a "kitchen sink moment.&#8221; Pitz noted that the DOJ's proposed remedies extend past Google's search distribution partnerships with Apple and Samsung and included the company's AI search-based investments. 
Anmuth echoed similar sentiments regarding the "very comprehensive" set of remedies proposed by the DOJ. He said parts of the remedies are "more punitive than expected" and listed those around consumer choice limitations and the syndication of search data and ads as examples. 
The DOJ's proposal should represent the worst-case scenario for Google, reminded Anmuth. He expects Google's proposed final remedies to be much more modest.&nbsp;
"Ultimately, we believe the judge's final decision next summer will be more balanced … and will likely have greater consideration around the potential negative impact to users," the JPMorgan analyst wrote.&nbsp;
Sheridan said the firm does not take a view on a potential outcome of the case. He noted, however, that leadership at the US DOJ will change in January with the incoming Trump administration which adds an additional variable to the potential outcomes of the trial. 
The analyst also pointed to recent comments from President-elect Donald Trump expressing skepticism on a potential break-up of Google.&nbsp;
"If you do that, are you going to destroy the company? What you can do without breaking it up is make sure it&#8217;s more fair,&#8221; Trump said in October, per Reuters.&nbsp;

"Congress has taken steps to move away from the eradication policy," Schiller explains during the interview. He cites examples like the federal allowance of recreational cannabis sales in Washington, D.C., to show that federal priorities have evolved.
The lawsuit also addresses the practical challenges faced by cannabis businesses operating under the shadow of federal prohibition. "The financial consequences imposed by the federal government's continued overhang of illegality has consequences," Schiller says. He highlights issues such as excessive taxation under IRS Code 280E, limited access to banking and loans, and the reliance on cash-based operations due to federal banking restrictions.

If successful, the lawsuit could remove significant barriers for cannabis businesses, including the tax penalties imposed by 280E. "Everyone in this industry knows the taxation is discriminatory," Schiller notes, referring to how cannabis businesses are taxed on revenue rather than profit.
The case could also open the door to retroactive tax refunds, potentially worth billions, and pave the way for broader financial reforms. Schiller acknowledges that these changes could have transformative effects on the industry, leveling the playing field for businesses operating within state-legal frameworks.

Oral arguments in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit are scheduled for December 5, 2024. Schiller explains that the court could either uphold the government's motion to dismiss or allow the case to proceed. If the plaintiffs are unsuccessful, the next step would be petitioning the Supreme Court to hear the case, although Schiller acknowledges that the Court takes on a limited number of cases.
"They're very selective," Schiller says of the Supreme Court. "They hear a very small single-digit percentage of the cases that they take on." However, Schiller believes the case could have appeal for some justices, particularly those like Justice Thomas, who have previously critiqued federal cannabis policy. &#8220;We also believe that Justice Gorsuch, who's a well-known author of federalist principles, would be interested in a case like this,&#8221; he adds.
Schiller emphasizes that a favorable ruling could fundamentally alter how the federal government interacts with state-regulated cannabis markets, potentially setting a precedent for other industries navigating federal-state conflicts.

Institutional investment in the cryptocurrency space is poised for a massive influx, with hundreds of billions of dollars expected to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/11/42138947/bitcoin-zeroes-in-on-100000-but-this-indicator-signals-one-more-brief-correction">enter the market</a> in the coming years, according to Devin Ryan, managing director at JMP Securities.
What Happened: In an <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2024/11/22/crypto-boom-drives-investment-opportunities-with-coinbase-and-robinhood-leading-the-charge.html">interview</a> with CNBC, Ryan emphasized that the evolving regulatory landscape and the increasing acceptance of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are key catalysts for this transformative growth.
"We have research out saying $220 billion of assets are coming into Bitcoin ETFs in the next three years," Ryan said. "If there is a strategic reserve, that could be hundreds of billions of dollars of assets into Bitcoin."
Ryan pointed out that trading volumes for companies like Coinbase Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COIN#NASDAQ">COIN</a>) and Robinhood (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HOOD#NASDAQ">HOOD</a>) have surged since the U.S. presidential election. 
Coinbase volumes, for instance, have tripled, reflecting growing interest in the sector. 
"This activity unlocks a lot of innovation that's been held back," Ryan said, noting the potential for significant growth in payments, remittances, stablecoins, and Web3 applications.
Sarah Kunst, managing director at Cleo Capital, echoed Ryan's optimism, noting that institutional money has been waiting on the sidelines for regulatory clarity.

Kunst highlighted the new U.S. administration&#8217;s potentially more favorable stance toward mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;A) as a driver for ecosystem growth. 
"I think there are people who have not yet gotten in the game who want to get in the game," she said. "This is really crypto's third act."
Kunst identified key players in the space, including crypto exchanges and infrastructure firms, as potential acquisition targets for larger financial institutions. 
"Names like FalconX, the crypto prime brokerage, and Gemini, the crypto marketplace, are likely to attract attention from big acquirers," she stated.
While Bitcoin CRYPTO: BTC) remains the centerpiece of institutional interest, Kunst sees a broadening investment focus. "Meme coins are dangerous—you can make a lot, but you can lose your shirt," she warned. 
Instead, she pointed to stablecoins and cryptocurrency ETFs as safer options, especially for institutions unable to hold crypto directly.
Ryan reinforced this outlook, emphasizing the importance of capital flows. 
"Follow the flows, and the flows are still coming—we're in the early days," he said. 
Beyond Bitcoin ETFs, Ryan expects tens of billions of dollars to flow into other crypto tokens as regulatory uncertainty diminishes, spurring innovation and further investment in the space.

Instead of closely monitoring his bank balance like many other wealthy individuals, Shaq measures wealth differently. Shaq's motivation comes from seeing his mom's sacrifices and ensuring she's always comfortable. "As long as my mother doesn't have to feel like she felt when we were young, that's my definition of being rich," he said.
Shaq's big heart doesn't stop with his mom. He shared a recent story about being at Walmart, where he spotted a mom with a tall son and three young daughters. The mom was picking out items for her kids and Shaq approached her, asking how much she planned to spend. After learning she was buying only what she could afford, he gave her $5,000 to get everything she needed for her family. Moments like these show what matters most to Shaq – using his money to make life better for others.
Shaq also wants his kids to learn these values. He wants them to understand that just because he has a lot of money doesn't mean they can rely on it without effort.
