Banking giant&nbsp;JPMorgan&nbsp;forecasts significant investments in Solana (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/sol/usd">SOL</a>) and XRP (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) if they receive approval. The report, shared on Jan. 13, suggests these ETFs could outperform Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) ETFs in their initial six months.
What Happened: Investors are optimistic about&nbsp;the approval of the first&nbsp;spot Solana and XRP ETFs, especially with a potentially more innovation-friendly regulatory environment anticipated in the U.S. following President-elect&nbsp;Donald Trump&#8216;s inauguration on January 20. JPMorgan estimates Solana could attract $3 billion to $6 billion, while XRP might gather $4 billion to $8 billion in net new assets, Cointelegraph <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/solana-xrp-etfs-billion-dollar-investment-jpmorgan">reported</a> on Tuesday. 
This prediction aligns with the first anniversary of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, which nearly reached&nbsp;$110 billion in cumulative holdings&nbsp;by Jan. 2. The introduction of new crypto-based ETFs could drive altcoins to unprecedented highs, similar to Bitcoin&#8217;s surge after its ETF debut.
However, JPMorgan cautions that altcoin demand remains volatile, making the performance of future crypto-based ETFs uncertain. The U.S.&nbsp;Securities and Exchange Commission is&nbsp;expected to make preliminary decisions&nbsp;on Solana ETF applications by the end of January, with major asset managers like VanEck and Grayscale awaiting outcomes.
Why It Matters: The potential approval of Solana and XRP ETFs could represent a major milestone for the cryptocurrency market. A prediction made 31 years ago by the Chinese economist Justin Lin Yifu which claimed that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/china">China&#8217;s</a> economy will surpass that of the U.S., is about to materialize over the next five to 10 years, he said.
What Happened: Former chief economist and senior vice-president at World Bank, Lin Yifu&#8217;s 1994 prediction was reaffirmed by him while speaking at the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong on Monday, <a href="https://www.scmp.com/economy/global-economy/article/3294732/can-china-top-us-economically-2030-economist-reaffirms-bold-1994-prediction?module=top_story&amp;pgtype=homepagehttps://www.scmp.com/economy/global-economy/article/3294732/can-china-top-us-economically-2030-economist-reaffirms-bold-1994-prediction?module=top_story&amp;pgtype=homepage">reported </a>the South China Morning Post.
He believes that U.S. economic growth has decelerated along with the sluggish growth in China's annual gross domestic product.
According to him, if market exchange rates remain unchanged his prediction will come true in a few years.
This event took place on Monday just a few hours before Joe Biden&#8216;s farewell speech on Monday.
Biden said, "When I took office, you all recall, and the experts believed … it was inevitable that China's economy would surpass ours. According to many predictions that would happen by the year 2030 or shortly thereafter."
"Now, according to the latest predictions, on China's current course, they will never surpass us,&#8221; he added.
However, Lin Yifu in his speech said that China's annual economic growth is still notably higher than that of the U.S.

Why It Matters: In 1994, Lin Yifu penned his book &#8216;The China Miracle,&#8217; where he had made this prediction. Back then, China&#8217;s economic growth was soaring, exceeding 13%. This peaked at 14.2% in 2007 before gradually decelerating. Since 2011 the growth dipped to 9.6% and the Chinese economy has consistently seen single-digit expansion.
During his speech Lin Yifu expressed unwavering confidence in China&#8217;s ability to significantly increase its per capita GDP, aiming to reach half of the United States&#8217; level by 2049.
This ambitious goal, if achieved, would translate into China&#8217;s total GDP surpassing that of the U.S. by a factor of two, solidifying the nation&#8217;s position as a global economic powerhouse and moving it closer to its aspiration of becoming a stronger, more modernized country.
China's National Bureau of Statistics is set to release the country's 2024 GDP data on Friday. President Xi Jinping closed out the year by saying China was on track to hit its goal of "around 5%".

Producer prices rose less than anticipated in December, offering a potential reprieve for the Federal Reserve as it aims to bring inflation under control <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">without derailing economic growth.</a>
The data, released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday, showed the Producer Price Index rising 3.3% year-over-year, up from November's 3% but below forecasts of a 3.4% increase. On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.2%, decelerating from November's 0.4% and falling short of the 0.3% analysts had expected.
Driving the December rise in prices for final demand goods, gasoline prices surged 9.7%. Residential electric power, meats, motor vehicles, gas fuels and fresh fruits and melons also saw price increases. On the other hand, prices for fresh and dry vegetables dropped sharply by 14.7%, while carbon steel scrap and residual fuels also declined.
Core PPI, which excludes volatile food and energy costs, rose 3.5% annually in December, holding steady from November and coming in below expectations of 3.8%. On a monthly basis, core producer inflation flattened, decelerating from the prior month&#8217;s 0.2%, and below forecasts of a 0.3% rise. 
The weaker-than-expected figures mark a departure from November's data, which showed a surprise acceleration in producer inflation. 
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Why Producer Inflation Data Matters</h3>
The PPI is a key gauge of upstream price movements, often serving as a leading indicator for shifts in consumer inflation. Stronger producer price growth can signal relief for businesses and consumers, particularly if companies face less pressure to pass along higher input costs.
The moderation in monthly core PPI is especially notable, as it indicates that price pressures are less widespread across underlying components. 
The timing of this report is critical, as it precedes Wednesday's release of the Consumer Price Index. 
Economists expect the December CPI to rise from 2.7% to 2.9% annually, while core inflation is forecast to hold steady at 3.3%. The softer PPI data may temper concerns of a significant upside surprise in consumer inflation, offering hope that the Federal Reserve&#8217;s 2% target remains achievable.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>
The cooler-than-expected PPI report provided some relief to markets, which have been grappling with uncertainty over the Fed's policy direction.
According to CME Group's FedWatch tool, expectations for rate cuts in 2025 ticked slightly higher following the report. 
Markets are now pricing in rising likelihoods of one 25-basis-point cut by the end of the summer.
Treasury yields slightly fell in response to the data. The two-year yield, which is particularly sensitive to Fed policy expectations, dropped 2 basis points to 4.37%. The dollar weakened modestly, with a key index tracking the greenback holding steady during the session.
Stock futures were higher in premarket trading. Contracts on the S&amp;P 500 edged up 0.5%, while Nasdaq 100 futures rallied 0.9%.
On Monday, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) rose 0.1%, touching levels last seen on Nov. 5, 2024, the day before the U.S. presidential election results were announced.
