Isodiol International Inc. (CSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/ISOL#CSE">ISOL</a>) (OTCQB:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/ISOLF#OTCQB">ISOLF</a>) launched in 2009 as a cannabinoid researcher and grew to become a globally-known bulk seller of CBD products.

It embarked on a new goal one year ago, with the introduction of Andrew Alvis as president.

Alvis was brought on board to oversee&nbsp;a new mission for Isodiol &mdash; conquering the CBD consumer markets.

Alvis, CEO Marcos Agramont and former NFL player Marvin Washington, who was brought on as a strategic partner, spoke with Benzinga&nbsp;about Isodiol&rsquo;s new goals.

<h3>A Direct-To-Consumer Focus</h3>

Isodiol started off as a supplier of nano-liquid suspensions, isolates and hemp oil.&nbsp;After developing the first formulations, it created oils, topicals, capsules, pain patches and other products that were used to showcase all the versatile functions that were achievable with the bulk ingredients they had developed.

In 2017, ISO International &mdash; as the company was originally named &mdash; was acquired by cannabis distributor&nbsp;Laguna Blends Inc. Laguna changed its name to Isodiol, began trading under the&nbsp;stock symbol&nbsp;&lsquo;ISOL&rsquo;&nbsp;and launched&nbsp;the newly-acquired Isodiol into the public markets.

Since then, the company remained focused on the best path towards profitability. That direction was crystallized with the appointment of Alvis as president in October 2019. He&nbsp;brought a vast experience in leadership with a background in finance and global expansion.

&ldquo;I got brought on about a year ago, exactly,&quot; Alvis said.&nbsp;&quot;And a lot of our focus has been restructuring the company and the brands accordingly. We kicked off at the beginning of the year prior to the pandemic, a more of a direct-to-consumer channel focus.&quot;

This approach ended up becoming the perfect strategy to navigate the current COVID-19 pandemic. Isodiol was already planning a pivot to a&nbsp;direct-to-consumer strategy based on e-commerce sales.&nbsp;

The decision was motivated by a clear shift in consumer behavior to e-commerce and online shopping. Today, Isodiol handles all nation-wide deliveries in-house.

Bulk sales make up&nbsp;about 20% of revenue; white label and wholesale make up about 40%; and the last 40% comes from direct-to-consumer operations.

<h3>Marvin Washington and&nbsp;IsoSport</h3>

Isodiol&nbsp;welcomed former New York Jet defensive end&nbsp;and cannabis entrepreneur Marvin Washington to the leadership team.

The team approached Washington&nbsp;with the idea of creating a sports-oriented CBD brand aimed at everyday consumers.

Agramont said Washington&rsquo;s collaboration in the creation of the IsoSport brand was crucial, given his personal experience using and recommending CBD to fellow athletes.

IsoSport was launched in 2016 out of a joint venture between Washington and&nbsp;Isodiol. When the company went public, Washington became vice president of development for IsoSport and a board member of Isodiol International.

The goal of the brand was to use CBD to address the untapped market of professional athletes and weekend warriors.

&ldquo;To this day, we&#39;re the only [CBD] sports brand out there that is specifically targeting athletes, and the indications that come with working out and having that lifestyle, from soreness to recovery to energy,&rdquo; says Washington.

<h3>Not Just Talk About CBD</h3>

Isodiol&rsquo;s main differentiators are found in the different formulations behind each brand, the executives said.

&ldquo;At one point in time, we had to make that pivot and not just talk about CBD,&rdquo; says Agramont. &ldquo;We started focusing on the everyday functions and dysfunctions that consumers were facing.&rdquo;

This meant exploring which&nbsp;natural medicines could be combined with cannabis in order to carry added value to the products directed at each specific function like sleep, anxiety or sports performance.

&ldquo;There&#39;s an actual formulaic response to these products versus just adding CBD to some of the labels that were already out there,&rdquo; adds Alvis.

Isodiol&rsquo;s products are concocted with adaptogenic herbs and other naturally-sourced materials to provide more accurate effects.

Agramont says that the future of the industry encapsulates a re-validation of natural herbs and other adaptogenic products, in combination with CBD.

As a second differentiator, Isodiol is also looking to expand into improving product functionality by researching&nbsp;pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics.

This means analyzing and understanding exactly what happens to cannabinoids once they enter the body and how each person&#39;s genetic profile affects their response to these compounds.

&ldquo;Working with some of the doctors and the pharmacokinetic labs to produce this valuable data that we can actually share with the consumers, as well as share with the retailers out there, so that they know what they&#39;re getting,&rdquo;&nbsp;says Agramont.

Last week, the hemp industry was abuzz with the news that the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) would move Epidiolex, a CBD-based drug derived from cannabis, from a Schedule I substance to a <a href="https://www.hempbizjournal.com/dea-reschedules-epidiolex-schedule-v/">Schedule V substance</a>. The scheduling does not explicitly pertain to CBD, but it does affect drugs approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which contain CBD.

Although the scheduling is limited in scope, there is confusion about what it means for hemp specifically, and cannabis in general. Many have taken the news as a positive signal for the hemp market, and investors are already lining up to get a piece of the emerging market. In this summary, the Hemp Business Journal looks at some leading public hemp companies to provide a rundown about their latest happenings.

<h3 class="p1">CW Hemp Inc.</h3>

Based in Colorado and produced by the Stanley Brothers, CW Hemp Inc. (CSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/CWEB#CSE">CWEB</a>) is among the best-known public hemp companies in the United States. The company, originally known as Stanley Brothers Inc., first gained national attention in 2013 after developing a high CBD strain of cannabis known as Charlotte&#39;s Web (which helped treat epileptic seizures for a young girl named Charlotte Figi). Since then, the company has positioned itself as a manufacturer and supplier of hemp-derived CBD oil, and has rebranded itself as CW Hemp. Most recently, the company found itself in the spotlight again after it <a href="https://www.hempbizjournal.com/charlottes-web-raises-100-mill/">quietly raised $100 million</a> in one of the largest initial public offerings in hemp history. CW Hemp&#39;s stock is currently trading at around CAD15.01 (USD11.74) per share.

<h2 class="p1">Isodiol International Inc.</h2>

Isodiol International Inc. (CSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/ISOL#CSE">ISOL</a>) is one of the few public hemp companies having a global presence with operations in the United States, Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and China. Isodiol specializes in CBD-based pharmaceuticals and wellness products. In addition to adding former NFL player Marvin Washington to its board of directors, one of the company&#39;s subsidiaries has recently gained <a href="https://isodiol.com/isodiol-news/isodiol-receives-government-approval-for-pure-natural-cbd-as-an-active-pharmaceutical-ingredient/">approval</a> from the U.K.&#39;s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for the use of CBD as an active pharmaceutical Ingredient in finished pharmaceutical products. Isodiol is currently trading at around CAD3.70 (USD2.89) per share, and has a market cap of approximately CAD146.82 million (USD114.79 million).

<h3 class="p1">CV Sciences</h3>

Like Isodiol, CV Sciences (OTCMKTS: CVSI) is a manufacturer of CBD-based pharmaceuticals and wellness products. The company currently has one pharmaceutical drug in development, CVSI-007, a chewing gum containing synthetic CBD and nicotine aimed at helping cigarette smokers break their tobacco addiction. Recently, CV Sciences attracted some unwanted attention after a noted short seller at Citron Research, Andrew Left, tweeted an accusation that the company was committing securities fraud. Though little came of the allegation, CV Sciences&#39; stock tanked, falling from USD9.20 to USD2.76 in seven days. Nevertheless, CV Sciences earlier this month earned the distinction of being the first hemp company to receive <a href="https://www.hempbizjournal.com/cv-sciences-earns-gras-status/">Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status</a> in accordance with FDA safety guidelines. CV Sciences stock has recovered somewhat, and is currently trading at around USD4.83 per share, with a market cap of $445.36 million.

<h3 class="p1">Aurora Cannabis Inc.</h3>

Though technically not a hemp company, Aurora Cannabis Inc. (OTCMKTS: ACBFF) has been making some significant moves in the hemp CBD market. First, Aurora announced that it <a href="https://www.hempbizjournal.com/aurora-cannabis-acquires-europes-largest/">acquired</a> Europe&#39;s largest producer of certified organic hemp and hemp products, Agropro UAB (Agropro), and its sister company Borela UAB. Less than a week later, Aurora was reportedly in talks with the <a href="https://www.hempbizjournal.com/coca-cola-rumored-cbd-beverages/">Coca-Cola company</a> to develop a line of CBD-infused beverages. For most outside observers this was no coincidence, and if the negotiations with Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/KO#NYSE">KO</a>) prove fruitful, Aurora could very quickly become one of the hemp industry&#39;s leading companies. Still riding high off of the Coca-Cola news, Aurora&#39;s stock is trading at around USD9.60.

<h3>A Merger</h3>

ABcann Global Corp (CVE: ABCN)(OTC:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/ABCCF#OTC">ABCCF</a>) <a href="https://www.newcannabisventures.com/consolidation-in-canada-continues-with-abcann-buying-bc-based-canna-farms-for-133-million/">announced </a>its $133 million purchase of BC-based Canna Farms, the first licensed producer in British Columbia.

&ldquo;This is a transformational acquisition, and key benefits include increased production capacity, an expanded product offering, operational efficiencies, and a more robust platform to accelerate our growth,&rdquo; ABcann CEO Barry Fishman said in a press release. &ldquo;We will maximize operational and financial synergies, so that the combined company will be greater than the sum of its parts.&rdquo;

Together, the entities will boast annual production capacity of 57,000 kilograms, more than 15,000 medical cannabis patients, and access to international markets like Germany and Australia.

ABcann expects immediate accretion considering Canna Farms&rsquo; positive operating cash flow.

<h3>Stock Split &amp; Acquisition</h3>

Canopy Growth Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/CGC#NYSE">CGC</a>) shareholders <a href="https://www.newcannabisventures.com/canopy-growth-gets-green-light-on-stock-split-and-acquisition/">voted </a>to acquire all yet-unowned interest in Canopy Health and Canopy Animal Health Inc. Management will seek approval from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Thursday in order to complete the transaction Friday.

Investors also authorized a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 stock split to be exercised at the discretion of the board.

<h3>Earnings</h3>

Isodiol International Inc (CSE:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/ISOL#CSE">ISOL</a>)(OTC:<a class="ticker" href="/stock/ISOLD#OTC">ISOLD</a>) reported annual revenue of C$19 million, gross profit of C$8.8 million and net losses of C$36 million for the fiscal year ending March 31. Last year, the firm saw just C$355,959 in revenue and C$126,715 in profit but also lost far less &mdash; just C$4 million.

&ldquo;Although the Company experienced tremendous growth for its Fiscal Year 2018, we strongly believe that CBD is still in its infancy stage, and we are just beginning to understand its benefits for the human body,&rdquo; CEO Marcos Agramont <a href="https://www.greenmarketreport.com/isodiol-annual-sales-jump-on-acquisitions/">said</a>.

The firm has made several acquisitions since the start of the new fiscal year to hasten additional growth.
